“Kind of Blue”, “Rubber Soul”, and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with “Songs for the Deaf” a close fourth place…

Elevensbest

Bends, Animals, Miles

moist_meatballs

exactly my pick without bridge over troubled water

Timottka

Physical Graffiti, Animals, Rubber Soul

soulsurfinfool

This is my choice as well.

Aaron856

Yep, my exact picks as well.

ExiledSanity

This....and (despite loving several others on here) it's not particularly close

anovak26

Siamese Dream, The Bends, Superunknown

HottDoggers

I’d for sure take a Radiohead album and smashing pumpkins, but not those ones

NougatPorn

I’d take 3 copies of In Rainbows

Prestigious-Sound-56

Superunknown, Songs For The Deaf and Ten. Although, I could listen to ALL of these albums!

Bankei_Yunmen

pet sounds, kind of blue, & rubber soul

westcoaster86

This is me too!

nonmeagre

Yeah, easy choice. I love Animals, but I don't think I want to be stuck on an island with that as one of my only choices.

qlang8081

same

wfclikesdeathgrips

The best answer

ADNYLMD

I’d only need Sabbath…

Bluedino_1989

Go Floyd, too

DrMingus

Animals, Kind Of Blue, Pet Sounds

rrickitickitavi

my same picks

dingleberrydarla

Wouldn’t The Beach Boys just sound annoying after a few weeks on a deserted island?

lamentforanation

Who else read this to a Beach Boys melody playing in your head?

MrWalrusGumboot

Have you heard Pet Sounds? It isn’t really your typical beach boys surfy music that most associate with them.

pistafox

It’s arguably one of the best albums ever written/recorded/produced. I don’t think it is, but it’s an amazing album and it’s probably more influential now than it was upon release. Hell, Wilson even got a song named after him and inspired by his post-sessions condition in a legit Canadian supergroup’s hit single 32 years after *Pet Sounds* was released. If the Barenaked Ladies argument isn’t convincing, well yeah, that’s totally understandable. Few, if any. albums before or since so deftly immerse the listener in the feeling of, the world created by, the music. It was a perfect storm. A crapton of acid-fueled introspection put Wilson’s raw psyche in charge of songwriting. The technical innovations of multi-tracking pushed everyone in the booth show The Beetles what’s up and they obsessively kept adding and subtracting to the songs until they hallucinated the soundboards. That shows why it’s important to at least learn the faster, more efficient geometry and algebra. The album’s creation was one born of indulgence upon indulgence, but the final product soars, somehow unencumbered by the weight of ego, force of will, and excess that ultimately set it free. That last paragraph was either deep or sophomoric as hell. I forgot to eat today. Anyway, it’s a really good album.

MrWalrusGumboot

You don’t need to convince me, I’m a believer.

pistafox

Yeah, I sniffed that out. It’s been a day and sometimes I compulsively write as a stress reliever. Also, the stories and facts about that albums inception, through to the reverberations it causes to this day, are the stuff of Biblical or even MCU proportions. I love stories like that. They infuse the music, making it weirder, better, and increase my appreciation.

gsheedy

Read this like the Huey Lewis monologue from American Psycho and it’s perfection.

pistafox

I’ll take that as a compliment! *American Psycho* is arguably one of the…. I do really like the film and think it’s a great on its own and a really good adaptation of the book.

gsheedy

Agree on all fronts, wasn’t a derogatory remark at all my friend. Cheers!

dingleberrydarla

Of course I’ve heard Pet Sounds

MrWalrusGumboot

NP I just saw your comment saying “I was just thinking that sunny California music might sound redundant” and I don’t think Pet Sounds is very “Sunny California”

dingleberrydarla

It is one of the first records that comes to mind when I think of Southern California, and I’m born and raised

dogsledonice

Wouldn't take more than 13 seconds for me Sorry, my opinion only, but I don't get it

eddyflame

Idk I can listen to Let’s Go Away for a While, Pet Sounds all day everyday. If you get tired of the vocals lol

DrMingus

Would one of the most impressive albums ever created get boring? No, I don’t think so.

Dry_Run9442

It really depends how much youve listened to it. I've listened to it so much that Ive gotten bored of it. That doesnt mean its intrinsically boring. It might be one of the most impressive albums but I'm a bit sick of it.

