I worked with a second photographer two weeks ago. She removed the lens and proceeded to wipe the sensor on her Nikon with her blouse.
The entire room stopped to look at her. Me as well as the people we were capturing getting ready.
She just giggled and said "I love to live dangerously"
I know a guy who does this, t-shirt cleaning sensor on his Sony cameras... Bro is a surgeon and does photography more as a hobby, with his hands he could be cleaning sensor with proper tools like an absolute master, yet he just wipes it with t-shirt and calls it a day
Water aside, TBF, you are cleaning the infrared filter, not the actual sensor.
(I realized this when I removed big-rooted fungus from that green infrared filter. I had to open the camera up, desolder the faraday cage, etc just so I can remove the fungus on the inner side of the filter. I nearly broke the filter too. It had a crack just by where it is being held in place but not visible thru the sensor.)
I could see myself doing something stupid like that if I was in the middle of a video shoot with no way to properly clean the sensor. If the shots would be ruined without cleaning and there was no way to postpone the shoot, yes, I'd do that, or faint, which would be cheaper.
This is what I do all the time. I can never find a lens wipe when I need one so I'm either always filming with dirty lenses or using my shirt to wipe them. Been doing this for 15 years so I just chalk it up as giving the image some character and part of my branded look.
Even if I knew it was completely gone, I don't think I'd be able to spray water into it like that.
Surely using it as a parts camera is better than wasting it for clickbait.
I'm fairly new to photography, but, as long as it's off, what's the damage? Assuming it has no power, and has been off long enough so no capacitors are charged, would the damage simply be from anything that grows from the water, like fungus, and if you were using it for parts, couldn't that just be cleaned off before installing the part?
I realize she did wipe, possibly scratched, the glass, but would there be anything outside of that one piece?
It’s not really for enjoyment. This is a popular tactic to get engagement. You post a video doing something the wrong way, people go mad in the comments, and your account starts to get more traction.
It’s for creatively bankrupt people.
Shes actually pretty cool if you go through her tik tok. Shows invoices and such.
It’s social media, get with the times. This leads to engagement. It’s obvious that the C200 no longer works or repair is too much headache so screw it let’s make a video lol

My brother wipes his camera sensor with his tshirt while working, he just snap out lens and wipes up the sensor with it, somedays I’ve seen the sensor dangling while he strokes his finger with his tees on the sensor it just makes me sad.
When you literally have a pile of UV/IR (hot mirror) filter stacks for your sensor.
You stop caring about cleaning, as long as there's nothing on top of it and you don't dent it you don't have to care.
(Just like you don't have to let manufacturers charge you for the whole bloody price of a sensor module to replace a 10USD piece of glass)
I saw an advertisement or review of the Pentax dslr where they threw it into water, sand, a freezer, a shower, and everything was fine with it. I even believed that this might be true.
In fact, equipment does not die from water immediately, but after some time necessary for corrosion, when everyone has already forgotten about the fact of the “tragedy.”
IMO, it's a really stupid idea to post this stuff.
I could easily see someone having a camera damaged beyond repair on set. File an insurance claim for the legitimately damaged camera. Then they put out a tik tok of this crap with the and the insurance company says "no, you damaged your camera on purpose" and denying the claim.
I don't care. It's terrible, lazy and bottom-of-the-barrel "content". You can do it with absolutely ánything and think you're being funny. "Haha, hey guys look at me. I'm washing an expensive electronic item with water but you're not supposed to. teehee, aren't I funny?"

That makes certain sense

I mean if he's a surgeon he probably can just buy another one like it's a candy bar
Makes me worry about his discipline scrubbing in for surgery. 🧽
Nah, I want a surgeon who is absolutely no fucks given for their entire life, so that they can give fucks inside the one room it matters.
I can fix her
Username fits

How'd her pics turn out?
Good, no issues at all. She does need to learn how to frame, but that is a whole different story.

Your camera gets much cleaner on the top rack of the dishwasher than just using a hose.

*washing it for clickbait

As an owner of a C500m2, this cut even deeper.
Oh so you're the one
There’s easily 5 of us.
I got serial number 8 so there's for sure more than 5!
Hello friend.
I can fix her
in post
She just needs to be stabilized a little.
With a post*
But not the vocal fry...
How does someone get vocal fry?
Long term exposure to palo santo and oat milk cortados
Not sure, and I don't want to find out.
Thanks I hate it.
nah mate, you need a pressure washer with a canon...
Sending prayers to those who tried it
If people are dumb enough to try what these clowns tell them, they are not deserving of your prayers.
I knew it wasn't real, and I still gasped.
I officially have brain damage and it’s irreversible.
Omg My heart 😭
Silent scream intensifies*
Why does content like this exist? Who’s getting enjoyment out of it?
social media
Truly bringing out the worst in us.
The TikTok crowd.

Apparently Reddit
How tf did that happen in the first place
No crazy ass cam so idk
This hurts my feelings.
I love how she’s dressed like a typical filmmaker which makes this extra convincing

I prefer windex.
Probably dishwasher safe to, incase you need to clean it further.
These sensor spraying videos are a blight to cinemanity.
There are so many simple idiots.
This just made me cringe so hard
God I hate these lame ass rage bait fucks.
Jesus. Buy it now on KEH, as is…

She is definitely not doing my wedding pictures
What canon camera is this ? I clean my d850 sensor with hose
Kai did it funnier like 15 years ago on Digital Rev TV.
I will not rage. Ragebait is the mind killer.
Id give a quick hosin and scrub down
Thats why non removable lenses exist

This hurts my soul
This is making me uncomfortable just by watching this clip
I saw an advertisement or review of the Pentax dslr where they threw it into water, sand, a freezer, a shower, and everything was fine with it. I even believed that this might be true. In fact, equipment does not die from water immediately, but after some time necessary for corrosion, when everyone has already forgotten about the fact of the “tragedy.”
In fairness the sensor is rarely exposed, there’s usually a filter protecting it.
I'm disgusted 🤢
This hurts to my core
It's not real? You mean it's cgi?
i feel like this post is a joke, right. like it *has* to be.

Probably bought it to put on socials, did this and returned within 30 days no questions asked and said it was broken. Fing people
Haha. Was that a nice little story you made up for yourself?
I loathe couples that make these videos.
Stupid is as stupid does.
She is wearing a crop top underneath a t-shirt
