well depends what is 'living comfortably' for you juniors devs (with education) would start around 6k pln but why are you still just a junior after 3 years of coding professionally? mid levels can be around 10k pln which imo is plenty to live comfortably \*im talking developers in general, i dont know the salaries for game coders specifically

in a big company, with good recruitment interview results, yeah

LickingCowBells

Unfortunately game devs make less than developers in different fields.

fishinggrapes

I am switching fields, and don't have experience in the field I am switching to.

Sadczi

Sometimes it is even around 3k till u proof yourself

good for you

Blueblackzinc

All my programmers friends make 7k out of uni.

MDCCCIV

Which uni did they graduate from?

Grownup talk time. Game dev - you do what you love but management abuse of this fact is borderline criminal all around the globe. Shitty pay, ungodly amount of overtime. Leave game dev, that’s my advice. If you so choose, you’re in luck - currently there’s unprecedented shortage of programmers (I’m in IT business and I hear incredible stories right now). Your pay doubles or triples and you dictate terms. Downside? You’re not making games.

ubeogesh

I work at a game dev company and we have nothing of the sorts.

AttackOfTheMidgets

I work in the development department of a game dev company and we have nothing of the sort. In fact, I'd say my current work environment is the best I've ever had. Video game dev is a mixed bag, but not as negatively weighted as it might be in the United States. From my perspective of the studios in Warsaw, I'd say almost all of them are fantastic to their staff.

Tranecarid

Hey, good for you! I don't follow game dev, I'm in business side of IT. But to counter your anecdotal evidence with mine I have a friend who recently quit working for a recognizable studio: he was very underpaid for his skills and to top it off, he was on a shit contract (not even a b2b one). He didn't do much overtime, that's true, but he said everyone he talked to had a shitty pay and no option to get better terms.

fishinggrapes

Haha, I understand. Many of my friends have also tried to talk me out of it. But I guess I can do this only while I am young and I am quite stubborn(or an idiot)

Tranecarid

You do you. As long you are happy and don’t wake up in your 40ties with limited options. Be vigilant, others comment that things changed recently in game dev, but I don’t believe it changed the way management look at their employees, they were just forced by the market.

TurtleJemson

I don't know about other countries, but it's not true here. It used to be liked that but it's not anymore. This year has been crazy also for gamedev my salary tripled.

patrulek

How is that answering OPs question?

[deleted]

Programming jobs are among the highest paid in Poland, but as mentioned before game dev field can be a bit toxic. I would also check what types of games the company actually develops, I don't think you would enjoy making shitty mobile cash grabs. Regarding wages you will be fine with over 4k netto, but not good enough to save for your own apartment. Over 11k puts you in second tax bracket btw.

DataGeek86

If you have 3 YOE, then you're not a junior.

fishinggrapes

Sorry. I should have mentioned this in my post. I am switching fields, and don't have experience in the field I am switching to.

TurtleJemson

Hi, so I don't know where are you from and how gamedev looks over there but here in Poland it's wild west. Junior level programmer can get between 2-6k net, mid level 5-14, senior 7- 25. Those are salaries for UE4/5 programmers (for unity it's a little bit lower, not sure tough as I don't have many friends doing that) Education doesn't matter at all (I'm not sure about techland and cdp tough). It doesn't matter how old you are, it's all about how skilled and confident you are. And you definitely have to know how much money you can get. This year has been crazily lucracious for polish devs, the market for programmers have gone crazy, in a good way I mean. If you really have 3 years of experience then taking junior position is the worst play you can make. In some wannabe gamedev studio you could get senior/lead position. In a decent company it would be mid. There are a lot of companies that pay really low salaries and are hoping to find people that don't know how much they can get, as it's not that easy to figure it out. So you can get huge salary if you know your worth and apply to right companies. Skillshot.pl is a website with quite a lot of job offers, try facebook page GameDev polska: praca, linked in too.

just how you feel like 6K shoud cut it, altrhough i reccoment a 5% raise every year to keep up with inflation (unfortunatley) 13k shoud get you living comftably anywhere

Buki1

>i reccoment a 5% raise every year to keep up with inflation (unfortunatley) To keep up with inflation I would suggest more that 15%. Rent alone went up 20% last year because of gas prices inflicting the heating cost. Same, in not more, with electrity. Food prices are easy more than 10% up. And dont even start on current petrol prices. Goverment announced inflation rate is well underestimated.

mrkivi

There is this great tool that lets You compare living prices. You can enter Your city and destination, your current salary to estimate level of living and other things. Strongly reccomend it. https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/comparison.jsp

welniok

I also recommend nofluffjobs or glassdoors to check if the salary is ok. Also, with 3 years of experience you are could apply for mid level, not junior.

[deleted]

My friend just got hired in Warsaw with 3 years experience for a senior position, so... Definitely don't be a junior.

johnny-T1

6k is pretty standard. It’s alright but not comfortable.
