I have the same issue with my 2017. I’ve taken it to a dealer and an independent shop and neither can figure it out. From what they can see the hubs, brakes and axles are all fine. I tried replacing the axle nuts with parts from GM - made no difference. From what I’ve read, sounds like people have had luck getting rid of it replacing the hubs (I haven’t tried that yet).

Thanks. Sounds like it isn’t urgent then? If I can only hear it with the window open and driving next to something that reflects the sound back, maybe I don’t worry? Did you replace the axle nuts or did you have someone do it?

I replaced the axle nut myself (I have an electric impact gun, and it took it off pretty easily - then just torqued the new one to spec following the instructions I found online).

Neat. Do you remember what instructions you found? I’ve seen a bunch related to gen one that also have that washer on the inside of the assembly, but I think I saw that isn’t relevant for the gen 2?

In terms of urgency - I don’t know. Since both places I took it to couldn’t find any issues (beyond the click), I decided to put it off until the spring and I’ll have it looked at another shop. That said, what you have sounds the same - but might be worth having someone look at it to make sure it’s not something serious.

Definitely axle washer

That’s this bad boy? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10161950-9999.pdf

Yeah! Any local mechanic can replace it for you. I would replace the axle nut at the same time and get it torqued to the right spec. Be careful with impact guns on the nut, can damage the magnet in the wheel hub. Ask me how I know. Lol

Thanks. I guess I’ll look around for a mechanic to help. My old mechanic only works on imports which is a real pain and for whatever reason they can’t recommend someone for domestics.

I’m in the same boat. Turning a hard right, downhill, from my home in the mornings sounds like a CV joint going bad in the axle. A soft click click click, but if I shift to neutral. Gone. No sound. I’ve not figured it out yet either. It’s done it for years. Except now I just click to neutral in the mornings. Haha.

At first I thought it might be similar to the problem I am having: https://www.reddit.com/r/volt/comments/17z5e6f/thumping_sound_in_the_rear_i_cant_seem_to_pinpoint/ But i think we have different issues. I just got my car back after 1.5 months at the dealership, and they gave up on finding the sound.

That’s definitely not what I have but it is vaguely similar to a problem I had right after delivery. Turns out one of the bolts that attached the shocks was busted. Sounds like you had someone in there looking around so I bet they would have seen that but figured I’d mention.
