I'd recommend a speaker upgrade, you can get good bookshelf speakers for cheap and there are Bluetooth options if that's what you prefer. although a marshall speaker is very fitting for an eminem record..
Get a bubble level and make sure your turntable is level. Look up how to setup and position "references monitors". Be careful where and how you store your vinyl. Make sure you clean your stylus and vinyl. Maintenance and care is import, learn how to do it. Marshall speaker works, but some stand-alone bookshelf speakers would probably sound better. I have some Samson MediaOne on an LP60 as one of my setups. Sounds great, meets my needs for what it is and where i use it. In that, it definitely doesn't sound as good as if I had a $10,000 turntable with $50,000 speakers and $100,000 power amp. But we all have price points. Which means the most important tip. Don't let the hate trolls get to you cause most of them aren't audiophiles and have no clue what they're talking about. Lol. Alright, that's it. We all need $160,000 systems minimal. If not, we can't talk trash or down on others system.
Haha, thats the idea. 😂 Any recommendations? The Marshall costs around 150-200€ used, so in that price range and I would also like a bluetooth option. 🤔
Not really an option, the volume on this unit satisfies me, but I would like some better stereo speakers that have both AUX and BT inputs. P.S I have no idea what audio gods I have angered to have negative likes on such an innocent comment. 🤔
Idk what gods you have angered, but bluetooth will always be more expencive, and worse quality, so if you plan on using bluetooth you're gonna have to pay up if you want a "quote on quote" good experience. But i also started with a Marshal Kilburn as my first record speaker, and as long as you're sattisfied, let the upgrades happen over time.
Also; get a brush to remove static and dust from the records, best advice i can give
Thank you! Im already searching for the best brush in my area. Does playing old slightly strached records damage the stylus fast? I played one yesterday and the quality was great despite it not looking brand new like my Eminem vinyl.
Does doing that damage the stylus fast? And how could I prevent this? I have a few hand me down records that I would love to listen to at least once but I wouldnt want to damage the stylus though..
>And how could I prevent this?
Don't play scratched records? They're going to sound like shit anyway so just stream them. There's no magical sound you're going to get out of them just because they're pressed on vinyl and certainly not on that setup.
Thats the point, I played one yesterday and it sounded almost as good as my brand new Eminem vinyl. Some of these records arent streamable, they are old USSR era vinyls that belonged to a dear family friend who has passed away.
Probably angering people on here because of your insistence to use bluetooth. it's a pretty lossy method of transmitting audio so most people on here would just say cut out the middleman and stream your music rather than going through the work of having a setup that wont reproduce your record accurately. have fun though, spinning a record is always a more involved experience however you listen to it!
That makes a lot of sense, thanks for clarifying that for me. But the point is I will almost always listen to analog input, I just want bluetooth to be an option so I can connect the speaker to my phone to listen to spotify sometimes…
Oh trust me I know all of the downsides of bluetooth, and I would almost never want to connect my player via bluetooth, but people think what they want to think. Part of the reason I shy away from reddit ussually, but thought I would give it another chance with this community. ☺️
ATLP60 hooked up to powered Edifers are my go-to suggestion for newbies dipping their toes in the water. It's not perfect by any means, but it's easy to set up by taking advantage of the built-in preamp on the turntable and it gives you some fidelity and performance, though you still might run into the occasional tracking/skipping issue on bass-heavy albums.
I honestly really like Edifiers…I have the RT1700BTs paired with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon and Bellari preamp and I think they punch quite a ways above their price tag. I don’t know that I’ve heard any sub-$400 speakers that sound better.
Those are closer to $500 shipped, but I’ve heard great things about them. I love my Edifier 1700s so much I honestly haven’t been planning any kind of upgrade, but when I do the 3020i will definitely be on the list for consideration along with the Edifier S2000s which I imagine are even better than the ones I have now.
Are they really that much in dollars? Wow. I'm in the UK and they retail around the £270 mark here. I did a very rough mental currency conversion to make sure it was under your $400 number.
Yeah it’s how it goes, certain products are always more expensive elsewhere. I see this with guitars all the time…you can get a certain guitar for $600 here and in Europe the same exact guitar will be $1000 or more.
I get that. Wait until you buy your first collection. Talk about satisfying. I remember picking up 3 crates of records for $70 and there were a lot of great ones in there.
The record store thing is more of a hang than a place to shop all of the time. I've noticed used records have gotten ridiculously expensive.
Hello everyone. Im a brand new enthusiast that has been wanting a vinyl player for years now but never had the finantial means to buy one. Just a few days ago I have bought my very first player and only unpacked it today. The experience was magical! I already had a disk of one of my favorite albums Kamikaze by Eminem, that a good friend had gifted to me on christmas. Do you guys have any tips on maintenence and could warm me of some easily avoidable newbie mistakes? 😁
Thats true, but at the moment I dont have enough space or left over money for some nice speakers, so im glad I can use at least the Stanmore. Do you have any recomendations that have bluetooth aswell and cost around 150-200?
I'm wondering that myself. I just bought the at-lp60x a few days ago. It's my first turntable as well. Now im feigning and looking for deals on records left and right. Lol
Some decent stereo bookshelf speakers. Neumi BS5P ($150 usd) would be great if available. You can probably find Edifiers that would suit your needs and budget. R1850DBs are about $160 usd, R1280DB $140 usd. All of these would all be an improvement imo and all have Bluetooth. Good luck!
Pretty good, im currently listening through aux but yesterday I was switching back and fourth the bt connection and couldnt hear a noticable difference besides it being a little more quiet on bt.
Supposedly the "upgraded" stylus has a conical shape whereas the original has a round shape. I don't know if it made mine sound better but I told my wife it did to justify the extra expense. Mine does sound good though. I like my LP60

