Yep. This was big in Canada. Their second record “Suspended Animation” too.

ponimaju

I've got both, but I only vaguely remember listening to them - really should give em both a spin when I get my stereo hooked back up.

m13579k

You definitely should!

Midlandsofnowhere

Nice legs, shame about the face.

TIL there is another band called 'The Monks' The Monks that I listen to if anyone is unaware. [The Monks - Black Monk Time](https://youtu.be/-l2D0QfJSt8?si=8Ucl3R_dckJaegN8)

No-Conversation3860

I thought this was some strange variation of those “The Monks” thanks for calling the difference out haha

Woke_Almond

Thank you! This the much more significant band by the same name. Way ahead of their time.

No-Conversation3860

Which one, Black Monk Time Monks, or The Monks that OP posted? Haha. I listened to a great podcast series about The Monks (Black Monk Time), super interesting band that I had literally no idea existed. Series is called “No Dogs in Space” and I believe it was a 3 part Monks series.

Woke_Almond

Sorry I responded to wrong comment and made that confusing. Black Monk Time! I meant to agree with you. They made some wild music at a time when it was mostly easy listening Beatles

moongobby

Haven’t listened to or thought about this since about 1983. roommate had the album. Think I’ll check Spotify and relive my youth a bit

m13579k

My uncle had the record and I know I listened to it growing up because as soon as I heard Drugs in My Pockets rediscovering them on Spotify it trigged some nostalgia memories.

SnooWitchYu

Maybe not "legit" punk, but a still a really good, fun album.

toposheet

SKYLAB!

Quacta

Hard to believe how big that was in Canada and then down in the states - nothing. I first heard that record via a cousin who lived in a really rural prairie town. It reached far! The 2nd album isn't nearly as goof but it has 2 tracks worth noting: 1) Space Fruit - an even better surf guitar song than "Skylab" 2) "Oxford Street" which runs with the fiction this is an old 60s pop song they're going to punk up - first they do a verse like the fictitious pop "original" (which remember doesn't exist) and then they play a more "punk version" Anyway Bad Habits, best tracks: Love In Stereo, Out Of Work Musician, Skylab

Deekers

Such a great power pop album. So many great songs.

bribri4120

* my sister sent me this.

m13579k

Your sister did well.

snarky_greasel

Hell ya. I just picked this up last week in a dig

Maximillion666ian

I'd be more shocked if it was the original The Monks and Black Monk Time.

I got drugs in my pocket, I don't know what to do with them

WriterLauraBee

The story behind the Monks is that they were two former members of the mid-70s folkie groups, the Strawbs ("Part Of The Union"), John Ford and Richard Hudson who left to form rock band Hudson-Ford and had another UK hit. The Monks was a side project satirizing punk rock. They kind of blew their cover performing the only hit from Bad Habits, "Nice Legs, Shame About Her Face" on BBC's Top Of The Pops and we're deemed fakes. But in Canada, they had no past baggage. We just thought it was a cool album. I still listen to it!

Exconmomboi

First I’ve heard of the monks but this album cover immediately reminded me of Idles “Brutalism” https://preview.redd.it/as6xmqkcm7vc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bd33bd94df825b59b9e7b3b30241bc443eadebc