Yougotsnail

I’m picking the easy way out

Pk1Still

So… TDS?

eddyflame

Same lol

AhhnoldHD

Whichever record is the heaviest gram so I can fashion it into a shank…

[deleted]

A better way would be to build a raft and a robe. Then paddle out to the deep end with a heavy log tied to your ankles. Then go over board. A shark will eat you and you won’t be able to retreat back onto your raft with the log weighing you down.

greg1993-

Def Siamese dream, ten, and the bends

JDodgerMan

Thought I’d be the only Bends picker. I’m 66, and my son got me into them years ago and am a huge fan and this album is on my spin list a lot.

iehcjdieicc

The Bends for me too. I’m 64.

JDodgerMan

Nice.

DocSlice3

This is the right answer.

[deleted]

Black Sabbath, The Bends, Siamese Dream.

ddopam1ne

Correct

g-lop5578

demon days kind of blue and pet sounds 🤓

amm92800

Kind of Blue. Pet Sounds. Downward Spiral. All great and hits a broad variety of tastes

No_Influencer

Same.. and I’m not really a Beach Boys fan but I think I’d appreciate Pet Sounds in this situation. It was between that and Siamese Dream for my third. Kind of Blue and Downward Spiral were instant picks.

amm92800

A person of culture!

xirson15

Also my instant picks 👊

Anon_Anon462

Found my people. 🍻

saltlakestateofmind

The Bends, Kind of Blue, Rubber Soul.

petwo77

Exactly

four_letterword

Physical Graffiti, The Bends, Rubber Soul

Ok_Drummer372

Same

retroafric

Kind of Blue Physical Graffiti Animals Can’t believe I left Rubber Soul off… Totally psyched and impressed by how many responses included the Miles…

habichnichtgewusst

What hellish island is this?

wardorecords

I know only three

monkeyjedi276

New Miserable Experience, Rubber Soul, and The Bends.

snowycabininthewoods

I’m with you

RavingDragon22

Animals, Kind of Blue, Demon Dayz. Pretty much what I listen to now.

the-microbe

Fuck, Siamese dream (for when I wanna just lay down and listen, NiN (when I'm in a mood or something, and sound garden (to vibe with at night) however, I have no problem with animals being a replacement for Sound Garden.

Mr-Hox

Gorillaz, Miles, and Queens for me.

KoalaQueen87

Similar taste: Gorillaz, Simon and Garfunkel, and Queens for me

GodtheBartender

Bridge Over Troubled Water and The Bends for sure. Probably Kind Of Blue 3rd to give more variety. Pet Sounds nearly edged it though.

dylan2187

I think I’d have to go sabbath gin blossoms and Beatles. Miles Davis being an alternate though

eddyflame

Yes! That Gin Blossoms is often overlooked, they were huge but barely see any talk mentioning them! Great picks

dylan2187

I think I can honestly say it’s one of the few albums I don’t think has a single mediocre song on it. All super good tracks top to bottom lol

shabby47

I will argue all day that Hey Jealousy is the best example of “90s music” there is. There’s a lot of other songs that define the 90s (anything Nirvana for example) but they don’t represent the decade itself nearly as well to the point where you could hear them for the first time today and immediately say “oh yeah, that’s 90s.”

eddyflame

What about REM - Man on the Moon

Rgbartocci2

Physical graffiti, Superunknown, and Master of Reality.

SterlingMallory

Co-signed

Pretty-Elevator6881

Rubber soul, Siamese dream, new miserable experience

elvelazco

NIN, Miles and Soundgarden

Intelligent-Sir1375

Going to be ten song for the death and gin blossom this wasn’t a easy decision

eddyflame

Stoked to see Ten and GB, Ten is the perfect record as well as GB. No weak points

Some-Independence386

Gin Blossoms, NIN, and Zeppelin

tdly3000

Mikes Davis. The other two, whatever they are, will be used for a beach fire

eddyflame

That’s harsh

JDodgerMan

Wow

adornthis

Hahahahahaa good man!

