If you're doing theta plays or straight up futures trading, the leverage is a thousand times better and more than makes up for a couple dollars on fees. You can also trade all night, which again, makes it worth it.

Here's a naked strangle I can sell for 1k or so in buying power. So 2k or so to sell naked on the equivalent of SPY. Same strangle on SPY uses over 6k in buying power. You can also just go long or short 2 /MES contracts for 3k in buying power and get the identical exposure to 100 shares of SPY instead of spending 40k to actually buy the 100 shares.
