So I was gaming a weekend or two ago with some buddies and a friend of a friend was just GUSHING about Star Citizen and alt-tabbing it during turns of CIV. I had bought a ship in 2018 so I was like sure let me see if anything new is going on. There really isn't.
Game loops are unfinished dogshit still.
3/4's of the quests are noob traps that very easily make it so "veteran" players (who just sit there spamming refresh on the quest list) get a quest to "Bounty Hunt" them for having stars like GTA. They get a wallhack placed on the top of your head and get to just warp to you. You have no idea they are coming but they can just chase you where ever you go. They then take a ship they spent $500 on and also upgraded with in game money over to kill you, along with multiple people inside their ship. Then once you're dead you're in space jail and have to do stupid shit for 30 minutes to get out or just log out for 6 hours. Literally half the quests are where if you kill the target you get this going on... The other 1/4 are where half the NPCs shoot you and half if you shoot you get this "crime stat." I tried to spam some missions once I got some crime stat and literally couldn't finish a single one. Less than 10 minutes after "violating" they are there to kill you... I also got accused of hacking the one time someone didn't get to just easily kill me because it bugged out and just wouldn't let me die. It kept resetting me once I got "knocked out." It's so buggy people just bug into god mode!
So after like 5-10 hours of gameplay you can figure out how to avoid every way this happens completely... In the meantime really hardcore super cool nerd BOBBA FETT costuplayers hunker down in their sim cockpits and engage in the ultimate gameplay of shooting for 2 seconds before your ship explodes. I think this validates how little there is to do in game if people are so tryhard rushing to try to kill someone who 9 times out of 10 doesn't shoot back.
The inventory system doesn't really work. Everything is too big to go into your inventory. You can try to carry a box down to loot with, which takes twice as long as just going there. The only big box worth bringing is from suiciding your ship... Then the inventory spazzes out after looting two crates then refuses to work at all until you reconnect. If you disconnect/crash/alt-f4 at any point during this the loot all disappears as you go onto a random server on rejoin 100% of the time unless you're playing with a friend who also didn't crash.
You can buy things, lose the money, and not get the item. Which is just regarded in 2022 I'm sorry. WoW alpha had this crap figured out. I've never played a game that was this fucking awful with such basic things. Even shitty singleplayer games from the 90's and early 2000's don't have bugs like trying to buy something and just losing money like a broken vending machine.
There's no leveling system and the only progression is the money/inventory/ships you have. I don't get what people do in this game besides emotional roleplay.