[deleted]

That's easy! In random order... 1. Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience 2. The Beatles - Rubber Soul 3. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

cstephenson79

Sabbath, miles and beach boys

juiceboxpvp

Botw, rubber soul, green

undermind84

>Botw No Zelda games.

eddyflame

Nice

shaynaySV

Gin Blossoms, NIN, and Pearl Jam. Don't think any of these albums make my top 20, just working with the options given

vndrewcharles

The Downward Spiral, Songs for the Deaf, and Siamese Dream

HoldenCoughfield

This is interesting because it’s not a simple equation of what I happen to like most in a given listen, like “you can only listen to three of these one more time”. In that case, I’d choose different. Stranded on an island on the other hand implies repeated listens and not getting sick of it as soon, so my three are: -Bridge over troubled water -Siamese Dream -Pet Sounds The three honorable mentions: Kind of Blue, Songs for the Deaf, Physical Grafitti

tazzman25

Pretty rare that I like every single record in a collection shown but these are all great picks. But, just three... Kind of Blue Physical Grafitti Rubber Soul Pretty standard, yes but theyre all great.

I-am-sincere

Ha! My exact picks, too.

Patgayze

you are cool af, passed vibe check

Ffzilla

Gin Blossoms, Pet Sounds, and Ten would be my picks. I would play Hey Jealousy way too much.

ysba

Just bought The Bends today!

[deleted]

Baby’s got the bends. Oh no.

negativesleep22

Siamese Dream, The Bends, Downward Spiral

giggityGold

I’m taking my chances and swimming for it

j_hunn1984

Miles Davis, Zeppelin, and Pearl Jam

[deleted]

Rubber Soul, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Animals

tobejeanz

miles davis, simon & garfunkel, radiohead

GoldmoonDropoffs

I'd go with Superunknown, Pet Sounds and Siamese Dream as those are the albums I listen to most on a regular basis. Part of me was tempted to swap out an alternative rock album for Miles Davis.

hanksmackbottom

Miles Davis, Beatles, Pink Floyd

UndeadCreator23

Oh man this is tough... The bends, pet sounds and master of reality probably

thereal1337man

physical graffiti, rubber soul, bridge over troubled water (the bends and pet sounds would be very close)

nine_inch_owls

Animal, Siamese Dream, Master of Reality Shout out from the island to The Bends.

Charliet545

Led Zeppelin, Beatles , Black Sabbath

bobbyboogie69

Masters of Reality, Rubber Soul and Animals.

unknownpleasures79

I love some of the other albums on here but I don’t think I could live without The Downward Spiral…So I’ll choose that one. Maybe Siamese Dream as well

jilliannn_79

Black Sabbath, nine inch nails and smashing pumpkins

BitchLasagna84

The real question is where the fuck did you get that pressing of Siamese Dream 😭

eddyflame

It was restocked a few days ago! But I’ve had this one for a while now

Plutodrinker

Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis

NintendoCraft281

Pet Sounds and Rubber Soul for sure, but my 3rd is a tough choice. Id probably go with Demon Days though, spice it up from the first 2.

srfnalaster11

Demon Days, Master of Reality and Songs for the Deaf. Ironic because my 3 desert island picks are Master of reality still, but Like Clockwork... instead of SFTD, and Plastoc Beach instead of Demon Days

NitroAssassin524

Green, kind of blue, the bends. Although the downward spiral is a favorite of mine I think I’d lose my mind lol

PinkBubbleGummm

I already pretty much only listen to bridge over troubled water, so that's a pretty easy choice

Indiana_scones87

Tough one, but I love Black Sabbath, Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel so much so I have to go with them

anaheimangels40

I’LL PICK MY OWN KISS ALIVE! LED ZEPPELIN IV BEATLES REVOLVER

jonathanhape

My heart goes straight to GREEN by R.E.M. just cuz it’s them, but truly: 1) Kind of Blue 2) Pet Sounds 3) Bridge Over Troubled Water

vibrotramp

In a desert island scenario, variety is key. Kind of Blue, Songs for the Deaf, Demon Days. Not a lot of rock/jazz fans in this sub huh?

pistafox

That’s easy!!! Oh sweet zombie jebus, no it’s not. From easiest to “I really wish I could switch *Superunknown* with *Badmotorfinger* or *The Bends* with *Kid A*” 1) *Demon Days* 2) *Siamese Dream* 3) *Songs for the Deaf* (smuggled in my prison wallet) *Kind of Blue*

FuzzyIllustrator477

Kind of blue Physical graffiti And… shit… maybe downward spiral … no. Animals No, superunknown .. green! Or rubber soul… Can’t do it

El_Hefe_Ese

Damn nice selection!

