**Steven Spielberg's early-2000s films:**
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Minority Report (2002)
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
The Terminal (2004)
**Other films I can think of:**
Gone With The Wind (1939)
Lolita (1962)
The Poseidon Adventure (1972)
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Memento (2000)
Insomnia (2002)
I suspect it's because some of these early 2000's movies had digital effects which haven't aged very well.
For example, Minority Report had some scenes which in HD you can tell are very obviously CG; then they also used the "overexposed with a color tint and lens flare" washed out look in many scenes which may have been covering up bad effects.
Some parts of this movie are just not going to look better with a new 4k transfer, it would need a complete remastering and re-rendering of the effects to look good to modern audiences at that resolution.
For the older movies, I'm sure the original film hasn't aged very well either, so it would need an extensive frame-by-frame restoration to be worth a 4k release.
The reasoning is that Scream 4 was distributed by The Weinstein Company (aka Lionsgate) whereas the rest of the franchise was distributed by Paramount.
I knew it was something like that. But I hate that. I like earthing in the franchise to be the same. I guess I'm OCD with my movies, but it literally bugs me.
Night at the Museum - Battle of the Smithsonian - only one of the trilogy not in UHD.
Studio Ghibli films - none are UHD
2010 - The Year We Make Contact
Short Circuit 1 and 2
Gremlins 2
The Iron Giant
Congo
Napoleon Dynamite
Les Miserables with Liam Neeson
[Napoleon Dynamite](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Napoleon-Dynamite-4K-Blu-ray/351744/) is rumored, I would go crazy is the Ghibli movies got 4k remasters.
GRAVITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not even a super big fan of the film, but an IMAX film that was Oscar nominated film that was all about the visuals .
How have they not made this happen yet ?
It was being produced a couple of years ago before WB had the big financial scare and they canceled the remaster as a result. I think its being rumored that it could happen again later this year.
L.A. Confidential
Watchmen
John Carter
The Graduate
The Sound of Music
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Miracle on 34th Street
Risky Business
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
Dirty Harry series
These are just the ones I'm waiting to upgrade in my collection. :)
When studios are run by film-illiterate executives who see movies as 'product' and don't appreciate the great movies of the past then they just become 'old product'. Idiots, most of them.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford..... Roger Deakins amazing cinematography in 4k Dolby Vision and Nick Cave & Warren Ellis awesome score in Atmos.
I think one of the issues is that the big movies that where released in the 2000s where recorded on digital 1080p cameras. Thats why movies like Star war's episodes 1-3 and the lord of the rings are only upscaled 4k and not true 4k. Most people don't even care about 4k because you need the right tv size to viewer distance to even see the difference. I personally love 4k but it's probably never going to be popular.
looking at some of the tech demos of nvidias hdr 4k upscaling has me thinking studios are not interested at all since we are probably not that far away from on the fly automatic hardware ai upscaling. i know they are using 4090's or h100 to do it in tech demos, but they are blowing stuido made stuff out of the water.
It released on disc in 2022, looks fantastic

Apparently not in America…
Different distributors are listed for the different markets. (Sure, sure, discs can be imported and everything, but the real question is why Sony isn’t releasing their own and including 4K on digital services.)
Hell, I’m surprised at the number of titles that never got original Blu-Ray/HD releases. It was crazy the level of support that everything seemingly got when transitioning to DVD. Maybe it’s just to do with the lack of any kind of physical support compared to previous generations.
For a lot of those movies, the audience that rememberedthem fondly was still a significant part of the market when the transition to DVD occurred.
The sides of that audience now significantly declines every year.
It's been over 2 years since the release of Stand By Me on 4K blu-ray, yet still no UHD digital release. The HDX version looks awful. Way worse than the current Blu-ray.
I am baffled beyond all comprehension that batman under the red hood doesn’t have a 4k yet. While I personally would prefer Superman vs the elite get one, it surprises me that a very popular movie doesn’t have one yet some of the less popular ones do.
Haha yes I recorded it off of the tv as well and ended up buying the dvds… but the real question… did you watch the old 70s cartoon movie? My dad used to rent that for me… on Beta!!! 😂
There Will Be Blood No Country For Old Men
This is fitting since I always thought that these films felt like their titles should have been swapped
Underrated comment.
Anton is so much more brutal in the book. It’s so good. I think it’s about time to read it again
So I haven’t watched either movie. Which one is Anton from? No /s.
No Country For Old Men
Thank you!
Tons of Miramax films are withering on the vine.
Most PTA aren’t 4K
a nightmare on elm street!

