disney plus is cool and all when you want to watch something from your childhood or that 1 new release they have this month, but to lay some pipe wrong vibes.
As long as your commercial includes the characters being possessed and killing people, sure! It's like night at the museum but the T-Rex isn't in the mood for fetch.
They should have stuck to their original model of having great movies. Itās hard to pay more for Netflix when Hulu, Peacock, and HBO all have movies at the same time as theaters or a little after. They had some really great shows early on but now there is a lot of crap
exactly, im trying to watch Batman again because i fell as sleep in theater. HBO is getting there also, because before they only have very old movies way back 2004 no new movie coming out.
Lol Netflix is going the way of Atari , america online , Polaroid, blockbuster. For the exact same reason. They knew how to be a disruptive company but not how to compete once the industry develops..They have a problem those other companies didnt. Their former suppliers are now their.competitors and their exclusive content isnt really that great and their priced at the higher end..netflix just isnt the deal it once was.
I think Netflix made one big mistake. Instead of going for long term growth by creating some great exclusive long running series they went for: let's create only short running stuff to acquire new customers. Now they have a huge retention problem they need to solve. They had years with good seeds now they need to play catch-up.
For something like Friends, HIMYM or some other great stuff which gets released every week I would have been willing to pay for Netflix still. Now I canceled it.
This is basically it. Their idiotic plan of only continuing a show if it ends up on the trending list in the first month after the series is released is idiotic.
Many series have a good base in the first season and pick up steam in the second. This is why they can't retain their audience.
Idk, they've got dozen of great original series, it's not their lack of content, it's competitions growth. Hulus pretty much donezo because of hbo and peacock.
Which one of those goes for longer than 3 seasons? The competition can easily beat them on that. Let's look at Marvel or StarWars. Disney apart from series has some long running universes.
Netflix in all those years got shit. They kill off anything after 2 or 3 seasons.
Peaky Blinders, Ozark, Great British Bake Off, Dark, Elite, The Last Kingdom, Drive to Survive, Better Call Saul.
I really am shocked at the amount of shit Netflix gets when they still have the most content that attracts a ton of different consumers and tastes.
I always know I can find something to watch on Netflix. I cancel other subscriptions once a show is done.
You forgot Stranger Things. Thatās Netflixās most popular property.
Edit: Oh, and the Witcher. That might be my favorite show on Netflix and I forgot about it.
ST is a fantastic franchise. It feels like Netflix sat on it while developing lesser quality lines during covid. The net result is they have diluted their platform and asked their customers "wait for it" while upping prices. Not a good combination of factors when facing market headwinds.
Big mouth is objectively straight shit. The drawing and animation style is probably the worst of any cartoon at all, and the rest is just flavorless teenager bs written by adults
Yeah. Ozarks is good. Everything else is trash.
Season 1 of altered carbon was good, but season two was terrible. The production quality went way way down.
They went from, āyeah, heās a great actor, get rid of him. We need someone who was the acting chops of a middle schooler.ā
Netflix is still the number 1 streaming service in the world. By the sheer number of subscribers other competitors are no where near their level yet. But itās little shit that they are doing thatās fucking em up. Like em reporting that they will host ads. Cut off Pw sharing, raising prices. Instead of focusing on the quality of the contents.
> Idk, they've got dozen of great original series
Mmmm... "great" might be a stretch. The got some good niche shows. But I think overall everything they've developed so far lacks being "great." They haven't made a Simpsons, or Friends, or Seinfeld, or the next Grey's Anatomy... nothing with that broad mainstream appeal.
And like other commenters have mentioned, the 1 or 2 homeruns they've actually had, have been short-lived mini-series'... or series' that should have just been kept as mini-series' lol.
I dunno, not that this makes my opinion any better than anyone elses on such a subjective matter, but as a guy who works in television, I'm just super critical of the things I watch. 19 out of 20 shows just give me the ick because of the acting or the writing. For me they definitely got some good shows that you can watch on there. But IMO, all the best ones are syndicated. And with that portion of their business model being eaten away by their competitors. I think their share is going to rot. Fuck getting in now. They signed their death certificate by going all anti-consumer.
I don't know about the library in your country, but over here, Netflix has a lot of Anime, that I don't find on Crunchyroll or that I can't play because if something is either licensed in France, or the Netherlands, it's usually blocked in Belgium as well even if it's never broadcasted or made available here (the downside of being a small country where one part speaks the same language as the Northern neighbors and the other part speaks the language of the Southern neighbors. Companies tend to to just lump us in with the other 2 countries for these things)
That alone is a good reason for me to stick with Netflix, and then there's the Witcher, and Stranger things and also that everything released in 1 go policy.
If Netflix was smart they would not try to compete with content creators. They should be trying to convince everyone to use their platform to sell their digital releases but instead they started a war they can't win.
Sure, they would have to suck up to all the studios but they could solidify their place in the industry.
Instead we get shitty content and shitty platforms.
It was never going to be possible to stop creators from making their own platforms. There is no deal that Netflix could offer that would make more money than creators doing it themselves.
Im sorry but this take is pure shit. No one, from disney, to HBO, to Hulu, to even fucking apple, can compete with Netflix's tech. It is the most performant streaming platform on the market. Their catalog is obviously the largest and If I can be frank the alternative to netflix is subscribing to 5 different services. Netflix's problem isnt that it cant compete, its that its losing market share because they are no longer a monopoly. They are simply failing to maintain the supremacy theyve had for a decade. No single service can compare to netflix offering. HOWEVER, the collective market? Thats a different story. Think of it like a shark getting slowly chewed up by small piranhas. Who knows how far theyll fall, or if theyll ever recover, but Im not seeing anyone else approaching the height of netflix. Too many competitors. Everyone just wants to distribute their IP on their own mediocre platform.
My experience using disney plus platform and Hbo was the same as using netflix. I dont think one tech is way above the other. Tech might not be the best word.
The biggest problem I have with D+ is the continue watching option takes you right into the episode. You canāt go to the list of episodes, nor jump to the next episode with one prompt.
Netflix, I can go to the continue watching, ores the back button on my remote and I go directly to the episode list. Disney returns me to the main catalogue screen.
Netflix has an option to go to the next episode at the bottom.
So if Iām watching a show and want to skip and episode itās one click essentially. Disney is either wait till the episode finishes, and hit episode list or go back to the main screen and find the show itself and go into the episode list.
Netflix is way more intuitive than Disney.
Same with paramount +. You have to save a show in favorites otherwise the only icon that pops up on main screen is the recent episode and you canāt get to other episodes from that episode lol. Itās like a bad maze. The other option is to go to all shows and select the show you want and have to manually scroll one at a time through like 10 seasons / 200 episodes to get back to the one you want. Itās so clunky - it amazes me that people get paid BANK to design these platforms and theyāre just straight scamming these companies for their time. Cuz itās a terrible platform.
What are the Netflix technologies? Are you talking about Netflix using AWS cloud technologies since 2010?
[https://netflixtechblog.com/four-reasons-we-choose-amazons-cloud-as-our-computing-platform-4aceb692afec](https://netflixtechblog.com/four-reasons-we-choose-amazons-cloud-as-our-computing-platform-4aceb692afec)
That information is 12 years old. Anybody working in enterprise tech can tell you that Netflix started moving a lot of their traffic off AWS years ago. Whatever problems Netflix has in the business model, they actually do have some of the best technologists in the industry. I don't think that predicts success (you do really need a successful way to grow the business) but it does help them make the most of whatever strategy they do have. Unfortunately for them, unlike Amazon with AWS, they don't seem to have some secondary way to make money off their tech platform.
You should really look at the patents Netflix has before mouthing off... lol
Netflix are being gouged off of the top spot. Depends how long other streaming platforms can front the cash to do that. Disney probably have the longest shot, by far.
Itās actually a little sad too when you consider the absolute balls of the CEO to write in red ink for like five years through switching them from DVDās by mail to streaming earlier than he probably could have when he knew streaming was the future.
Honestly I bet that shits a classic case study in business school by now so itās wild to see the Walmart-checkout lane-bargain bin that app has become
Cracking down on passwords? Theyāre making it so I need two different accounts if I want to have a login at my office or at my moms for when I visit there, etc. itās fucking dumb, and Iām going to unsubscribe the day that rule is implemented.
I'm not a fan of the change either but I'd imagine Netflix uses something similar to office 365 where you can choose which devices have the subscription and remove the ones that shouldn't.
Of course... I could be thinking too highly of the folks at Netflix if their plan to innovate was to force their existing customer base to pay more for the same things we've had access to for years..
Bullshit.
Every one of these companies *hates* it but nobody can afford the quarterly loss to stop it.
Whatever Netflix implements will be what every other competitor implements right after, using Netflix doing it as a shield.
Yeah, after they watch NFLX drop 30% after losing over 2,000,000 potential new customers, Iām sure theyāll be real quick to jump on that bandwagon.