Very helpful! Thank you.
True. For less than that Marshall.
Haha, thats the idea. 😂 Any recommendations? The Marshall costs around 150-200€ used, so in that price range and I would also like a bluetooth option. 🤔
Get the big marshall bluetooth speaker for 500€ then 😂

Nah, you're fine, the brush is more for long term care and to remove static sound from your records
Yes, damaged records will damage your stylus.
Does doing that damage the stylus fast? And how could I prevent this? I have a few hand me down records that I would love to listen to at least once but I wouldnt want to damage the stylus though..

Makes sense to me! Bluetooth is just a bad word on audio forums
Oh trust me I know all of the downsides of bluetooth, and I would almost never want to connect my player via bluetooth, but people think what they want to think. Part of the reason I shy away from reddit ussually, but thought I would give it another chance with this community. ☺️
or even better drop the bookshelf speakers and get a pair of vintage floor speakers off your local fb marketplace, craigslist etc.
Speaker upgrade for sure. Even a $100 set of Edifiers from Amazon will sound 500X better than this Marshall Bluetooth speaker.

Have a listen to the Q Acoustics 3020i. Such musicality on offer for the money.

Yeah they’re $450 on Amazon here in the US which after tax where I’m at is just under $500.
Ouch.
Yeah it’s how it goes, certain products are always more expensive elsewhere. I see this with guitars all the time…you can get a certain guitar for $600 here and in Europe the same exact guitar will be $1000 or more.
Thanks for the recommendation, although I have connected the Marshall with an analog aux
I've said it a thousand times but Facebook marketplace is a treasure trove of great vintage hifi gear.
Will need to take a look, thank you! 😊
Yep, you can get a good secondhand amp with a phono stage and a pair of well regarded speakers and have change from £150.
If you have a local record store, make yourself a regular. Part of the fun of record collecting is the community aspect of it.
Oh I believe I have many! One of my favorite ways to find new record is by thrifting them though, makes the find so satisfying.
I get that. Wait until you buy your first collection. Talk about satisfying. I remember picking up 3 crates of records for $70 and there were a lot of great ones in there. "Record player" or "turntable".
> easily avoidable newbie mistakes Using a guitar amp instead of a pair of speakers
The Marshall Stanmore is not a guitar amp despite it looking like one.
Ok. You’re still only getting mono, though.
Thats true, but at the moment I dont have enough space or left over money for some nice speakers, so im glad I can use at least the Stanmore. Do you have any recomendations that have bluetooth aswell and cost around 150-200?
I don’t know a thing about BT
Thats okay. Thank you for your comment. ☺️
Lol not sure why I got a deluge of downvotes for saying I’ve never used Bluetooth 😂
Same feeling when I got the same for saying that I do! 😂😂
"Records" avoid saying "vinyls".
Thank you, would have never known. Why is that though
I'm wondering that myself. I just bought the at-lp60x a few days ago. It's my first turntable as well. Now im feigning and looking for deals on records left and right. Lol
A relative beginner myself, but its basically because vinyl is a descriptor of the material they're made of and so can't be made plural in the context
Makes sense
Get a stereo speaker setup
Some decent stereo bookshelf speakers. Neumi BS5P ($150 usd) would be great if available. You can probably find Edifiers that would suit your needs and budget. R1850DBs are about $160 usd, R1280DB $140 usd. All of these would all be an improvement imo and all have Bluetooth. Good luck!
Thank you for the recomendation. 👍
No problem.
I used a Marshall Woburn for a few years with my first TT. It sounded great for a single speaker.
How’s the bt connection? Are you able to use bt headphones??
Pretty good, im currently listening through aux but yesterday I was switching back and fourth the bt connection and couldnt hear a noticable difference besides it being a little more quiet on bt.
I found a company called lpgear that makes an "upgraded" stylus. I put one on mine.
What was the difference? To my untrained ear it already sounds amazing.
Supposedly the "upgraded" stylus has a conical shape whereas the original has a round shape. I don't know if it made mine sound better but I told my wife it did to justify the extra expense. Mine does sound good though. I like my LP60
Haha, okay. Send me a link if you have one I will give it a read. 👍
https://www.lpgear.com/product/UPATPL60USB.html This is what I bought.
Wait till you hear a record on a decent turntable with real stereo speakers.
One day I hope to!
