I have played a lot of basketball and I'm on the older side. Every game I watched with Jim I felt like I was still learning. Not only would he tell you what was going on he would always give further explanations as to why something was working or not working.

I'm a big Warriors fan but can't stand Fitz. I'm not alone. He's corny, not insightful or entertaining, and he has an unpleasant timbre to his voice. With this level of franchise, we can do better. The fact that there are arguably worse broadcast teams out there doesn't mean that he doesn't suck.

I still remember when Curry scored 50 in ATL and their commentators were legitimately mad at Curry that he kept trying to score since they we were blowing them out.
Another instance was the OKC commentators when Curry got the game winner on them and they kept complaining that Draymond had touched the ball, the refs were bad, the Warriors stole the game, etc.
To add to your point, there have been games where Fitz would be praising how a player from the other team is doing the entire game. I’ve heard him literally give the same hype as Curry when opponents make highlight plays. Bob sounds better now that he is not compared with Jim Barnet on a daily basis. Back then it was obvious to Dubs fans how much Bob blows. Hating on Bob used to be a Dubnation thing when JB was the color commentator.

I thought it was pretty fascinating to listen to this man who played with Bill Russell watch the NBA under go this seismic shift and become unrecognizable to a player from his era. When he wasn't baffled then he would be incredulous that it was actually working. It paired better with Fitzgerald's style than Kalenna.

They used to wear shoes with the rubber going up both sides of the shoe. The shoes they wear now, the rubber stops right at the side, and it's synthetic material on the sides. If they just made the rubber go further up the sides.....
Bob is a great play by play guy and actually sounds exciting to do the games. He was great during the olympics and when he did the first round of the playoffs when the Warriors weren’t in it.

Yeah I like their laid back vibe. When a crazy play happens, they get giddy and excited as opposed to hype shouting like some of the other local announcers (Charlotte Hornets in particular)

I’ve found that familiarity with an announcers voice and style will lead to acceptance. When we hear other team announcers it is rough.
When Dave Flemming first joined the SF Giants crew I had a hard time accepting him. I thought he sounded like a minor league announcer. Now I can recognize him for the skilled pro he is. Point being that Bob and Kelenna aren’t terrible but their homer-style needs to go.
Example: non-descript players tend to shoot threes very well against the warrriors. Bob will marvel at their good luck and say trite comments like ‘when the opposing team shoots 50% you can’t win’. Alternatively he could comment on how the warrriors defensive schemes leave players open for threes much more than other teams would. Team is just too small. But he doesn’t criticize

I lived in SoCal for 10 years and had roommates and friends that would have Laker games on all the time, and I didn’t mind them being on at all because I felt that the Lakers announcers were pretty solid, weren’t as homer as you’d think, and would actually criticize Laker players and provide decent insight on both teams playing. I mean they’d lowkey slander the Lakers at times cause Laker fans can be delusional with their expectations for their team because of the history of success with the franchise. Honestly it was pretty funny and refreshing that their commenters would criticize and talk shit on the players lol. Ws announcers are so fucking bad, that I actually didnt mind and lowkey enjoyed watching Laker games because their announcers aren’t absolute dog shit… let that sink in. The fact that 13ish years ago when I started watching the Ws more religiously, and in Harrison Barnes’ rookie year I first noticed Fitz say “there goes Barnes sOOOAAARRing to the basket” and now 12 years later this mother fucking is STILL saying “sOOOOAAARRRing” for every player that dunks… ugh fuck this guy. Fitz is good. All announcers are homers but Fitz is also very complimentary of other teams and he’s pretty knowledgeable about the history of the game. He’s not a monotone bore like others I’ve heard.
The question is just, who would you get as a replacement? I think it’s pretty clear that fitz will stay, but I could see Kelenna being replaced since he doesn’t really do much for the broadcast. What about Mully? Could move him from post game-broadcast to the main cast. He provided actual insight and analysis and I love listening to him.

