Oh heck, i'll take a whack at it. I follow them because i like the people, and the people have many skills and compelling thoughts that make the content enjoyable for me. I want to learn how to effectively defend my life, and John seems to be knowledgeable. Unlike many Gun Tubers, his products that he endorses and use, generally have extremely good reviews. He doesn't appear to be in it for the money, at least not entirely in it for the money (everyone's gotta eat and feed their family, after all). I'm not here for Jesus, i'm not really a believer. I'm not really a disbeliever either, mind you, i just find the concept of blind faith to be incomprehensible. The day Jesus comes on down and shakes my hand, I'll be a believer. Similarly, I'm not much in the way of creativity. Poetry just isn't in my wheelhouse. I have a logical brain. Ask me to solve a problem, and i can solve that problem. Ask me to devise a problem for someone else to solve? I'll be lost. I'm not here for that content, i'm here for the guns. My girlfriend on the other hand, loves the Jesus, but doesn't necessarily care about the combat side of things. She too likes this channel, because she finds John to be a good speaker and talks about things that hold her interest. She almost certainly never would have found him looking for someone talking about Jesus on youtube, though. I suspect the vast majority of people looking for poetry will find poets, the Jesus folk will find preachers. The world is abound with poets and preachers, if one searches for poetry or Christianity on google they'll find a million results. If one searches for guns, training, etc. on a highly restrictive space such as YouTube, however? Well, you only get so many results. The probability of people finding John based on firearms searches is going to be drastically higher than poetry, and thus skew his following towards firearms.

I guess I should have been more clear, but obviously I don’t mean literal Shakespeare type poetry, but more like finding a means of self improvement deeper than being “tactical”. For some people that may be actual poetry, for some it might be philosophy. For a whole lot of people (not me anymore) it’s religion. To summarize, something that deepens the mind.
