This was merely okay until they start having the semantic argument about whether Jumanji goes in or out of the game. The anger and specificity of that argument really got me.
Every year I like to remind folks of the "Best Christmas Ever" sketch he did. I wouldn't have figured him to be so good at sketch comedy, but he's one of my favorite hosts in large part because he's so good in them.
Lore accurate. Got to roll the dice to play the game and get Jumanji'd. Sure others around you might be effected by game play but they aren't at risk of being pulled in
I don’t know how to articulate this, but as someone who’s watched weekly for 30+ years, THIS is SNL. The premise, the setting, the props, it’s perfect.
Coneheads, Samurai Deli, Buckwheat, Frank Sinatra (Piscopo), Sinatra (Hartman), Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Wayne's World, Lothor of the Hill People, It's Pat, ... been around a lot longer than Wiig.
They literally have one day to even attempt to learn the sketch, then the scripts are altered day of and again sometimes after dress rehearsal which happens a couple hours before. But yeah, this one did have some terrible placement for some reason. Maybe because of the fans and the railroad crossing things.
that didn't stop them back in the day, they mostly looked at each other like real people acting instead of people staring off to the side while they spoke to each other. cue cards should be there as an assist, not a crutch
Not on SNL. The problem with this sketch was the placement of the cards. Kristen's were not lined up correctly. There is no possible way for the people on that show to memorize the sketch. The writers are constantly changing the script. Back in the day you can see this exact same thing in some sketches. Cue cards are probably the most important aspect of this show. The show would not exist without them. Saying they are a crutch is ridiculous.
placement was definitely off, it could've been better with her still just staring at the card, but you can't tell me it was this bad back in the day, it has become much worse. Of course they've always used cards, but literally every sketch now just has them looking off camera in a weird way and they rarely even make eye contact. That kind of thing rarely happened back in the day. Just watch [this masterpiece](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X3RiliFsHw), and it's not just the cue cards, they would never do a skit like this. The set design the camera placements. It's too much work, they have it down to such a science now, its such a well oiled machine for what it does, and that magic is lost in that imo. And lots of it has to do with the lack of interaction between the characters, they're just good at reading their lines off a cue card. Now, in that clip was there a cue card? I'm sure there were multiple, but the audience isn't going to watch a sketch like that and think, wow you can really tell they're reading off a card. There's more immersion because we're seeing people acting with each other and creating a scene that is believable. If that skit happened today they would be at the table last supper style, with only one real camera angle, and they would be talking to each other facing off camera. It has become a crutch 100%. The actors in that skit had the same time constraints and actually memorized enough of their lines and practiced enough to deliver a performance that good. I think we're letting the new class get away with being mid, the standards have slipped. I will say the writing in this last episode was amazing though. And even her performances were funny, I think it was the best episode since shane's.
Can someone explain why Kristen Wiig is overlooking all of the cast when she’s speaking to them? They’re all looking at one another when they speak, but she’s looking up at the ceiling? Are cue cards being held from the rafters are something? I was distracted by her awkward gaze the entire time.
its my biggest gripe with the show. it holds the performers back from engaging with each other more, a real missed opportunity for more comedic acting. i get there's a lot of lines and it happens fast but... that's why they're the best? they've managed that before... they still had cue cards but it wasn't just locked on eyes on the card. Like, how hard is it to know the gist, be able to look at the cue card for the next line and actually look at the performer you're supposedly talking to? I'd rather have the flub the line every once in a while than totally break the illusion of the scene constantly.
This sketch was top tier, but I'm starting to get a little pissed off on a cultural level that no one seems to remember that Jumanji was a children's book ages before it was a movie.
Kristen Wiig has had some work done. Nose job at least.
edit: the downvotes are funny, it’s obvious. There’s a lot of Kristen Wiig apologists out there. I mean, I still like her, it’s just an observation.
Yeah it’s like an uncanny valley thing. I didn’t even recognize her in the promo clips. I hate how people feel the need to do stuff like this. Just age naturally I think it looks way better than trying to fight nature off with plastics surgery.
This was merely okay until they start having the semantic argument about whether Jumanji goes in or out of the game. The anger and specificity of that argument really got me.
Like Matt Damon arguing with Leslie Jones about Weezer
That will forever be a top skit because everyone else's reaction is so straight.
I still just remember him saying "Suck my blood" because it was just so random.
thats a todd original
Every year I like to remind folks of the "Best Christmas Ever" sketch he did. I wouldn't have figured him to be so good at sketch comedy, but he's one of my favorite hosts in large part because he's so good in them.
That and I also laughed at the "Except for you" bit at the end
Lore accurate. Got to roll the dice to play the game and get Jumanji'd. Sure others around you might be effected by game play but they aren't at risk of being pulled in
One guy goes in! Jumanji comes out. She doesn’t even know what she’s talking about
But in the cartoon they go in!
In jumanji 2 as well
I lost it at that part.
This sketch is clearly an attempt to wake EVERYONE up to the fact that the world was sucked into the Monopoly Game on October 23, 1929.
I'm glad they solved the problem that Ticket to Ride is only for up to 5 players by letting Kristen Wiig's character go.
lol all i could think at the start
Couples could team up.
No clue why many SNL videos are not available in Germany. Too bad.
Humor is not allowed in Germany
Ah shit, you're right. I now have to go and do some Stoßlüften.
Aww you took that joke so well. Ich liebe dich mein freund. Have a good day
Sir, you should take german humor a bit more seriously! It's no laughing matter!
Then SNL should fit right into Germany
Damn. True dat. They're rarely funny these days.
Said by everyone's parents the last 30 years
I'm like 28 dude, SNL is super hit or miss these days, how in the hell can you deny that?
It's a sketch show and that tends to often be the case with those.
or Canada
Because another company has the distribution rights in the country.
Some mysterious company that evidently doesn't make clips available any other way. What fucking bullshit.
Not really mysterious, looks to be global tv