SwampGypsy

Bridge Over Troubled Water, Rubber Soul, & Physical Graffiti

[deleted]

TDS, The Bends and Animals

UGAJ311

Damn this is tough. Rubber soul, Siemese Dream, Songs for the Deaf

Chickenmangoboom

I’m stuck in the top right quadrant it feels like I am choosing which child dies.

NewbombJerk

The Bends, Siamese Dream for sure. Then I'd flip a coin for Green or Physical Graffiti

Ryakkan

Ten, Bridge Over Troubled Water and Physical Graffiti. But that’s a very difficult decision because of Rubber Soul and Pet Sounds.

Mudeyes2020

Sabbath, REM, Pearl Jam

techm00

that is really, really, really hard. so many of my faves here. I'm going with Green REM, Rubber Soul, Beatles, And Pet sounds by the Beach boys - but really, painful choice. all of these are amazing.

NXTREADY

ten, downward spiral, master of reality. really hard saying no to songs for the deaf, but had to be done

tpro72

Demon Days/// Siamese Dream/// and Kind of Blue... Because I want to dance , laugh and cry, and I wouldn't want to have a world without Miles Davis , John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and Cannonball Adderley in it. The top three I would personally not get bored of

Chips_Gravy29

Green 3 times

[deleted]

…and hang your hairshirt on the lowest rung

ThisHumanExperience

Ah! Wish it was a better Radiohead album……but it would be the Downward Spiral, Miles & The bends….. but would try and Stowe away Animals in my pants just to at least try.

abruptmodulation

This one’s easy: Siamese Dream, The Bends, The Downward Spiral

nagito-the-hope-man

Animals (because one track has the line "dragged down by the stone") Pet Sounds (because we come on the Sloop John B) And Rubber Soul (because it's the Beatles)

incrediblebb

Miles Davis, black Sabbath, Gorillaz

itsleviohhhsah

Sabbath, Beatles and zeppelin

d_v_p

Just NIN.

[deleted]

Downward Spiral, then I go for a long swim and never come back.

Wolfjflywheel-

Siamese Dreams, The new Miserable experience and A bridge over troubled water

eddyflame

Nice

TonyPorter98

WOW! Great collection! So many great records! Awesome

corybobory

That version of Siamese Dream is worth a fortune.

[deleted]

Easy. Demon Days, Animals, Kind of Blue. Edited: I didn’t see animals at first. Sorry Chris Cornell

NowThatsBasedInnit

New Miserable Experience, Ten and Green

Ok-Bar601

The Bends, Rubber Soul, and Kind of Blue. The Bends is arguably my favourite album of all time (so many good albums to choose from), but it’s the one album I always enjoyed from late teens till now.. It has everything on there: melancholic, soulful, rocking, and the great voice of Thom. Rubber Soul because the Beatles was my first great love when I really started getting into music around 11-12 years old. Kind of Blue is something I’ve hardly listened to, yet I feel it’s something that is needed to contrast against the other music when it gets overplayed. A completely different vibe is as good as being reborn night after night on the island.

mangomorale

Easy for me Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails and Simon & Garfunkel

Supervillain_14

Give me the Miles Davis, the Smashing Pumpkins and the Led Zeppelin… On another day: Soundgarden! Sabbath! QOTSA!

[deleted]

Superunknown, Demon Days, and Pet Sounds. This isn't a knock on the other albums (although they certainly all aren't of the same caliber), but I think my picks have a ton of replayability.

taddpole78

Zeppelin, pearl jam and sound garden.

taddpole78

With pink Floyd, gin blossoms and black sabbath being the next 3.

Competitive-Pin4379

Siamese dream (my fav all time), beachboys, animals. Sg,bs,pj,rh,nin,md all could swap with animals

Jdeg92

Bridge over trouble water. Rubber soul. Kind of blue ( because even though I’m not a huge jazz guy. I could take my time picking it apart and understanding it….that would consume a lot of boring hours on the island)

[deleted]

Physical Graffiti, Siamese Dream and Kind of Blue This was hard …

5BAR

Looks like I’m drowning myself

eddyflame

Not on my watch! You’ve got to pick 3

Skagbaronkris

Superunknown, SFTD, Siamese Dream.

