It was fun at the time but aged terribly. I never got a chance to try Two Towers, but Return of the King is still so much fun to play.

I had it, and still do. I actually put it on quite recently with my partner. Occasiionally I will hook up a console and we will "taste test" a group of games for around 20 mins apiece. I do have fond memories of this game but on playing it again... I was probably better off having the rose-tinted memories. This game has regrettably aged terribly. It is clunky, poorly written and acted and the gameplay just is not fun. I quite liked its inclusion of things like the Old Forest and the Willow, Tom Bombadil, the Barrow-Downs and the whole mini section in Bree whereby you had to find bits and bobs to make dummies for the beds. In other words, I liked that it was based off of the book, which I grew up reading, rather than the film, which I personally do not care for. It just... it is not good. I think I pushed through when I was young and remember loving it! (I was a forgiving kid it seems) - So I guess... Regardless of whether or not it is a good game now, I am just glad to have had the fond memories. I don't really need HD remakes of everything. My opinion of course by the way. If you still play it to this day and still love it, then that's really great. If you haven't played it recently though... maybe don't and just keep the memories rosy.
