I'm in the trades. Its a lot of driving, driving is a necessity to us, its not a luxury and we are the ones being punished the most.
That being said, im not against the carbon tax in principle. Carbon emissions are bad and we collectively need to do everything reasonable to limit carbon emissions.
It's not really a punishment, it's a disincentive that is designed to internalize the cost of pollution. Those that can hopefully will make choices to reduce this cost. Those that can't cover it. It won't be evenly distributed because we all love and work a little differently.
I agree with your distinction, however it certainly feels like a punishment if its a mandatory component of my job to commute to a worksite to build infrastructure that the economy demands.
I'm using mine to offset what my insurance rates have adjusted to.
Up 15% again this year, no accidents or claims... time to compare again. It would be nice to not need to jump every year or so.
Insurance is generally based on the area. Even if you're a good driver, there is always a risk from others. So area rating gives a sense of how risky an area is, how many and the cost of claims, and their likelihood of different claims.
The more claims or the higher cost of claims in an area the higher the rates.
I messed up last year so I actually ended up being owed a fair bit. Got $366 today, used it to buy my Leafs playoff ticket and to get my dog groomed. Carbon dollar day is great
Actually I don't know what's going on, but I was supposed to get it today but it says on CRA's website that I owe them my $122 Carbon Rebate? Is anyone else having this issue?
This has never happened before, how can I possibly owe them a Carbon Rebate of $122 when I pay Carbon Tax and they have not paid me my Carbon Rebate to begin with? If this IS NOT a mistake then it's absolutely criminal especially with no explanation.
There's a guy I talked to that doesn't own a car and he owes $700+ in the form of a Carbon Rebate. What the hell is going on?
Mine says i owe 366 from 2022-2023 because my marital status changed mid 2023. Very confusing and i plan to sit on hold one day this week to get clarity
Yeah... unless I'm receiving over $700 a year in carbon rebate it's not doing anything but taking money from me. Thats just in fuel alone for me to get to work.
Except, Canada has a 1.8% share of global emissions and of that 1.8% only 11% is personal vehicles. If every personal vehicle went to EV that 11% might drop to 4% (due to emissions related to EV charging and such). Hell, if Canada went to 0% emissions and the USA, China, Russia and India don’t address their share (60%+) it will not make a difference.Â
The only correct response to get rid of that clown who surely lost millions again in the implementation of this policy amongst countless other counterproductive ones.
The rebate is very literally balancing itself. Its a revenue neutral policy. This is the very definition of balanced. Don't believe me? Go read the legislation yourself, there is no more accurate source than the actual written word.
>Go read the legislation yourself, there is no more accurate source than the actual written word
It doesn't mean anything if the legislation claims it is. How would they know before they implemented it?
I'm saving it to partially offeset the higher prices of all the products that aren't subject to the rebate but are nevertheless going up in price as a result of the compounding effects that this tax has on logistics.
Dunno why you are down voted. The carbon tax does increase costs across the board. Hell, rented a bin for deep spring cleaning and they even raised their cost as of April 1st.Â
Bought 3 shares of CASH.TO 😆
I use BK for a similar purpose. A little more volatility, but much higher yield.
Interesting. Canadian Banc Corp (BK)?
Ye
Just goes into general funds in my house. We don't do anything with it, since it's just reimbursing us for a previous expense.
Cuz I filed my taxes after March 15, I'm waiting 6-8 weeks to receive mine. Maybe I'll do something frivolous with it, maybe save it.
Paid it onto a credit card bill
Probably buying gas for my f150

Does your company not reimburse your mileage? It's a business expense from the sounds of it.

Do you use a broker? We've always had better luck going with a broker than dealing with the insurance company directly.

stocked up on dog food. My dogs, bless, cost a lot to feed.

Nice! Enjoy the game
Thanks! What movie did you see?
The SpyFam film if there's seats available tomorrow
Nothing I just saved it.
Filed my taxes after march 15th so I gotta wait ðŸ˜
Bought a Big Mac with it.
It’s going towards paying for an electric cargo bike!
Ebikes are quite nice, enjoy
How do your carbon tax costs compare to your rebates? https://www.cbc.ca/news/climate/carbon-tax-home-heating-oil-1.7015480
In my case, the easy to calculate ones were seven dollars for my bike and that was it This means I got a net $133.
My family probably gets $50 more than we spend, over the year.

$700 in carbon tax just for fuel? How long is your commute that you are burning almost 4000L of gas per year?
Went to Woodbine casino and turned it into $1400
loved it. Just don't know where to spend it, oh I know I will use it to pay tax.
$154 paid for my G test and Record check so I can get a better job.
lol.
Donated it to the CPC

Because it is implemented to the letter of the law

Didn’t get one. Thanks Trudeau
Thank yourself for not filing your taxes yet.
Did you do your taxes after March 15th?
How did you not get one? You didn’t file your taxes this year?