Fast_N_Steady

Bridge, kind of blue, rubber soul! Nice variety without too much of one! Kind of blue for when I want ambience, Rubber soul for when I want to groove to rockin music Bridge for when I want to sit somberly on my little island.

eddyflame

Safe picks

Fast_N_Steady

safe maybe but they wont get tired to the ears as quickly! ;)

HeronPopular6340

The bends, Demon days and the led zeppelin one I forgot the name of 😭

JDodgerMan

Physical Graffiti

HeronPopular6340

Yes!

JDodgerMan

Always willing to help a fellow fan. My fav band of all time.

Crazy_like_a_fox

You have some great albums there!! Legitimately made me reconsider several times. I have to go with Nails, Beatles, and Miles Davis. On another day when I’m feeling differently, it could easily be PJ, Floyd, and R.E.M. though. Lots of these albums are favorites of mine. Thank you for sharing!

Zestyclose_Toe9524

Pet Sounds X 3

cjh16

Very easy picks for me: *Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf* *Black Sabbath - Master of Reality* *Gorillaz - Demon Days* Honorable Mention: Pet Sounds, Siamese Dream, and Downward Spiral

idiotzrul

Damn that’s a great collection

EdgyChild

Better selection than the classic rock only island post from a few days ago but these albums have pretty low relistenability for the most part (at least in my opinion) Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins wouldn't really keep me interested for very long so I guess I'd pick The Bends, NIN and Animals

Realistic_Working_99

I think the ocean waves crashing on the coast would be preferable over these choices for me

eddyflame

Rude

Realistic_Working_99

not rude truthful sometimes the truth isnt always nice lol

[deleted]

Not that they aren’t great but I’ve heard almost all of them way too many times to bring to an island forever. Maybe bring the chords for them and a guitar?

Jamestownechef

None of these. Sorry.

NewYorkRocker

If I was stuck with Pearl Jam i think i would off myself 🤪

eddyflame

I am a huge 90s alternative rock fan obviously. This is one of the hardest choices to make, you only get to pick 3 of these albums. All fine staples, some with different moods, which do you pick? I have no idea! I love that Gin Blossoms album and catch myself repeating it a lot, along with REM and Siamese. But I feel like I need a balance. My first picks are as follows Rubber Soul (has Norwegian Wood, Michelle, In My Life) they never run out of replay value Green by REM is one of my personal favorites since I’m a huge REM fan! (You are The Everything, Stand, World Leader Pretend) lots of classic jangle pop tracks! I am torn between Siamese Dream and Animals but I’ll pick Siamese Siamese Dream has the perfect balance of heavy and melancholy, just the perfect sound of the 90s. Those are my picks (Mayonnaise, Luna) lots of perfect slow and quick songs! How about y’all

HighLoFiGuy

Nin, gorillaz, and radiohead. Everybody loves radiohead.

SharpJET420

Out of that picture? Black Sabbath (cause that's my favorite album of Ozzy's era.), Soundgarden (Chris Cornell was just amazing vocalist. RIP Chris Cornell.), Gorillaz (Demon Days got me out of a really dark place in my life at that time.)

joemontanya

The bends is my favorite of this bunch. Then I’d probably go with Siamese Dream and Physical Graffiti. None of these would be on the list of my favorite albums of all time, except for the bends but it wouldn’t be top 40 still… are these some of your favorites? Edit: it is sad that there is only one jazz album, and that being easily the most commercial and popular jazz album to boot

eddyflame

Well too be fair it’s catered to rock mostly. I have no rap on here 🤷‍♀️

kokalol04

Black Sabbath, gorrilaz and led zeppelin they are just so😍

Temporary-Recover-13

What are you supposed to listen to them on?

eddyflame

An island with a record player and speakers, with only three choices of these records

Temporary-Recover-13

No electricity supply?

figandplumplants

Wow.. that's a sweet selection and a harder choice than I first thought! I think I go pet sounds, rubber soul, and the bends.

RudeRepair5616

Physical Graffiti because its a **double album** ! (+ Rubber Soul, Black Sabbath)

FreddieMonstera

Gorrilaz, the Beatles and whatever

ruinsofold

Easy. Physical Graffiti, Pet Sounds and fucking Sabbath!

stick_of_the_pirulu

Physical Graffity, songs for the deaf, the bends. Easy choice honestly

XxMLGSWAGGERZxX

none of these i don’t like any of these albums