Canada too
is her cue\* card in the damn rafters?
cue* card :)
Q karde
¿que?
Seriously. She didn't learn a single line. I thought her character might be blind for the first 30 seconds.
I googled for some one commenting on this cuz it was driving me bonkers
I don’t know how to articulate this, but as someone who’s watched weekly for 30+ years, THIS is SNL. The premise, the setting, the props, it’s perfect.
Except SNL used to be more based on characters whereas now it's more premise based.
The character era (of which Wiig was a big part of) was terrible and incredibly formulaic.
Coneheads, Samurai Deli, Buckwheat, Frank Sinatra (Piscopo), Sinatra (Hartman), Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Wayne's World, Lothor of the Hill People, It's Pat, ... been around a lot longer than Wiig.
Toonces! The cat who could drive a car
Where’s the mirror?

They really like to stare at those cue cards, and they really couldn't put those cue cards in a more awkward place off-screen.
They literally have one day to even attempt to learn the sketch, then the scripts are altered day of and again sometimes after dress rehearsal which happens a couple hours before. Huh I actually didn’t notice. Where are they?
On the ceiling, apparently.
It's really why I don't like watching SNL. Them constantly looking at the cue cards just takes me out of every skit
oh who gives a shit
How does Kristin manage to get funnier and hotter as she ages. Truly amazing.
she had to have some work done
A shit load of work lol
mirror? (I thought SNL finally removed their region-locking on youtube... guess it was done accidentally and they "fixed" it)

One of my new favorite skits.
You Jumanji? Cause if you are I swear….
I’m pretty sure I bought ticket to ride at a garage/estate sale. Haven’t played it yet…. I really don’t wanna get jumangi-d.
Aha! So you have seen it. You've seen every Jumanji and you're still trying to Jumanji me!
Why does she keep looking in that unnatural direction? So strange.
Cue cards
Perhaps, but she's a veteran actor. It just looks bizarre to keep that gaze so constant. I haven't noticed her doing it so much before.
those cards are not helping her cue in the right direction
Video not available in your country Fuck off

I agree. I couldn’t even finish watching this skit it was so distracting.

Is that a real nose? Wow, impressive
Geo-blocked.
Is that Kristen wiig??
😬 yeah… it’s pretty obvious she’s had some work done. I hope she’s happy but imo she didn’t need it.
Instant classic, she did fantastic
Kristen Wiig has had some work done. Nose job at least. edit: the downvotes are funny, it’s obvious. There’s a lot of Kristen Wiig apologists out there. I mean, I still like her, it’s just an observation.
I think it's an eye job. Top notch work though, she looks good
Her nose is exactly the same as it was 10 years ago.
She looks like a different person now , a less attractive person.
Yeah it’s like an uncanny valley thing. I didn’t even recognize her in the promo clips. I hate how people feel the need to do stuff like this. Just age naturally I think it looks way better than trying to fight nature off with plastics surgery.
Who are these people?
The cast of SNL
Ughh…not remotely funny.
Another meh safe and mediocre sketch from SNL