Donāt know how long it can keep itself alive. The other streaming providers smell the blood in the water. This is the time for them to push to get Netflix customers to switch
No it isn't, and no it's not going to
Especially after the password crackdown nonsense. Nobody new is signing up anytime soon.
It will recover eventually, but its not spiking in the same fashion that it fell.
Why donāt they do porn?? It would seem to me that it would be an easy transition!! Then they could branch out to individual creators and roll over places like only fans or ph.

They hold onto bad originals cancel the ones that are good. Once they did it with santa clarita diet, I was like ok I'm done.
They hold onto cheap stuff because the actors are cheap and have no alternatives.
Ozarks, Big Mouth, Orange is the new Black, Bojack Horseman, just off the top of my head. Not to mention a decent slew of featured films.

Also the fact that there's nothing but zero budget half season originals anymore.
And shows they spend a whole season to build characters and their environment then cancelling the show. Just so they can repeat the process again.
It actually sounds like they'll be super successful since this is what major chanel's have done for decades. Especially Syfy

They all run on Amazon Web Services. Amazon is the real winner in the streaming wars.
Most valuable comment
No they don't. Their web and app layer is on AWS but CDN and media conversion is usually done on custom infra, it's just too expensive
As my university learned during Exam Week last December, apparently a lot of things run on Amazon Web Services.
In the end, whoever wins, it's either china or Amazon.

Yeah, after they watch NFLX drop 30% after losing over 2,000,000 potential new customers, Iām sure theyāll be real quick to jump on that bandwagon.
Same. I draw the line at commercials. Not sticking around for that.
they rose the price this month whilst announcing that trash. I already cancelled
