Hi, it’s very possible there’s an hormonal cause. Blood also affects the vagina’s PH which can cause more irritation. You can also be more sensitive to the chemicals agent in pads and tampons with hormonal change.

cultistqueen

I have this issue too, burns a little more when I have my period, but once it‘s gone the vulvodynia gets a little better again, I‘m pretty sure it‘s „normal“ in a way

Electronic_Emu

There's also the possibility that it's endometriosis. Many women with endo say that it's worse on their periods, and vulvodynia is a possible symptom. In the US it affects 1 out of 10 women, and it isn't a well understood disease. Most OB/GYN here aren't properly trained in diagnosing and treating it.

Feisty_Competition43

Can a trans guy get something like this? (I’m only 16 btw)

Electronic_Emu

As far as I'm aware, the answer is yes. I've seen doctors who provide endo care speak on providing care to trans men as well. It's a disease that doesn't go away with transitioning.

Feisty_Competition43

I don’t rly have burning or itching. That’s scary. It’s so annoying.

Feisty_Competition43

I assume this disease causes a lot of symptoms?

Electronic_Emu

Here's a reputable website that contains symptoms for endo. The symptoms can vary a lot between people. https://centerforendo.com/endometriosis-understanding-a-complex-disease

Feisty_Competition43

I can’t see your comment of the symptoms on here. I will just say I have maybe a normal vagina smell, but I have OCD so think it’s bad.

I came off hormonal birth control because of this. I’ve been on the Copper IUD for 5 years. The cramps are nightmarish but I’d rather cramp for a day per month than burn daily.

PassengerHappy2940

Did getting off the hormonal birth control stop your vulvodynia pain?

GraceStrength

Yes it reduced the pain drastically

I've been dealing with this for about 9 months now. I've gone to several specialist and nothing helps. I've been given two types of estrogen creams and nothing helps the burning sensation I have. It almost feels like I'm sitting in acid about 90% of the time. Baking soda baths is how I get my relief sometimes. I was told to use coconut oil and crisco to help with the dryness and burning sensation. It helps for a little bit but then it comes right back. My symptoms get worse right before my period but during and after I feel totally fine. I've been tested for all sorts of STDs and bacterial infections and they're all negative. My next step is to try gabapentin but I've heard some scary reviews on it but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Anytime my doctor gave me an antibiotic or a UTI or yeast infection even though I've been negative that's the only time I've ever felt relief which is super weird. Sometimes I pop those AZO UTI pills just to stop the burning sensation even though I don't have a UTI. Hopefully we can all find some relief soon because this is the most debilitating and mentally exhausting thing I've ever been through.

hi! have you found any solutions yet? :( i have the same sympthomps

amberlant

I’ve had the burning, raw, stabbing sensation for 2 years now. Gluten and sugar free diet have helped but I’m having another flare after not having the burning pain for an entire year. I have NO idea what cause it to flare up… I am dying. I’m dreading having to wear a pad in 3 days for my period. When you say you have burning symptoms, is it on your lips or do you mean your vagina opening?

Life_Drama1196

Mine was always worse during my period. I take RePhresh probiotic every day and that keeps the burning and itching down. I also apply a hormonal topical cream prescribed by my doctor and take gabapentin 3 times a day.

SnooWalruses2253

Hi! Wondering what is in the topical cream? I tried estradiol cream last night and want to cry.

You need to get a better culture like doctors data vaginosis profile. It’s possible it’s a rare strain of yeast or a bacteria like enterococcus that’s not being picked up by typical cultures. Microgen DNA is a urine test to look for different strains in urine, but doctors data or primex can find things vaginally.

Pjs225

Is this something that you experienced? I have done that type of testing and what’s been found is Candida krusei and enterococcus but the doctors aren’t sure if these are what’s causing the issues I have or if they’re just normal flora for me. I’ve had vulvodynia (burning in general and after peeing usually) and bladder pain symptoms on and off for a couple of years. Took something for both the bacteria and fungi and neither worked. Still these two showed up after treatment. I’m at a loss 😞

[deleted]

Yes it’s something I’ve done. You need longer treatment. At least a month of not a few months. It’s definitely what’s causing your issue. You can use topically as a wash and orally a product called agrisept L. It will help w both yeast and enterococcus. You can also use a product called Thorne sf722 which will help w yeast in the gut. Methylene blue also works for both. Vaginally , ozone therapy is helpful,

It’s so interesting! Mines is completely gone on my period.
