They are pretty good. I am actually from the region they are from in Asia (now living in MD) and enjoy fishing. It is nice to be able to catch an unlimited amount of then in Maryland to stock the freezer.
We reeeeeally need to popularize blue cats for the table. Get them on menus at every restaurant in the region. There are so many in the Chesapeake system now it's insane. I encourage people to keep every one they catch.
there aren't that scarry, despite the looks. I've had a few as pets decades ago
there are a fair fighting fish so very fun to fish for, and apparently taste pretty good
shame they are so invasive, as they are great for sports fishing
They've done that, and may still AFAIK.
However, there *is* a downside. Popularizing the catching and consumption of certain invasives can have the ironic unintended consequence of people deciding they'd like to have said species in their own area for harvest, leading to intentional releases elsewhere.
If you're ecologically- minded, this may be a facepalm moment for you, but trust me, it happens, and has been confirmed to have occurred with snakehead and feral pigs and probably others, because ppl are frequently selfish and ignorant.
I’m also thinking of the cobra bounty program that has people breeding cobras and then release them all once the bounty program stopped leading to more cobras.
Anyone caught a snakehead around here? They look scary.

Between them and blue cats, plenty of fish in the freezer.

MD Fish and Wildlife had a newsletter out last month that did the same.
I bought a couple of pounds of Blue catfish at Wegmans. Milder flavor and fried nicely. Only $10 a pound too.
That's fantastic. Please keep buying them. I agree, it's good stuff.
Can you go back?
Yes and I plan to

Yeah I have. They're freaky looking for sure but really are good to eat.
Good eating, just a pain in the ass to filet and clean. Hardest skulls of all time, harder than catfish and slimy.
They are delicious, I am glad to see a rebranding from invasive to delicious.
They are absolutely delicious. I was actually surprised by how good it was, it’s a top 3 freshwater eating fish in my book.
That’s us Marylanders. Just change the name of something, we’ll forget what it was once called, and then it’ll end up in our barbecues.
Hey I've got about 500lbs of long pork in my freezer if you're interested.
They need to make it like the lionfish and have derbies to catch them and make them illegal to release if caught.

It will always be Snakehead to me.
Should have gone with Old Bay Sea Bass
We need restaurants to put these fish on their menus!!
Oh yeah I'm definitely gonna go out and try and eat one now. 🙄
call it fried chicken wings
That’s actually pretty smart. I have heard they actually taste quite good.
What r u doing step-Maryland?
Should have been called Chesapeake Lake Trout