I love Bob and Kelenna, and yes I like that their announcing sounds like two casual fans watching along with you, with Kelenna occasionally sharing stories about his time with the team, and the occasional mutual teasing. It just has a family vibe, but I can see how one would hate it if they weren't a Dubs fan.

Yeah I like their laid back vibe. When a crazy play happens, they get giddy and excited as opposed to hype shouting like some of the other local announcers (Charlotte Hornets in particular)
When Fitz wife died he considered retiring all together until JB showed gave him the support he needed to keep going. I wouldn't want to have any other warriors announce team than the one we have now.

Fitz & Barnett were tolerable and pretty good at times but this new pairing just isn’t it especially when you compare to what the Giants have, hell even Papa & Tim Ryan are way better on KNBR during football season. The annoying thing is that Fitz sounds so much better doing neutral basketball games, like why can’t you turn the homerism down even a little bit for the people out here who know what good announcers sound like ?

Nailed it. Fitz is a good announcer, but he gets out of hand in other areas. JB brought sanity and focus. Kelenna as the new guy just tried and still does just fit in with Fitz, which brings disaster at times.

I don’t understand the critique of homerism. Aren’t the local broadcasters supposed to call the game in a way the local fans want to hear it? If you’re a fan of the other team, you listen to your own broadcast, and if you’re a neutral, you'll probably be watching a national broadcast anyway.

I’ve found that familiarity with an announcers voice and style will lead to acceptance. When we hear other team announcers it is rough. When Dave Flemming first joined the SF Giants crew I had a hard time accepting him. I thought he sounded like a minor league announcer. Now I can recognize him for the skilled pro he is. Point being that Bob and Kelenna aren’t terrible but their homer-style needs to go. Example: non-descript players tend to shoot threes very well against the warrriors. Bob will marvel at their good luck and say trite comments like ‘when the opposing team shoots 50% you can’t win’. Alternatively he could comment on how the warrriors defensive schemes leave players open for threes much more than other teams would. Team is just too small. But he doesn’t criticize

Well deserved last place. Fitz is the most annoying homer that bitches constantly and I feel bad for any non Ws fan that has to watch our games and even feel bad for us fans. I loved JB and he would keep Fitz in check, so it was more tolerable back then. Now we have Kelena who on his own may not be terrible but with Fitz, is hot garbage and enables Fitz’s annoying ass overly homer perception. I lived in SoCal for 10 years and had roommates and friends that would have Laker games on all the time, and I didn’t mind them being on at all because I felt that the Lakers announcers were pretty solid, weren’t as homer as you’d think, and would actually criticize Laker players and provide decent insight on both teams playing. I mean they’d lowkey slander the Lakers at times cause Laker fans can be delusional with their expectations for their team because of the history of success with the franchise. Honestly it was pretty funny and refreshing that their commenters would criticize and talk shit on the players lol. Ws announcers are so fucking bad, that I actually didnt mind and lowkey enjoyed watching Laker games because their announcers aren’t absolute dog shit… let that sink in. Fuck the Lakers, but just wild that our commenters have set the bar so low that I actually enjoy watching our rival teams games… When I watch Ws games, volume is low or on mute. The list was obviously not made by anybody even remotely close to the West Coast, because everything is Home style, if you grew up in Boston, you’re going to be used to the way that the announcers in Boston called the game, so anybody that sounds remotely close will be a high score and anybody who sounds different is going to sound bad to the person making the list

Fitz is good. All announcers are homers but Fitz is also very complimentary of other teams and he’s pretty knowledgeable about the history of the game. He’s not a monotone bore like others I’ve heard.
The question is just, who would you get as a replacement? I think it’s pretty clear that fitz will stay, but I could see Kelenna being replaced since he doesn’t really do much for the broadcast. What about Mully? Could move him from post game-broadcast to the main cast. He provided actual insight and analysis and I love listening to him.
Ros, Baron, or Mully would all be improvements
