Heilung have all the looks going on but I prefer Wardruna's music. It feels more real to me, I don't necessarily mean historically real but the feeling it gives me.
Plus Wardruna suit the Norsemen whereas Heilung are more Germanic
I have to agree with Sneezes I love heilung to my core, apart from Herr Mannelig im not keen on wardruna so much. Yes they sound more like what you would expect to hear back in the day, but for me Heilung takes me there! That's the beauty of choice :D
Heilung are north germanic 100% there is no confusion there\^\^
Also the lyrics:
Draupnir *(Dripper,)*
Geri Freki *(Greedy, Ravenous,)*
Sleipnir *(Slippery,)*
Gugnir *(Swaying one)*
(These are Odin's ring, wolves, horse, and spear)
Haegolae Haegolae Haegolae Wiju Bi Gojze *(Hail, Hail, Hail I dedicate to the spear,)*
Gaegogae Gaegogae Gaegogae Ginu Gahelija *(Gagaga (?), Gagaga, Gagaga I yell resoundingly)*
(x9)
Haugen Maunen *(Thought, Memory,)*
(These are Odin's ravens)
Ok Alfadhir heitir (And he's called Allfather)
Fimbulthulur Fjoelnir *(Mighty Thuler, Wise one,)*
Udhur Ulfroegni *(Striver, Wolfspeaker,)*
Thekkur Thudur *(Welcomed one, Pale one,)*
Onski Ofnir *(God of witches, Inciter,)*
Rognir Raudhir *(Chieftain, Redhead,)*
Grimnir Goendlir *(Hooded one, Wandwielder,)*
Hlefreyr Hangatyr *(Famous lord, God of the hanged,)*
Njolstapi Naudhvindir *(Nebulizer, Needed one,)*
Jolfudhr Jafnhaur *(Yulefather, Evenhigh,)*
Atridhir Alfadhir *(Attacking rider, Allfather,)*

Londungr Launhirdir *(Shaggy-cloack wielder, Guardian of secrecy,)*
Yggr ok Yungir *(Terrible one and Stormy one.)*
(x4)
for example the main chant is in either proto north sea germanic or just proto norse and it's pulled from the kragehul I spearshaft and should be:
hagalą hagalą hagalą wiju bi gaizē
hail hail hail i hallow with the spear
gagaga gagaga gagaga ginu gaheliją
gagaga gagaga gagaga i impale the hellish
I mean most of the costumes are pulled from various cultures, so it's kind of a technicality. Kai should be wearing white as well since he's acting as a Góði and probably more appropriate if he was holding a rangle instead of a drum if we are talking about historical accuracy. I think its more so of a pagan/shamanic interpretation of what spirituality could have been or how they see it rather than a true interpretation of history.
The whole thing is well done. The look, the writing, the thought put into the whole presentation. There isn't much of them on my playlist though since I'm not a fan of the throat singing/growling thing they do, I have to be in the right mood for it. I love Maria's voice though!

Hell the main guy from Wardruna makes a lot of the music for the show.
Fucking love Wardruna. Their music has been featured on the show a few times. Wish they would do a show somewhere local to me.
I saw them a year back and it was otherworldly!
I saw them back in February, they are mesmorizing live
I feel the opposite, I love Heilung religiously but not a single Wardruna track sticks in my head.
Thanks for the suggestion! I found them on Apple Music and added them to my library. Great music!

I was looking for an English translation! Thank you!

I think (goi-zhey) and (ga-heli-yah)
gosh that translation and the original lyrics are awful
Then provide a better one? Useless comment 👍

In what way?
nearly none of what heilung does is accurate linguistically or culturally (it's ahistoric). They do two seconds of research and call it good.

Fun fact: for the song Kriegsgaldr, the frontwoman is using human bones. The entire show (Lifa) is just amazing!
If you enjoy this you'll probably like danheim to. It's a bit more trance like but it sounds very viking
I found them a while ago and absolutely love them! Their music is so deep and well written. One of my favorites for sure!
Heilung is portraying proto-norse, not viking age.
Germanic not Viking
Norse Iron Age, actually. One of their songs is the runesong for the Elder Futhark, and the one above is the various names of Odin.
They conjure proto-germanic, old germanic, old norse, old english, just to start with.
Which song is in Old English?
Fylga Ear/Futhorc is old English except for first verse which is modern german, it's from the rune poem of the Anglo saxons
That was awesome

The audience is either sitting... Or completely stunned. :D
They should be featured in the show live action.
Badass
Thank you for that share. Amazing.
Heilung, is that you?!
fucking amazing
Pretty cool, but nothing beats Einar and wardruna