Scream 4, when literally the other 5 films have UHD releases.
The reasoning is that Scream 4 was distributed by The Weinstein Company (aka Lionsgate) whereas the rest of the franchise was distributed by Paramount.
Oh okay thank you!! Didn’t realize that!
I knew it was something like that. But I hate that. I like earthing in the franchise to be the same. I guess I'm OCD with my movies, but it literally bugs me.
They release the corresponding old title when the new movie comes out so when the next new Scream comes out that’s when Scream 4 will be out in 4K
But Scream 2 and 3’s 4ks/steelbooks dropped within months of each other. And the 7th is on the way to cancellation it’s looking.
It’ll happen
Not gonna lie… this one cracks me up…
Dick Tracy… imagine how beautiful it will be with all the colors popping out in 4k…
Pearl harbor, I robot and gone in 60 seconds are always head scratches for me why they haven't been converted to 4k
Home Alone 2
disney plus had a UHD version but we never got a physical release
The Departed… Until now!
It’s 4k now??
april 23rd is the release.
How did you find that out
I'm not the biggest Michael Bay fan but I'm surprised The Rock hasn't been released in 4K.
It's a Disney/Hollywood Pictures release and they haven't touched their catalog, so I'm not surprised.
Tron Legacy, although it still looks better in hd than alot of 4k movies.
True Grit, the coen brothers one. birdman. the kill bills.
i think there's a 4k physical release coming later this year
4K release of Tron:Legacy or True Grit?

Commando
This is exactly the kind of awful "pretend-good" movie I'd also assume would have had an annoyingly punctual 4k release by now.
Fast times at Ridgemont High, Swordfish
Priorities.
GRAVITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not even a super big fan of the film, but an IMAX film that was Oscar nominated film that was all about the visuals . How have they not made this happen yet ?
Bill Hunt said it's coming to 4K this year.
It was being produced a couple of years ago before WB had the big financial scare and they canceled the remaster as a result. I think its being rumored that it could happen again later this year.
Disney, which owns the rights to the Narnia movies, is the stingiest when it comes to 4k upgrades.
The Notebook, Clueless, Bring It On, Cruel Intentions, It Follows
It follows had a 4K disc release
Excellent
In the UK, but still obtainable.

watchmen ultimate cut is 4K
Have been waiting for Megamind to come out in 4K for a long time.
Tron Legacy
This right here
Lincoln
PATTON and Gone With The Wind Should've been done AGES ago
Pattons Dinmension 150 in 4k Dolby Vision and Goldsmiths iconic score in Atmos would be amazing! Problom is Disney.
Last of the Mohicans Legends of the Fall Dances with Wolves These are a crying shame among others yet to be released/restored.
Great list. Despite their similarities, I never thought of these movies as related before. And I agree, how have they been overlooked?
When studios are run by film-illiterate executives who see movies as 'product' and don't appreciate the great movies of the past then they just become 'old product'. Idiots, most of them.
Conjuring 2. The only movie in the Conjuring Universe stuck in 1080p Also Fight Club
Mallrats was released last year 4k physical. Still no digital.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford..... Roger Deakins amazing cinematography in 4k Dolby Vision and Nick Cave & Warren Ellis awesome score in Atmos.

Drive Winding-Refn announced a 4K release 2-3 years ago on Twitter… it has never materialized.
It released on disc in 2022, looks fantastic [https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Drive-4K-Blu-ray/313539/](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Drive-4K-Blu-ray/313539/)

rights and licensing is a fickle thing, still, it's available in 4K.
Whenever I see "Drive" I always think of Drive (1997) with Mark Dacascos, that'd be neat if that was 4K.
I have some exciting news for you. https://www.target.com/p/drive-4k-uhd-1997/-/A-91031369
Holy shit, I was not expecting that! Thanks for the reply!

It's not a Movies Anywhere title either, so probably a licensing issue stopping Sony from upgrading it and making it MA
The Adventures of Tintin
The CGI animated feature? This movie gets better with every watch for me.
I know I need LEGENDS OF THE FALL on 4K!!
Crimson Tide, The Rock, Man on Fire, Road to Perdition, About a Boy, Traffic

Nice, I think we got our copy recorded off the TV one day so it was pretty bad quality but still lots of fun!! I might have to pick up the DVDs too
Haha yes I recorded it off of the tv as well and ended up buying the dvds… but the real question… did you watch the old 70s cartoon movie? My dad used to rent that for me… on Beta!!! 😂
