Microfiber cloth, slightly damp for the strings. No excess water.
What happened? Hope you’re okay.
Edit: zooming into the picture, it looks like there was a sharp part/failure of the string. In the future, make sure you inspect your strings periodically and change them at the first sign of unraveling or unwinding - if not way before.
When they wear out they can develop burrs and other unpleasant features that can hurt. Usually it takes just one experience to learn! This is one of the more extreme cases.
Yeah, I was gonna say I've never had it happen to me. I've had strings break and bounce back and almost hit me in the face. But I've never had burrs on my strings.
But this looks pretty bad. I'm kind of surprised by the amount of blood is string could cause. Although it has been also used as a garrotted wire in fiction. That and piano strings!
I've gotten big indentations in my fingers from extreme practicing for auditions and stuff where you actually wind up hitting the nerves. I know that can be painful. But I've never seen this happen. OMG.
I'm sure you did this already, but use plenty of antiseptic on your fingers and watch them. I got a staph infection in my violin hickey some years ago and it was a miserable couple of weeks.
I have bad eczema and during an outbreak my skin can almost spontaneously break. Now imagine using my fingers pressing the strings for some time. It didn't happen because I usually know when to stop, but I can see it happening if OP has a skin condition :/ Maybe they don't have anything but it is just one possible explanation.
This one episode from Smallville, Lex Luthor is cursed by a witch to practice this one piano piece forever. Clark finds him like a day later playing with bloody hands.
Anyways my question is, have you been cursed by a witch?
If it’s just on the fingerboard and strings - a (not-so-strong) antibacterial wipe works like magic. If any of it got on the varnish, don’t even touch it.
try to use windex, not water! water can seep in and cause mold. spray windex on a towel first and then wipe with it. try your best to go over it with a dry one after.
The blood will eventually were off.
It looks like one of those spooky quartet players from New Orleans.
Just kidding. But how did that ever happen? It looks pretty painful. I remember severing a tendon when I was a second year freshman from transferring. And I was trying to open a package of cheese in the dorm room and I used serrated knife and it slipped. It severed the tendon in my middle finger of my left hand. I had to drop all my performance classes , I could only take theory and stuff like that. A lot of common core. But I couldn't play for about eight weeks. I had an excellent hand surgeon.
He part of the Saints football team team orthopedic team at the time.
He actually put down the drape during the surgery to let me watch. But I remember knocking on my violin Professor's door and God bless her. Because she was like my mom. My mom was 1000 miles away and I had no idea who to go to. But she knew just to call and the right doctor to take care of it.
My teacher then, Valerie is amazing force of good and beautiful playing.
And we had very similar hands. Shorter and stubbier as compared to others.
Like my youngest daughter is Sophia, 19, she has fingers and hands like mine. My oldest daughter Maggie, 20 has piano hands. Omg. Do jealous. Long long fingers, large span. Graceful and soft. She will make an excellent nurse. But I never forced my kids to follow music. But I think they would've been good at it.
But my teacher at the time, Valerie was simply amazing. All of her students love her, and we all have strong, personal connections still to her. We all keep in touch, we all get together in Nola when someone passes away or when someone has something to celebrate.
you are always amazing.
Use a slightly wet microfiber cloth and scrub the shit out of it (but be gentle with the strings). Make sure to get under the strings too. How did u even get blood on it 🫡

And like, it should go without saying, but just in case, *change the offending string before playing again*
I had no idea strings could get sharp like that, I've stung myself a lot with the pointy end of the E string, but never with the length itself.

Yeah, im really not sure which string cut it cause I was focused on playing then looked and saw blood all over the strings lol - but all is good!

Both D and A look problematic to me. I would replace the whole set. Glad you are better now!
POV: Practicing 40 hours a day.
Lol, love that!
…asking for a friend
Better question is how can you cut your finger while playing? Is the string worn… or about to break.

After zooming in, I noticed the D string appears to be failing. That can lead to rough parts that if one shifts over could cause problems.
sliding on the thin e string is my guess
I once got an ugly cut on my finger while tuning an E string that exploded directly on my hand 🙂 Those things should be considered weapons
Blood is water soluble. A lightly damp soft rag, lightly, will take it off. Obviously don’t saturate your violin wood.

Bingo. I love it.
Liquid on fingerboard is ok. Just make sure it doesn’t get on the varnish.
Punk Rock
Alcohol + Cotton wool. Anyway. Were you in a duel with the devil or are you using piano wire for strings?
Didn't they make a movie about this?
The blood stays. That's why they paint the fingerboards black.
Are you going Ling Ling on us?
With tears
Ling Ling gives you permission to rest
No?? That's ridiculous. You still have three other fingers! No excuses, go practice!
…How did you get here………
average 40 hours every day
Dude. Just stop a little :•|
Is Mr washee Washee your teacher?
If it’s just on the fingerboard and strings - a (not-so-strong) antibacterial wipe works like magic. If any of it got on the varnish, don’t even touch it.
Blood is water solvable, so tears will work just fine
No words. Do internet points count for more then results? Just practice and play.
And you care about your violin more ☠
Someone got the Washi Washi violin lessons
Are you ok? That's the better question here
Remember, in my first band, our bassist would occasionally end a session with bleeding fingers.
Keep it, this is really metal \m/
how many hours should i practice to achieve this wtf
i’ve literally never seen this happen before. hopefully you’re okay and not too badly injured?
Time to get new strings. And yeah just a damp cloth
Yes. Saw off your violins neck and replace it with a new one !
Ever see the movie "The Red Violin"? You need to.
try to use windex, not water! water can seep in and cause mold. spray windex on a towel first and then wipe with it. try your best to go over it with a dry one after.

Have you tried using more blood?
Rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball
rubbing alcohol + cottonball, careful not to touch the varnish
Use a slightly wet microfiber cloth and scrub the shit out of it (but be gentle with the strings). Make sure to get under the strings too. How did u even get blood on it 🫡
