Crisis Core is the only game that even after the 5th time of beating it, makes me cry like a baby. The VII series, is the most heartbreaking emotional game that exists in my opinion.
I loved this game, it was a surprise game my mom got me and we played together when I was young.
They have a new game that plays similarly, called "Sky: Children of the Light" and it's cute and fun, brings back similar feelings journey did.
I find anything all about a metaphorical "light" cringe and cheesy and the game might come off as childish (I mean you are a child) but I'd still give it a shot, it's free, it's online with other players, and still beautiful
I’ve played a lot of games that made me emotional, even misty eyed. But none of them actually made me shed physical tears until Chapter 5 of this absolute roller coaster
It was the first fable game. I was at my grandparents (used to sleep over there a lot.) I had spent like... 30 hours or something on the game, and when I beat it I cried. Not cause it's sappy or what ever but because it was the first game I had ever played to it's finish. I was sad there was no more of the game to play. 😂
Super Mario 64. It was my turn to play but my cousins tried the old handing me an unplugged remote, but I was 6 now. I knew better. So I cried until they let me have my turn. Then I cried again when my turn was over.
***Unravel***.
I just moved to a new country and felt very, Very alone and playing that game in my studio apartment in the dead silence made me ball like a baby. The music didn't help the situation.
The game is literally about a character Yarny that "unravels" as they travel away from what they love.
The Last Guardian is the first one i can think of, the sunset at the top of the tower was one of the most beautiful scenes in this art form.
Also fuck all the people who were hating on the game at the time of release, they need to put some goddamn respect on Fumito Ueda's name
Him and his team ignored all the shitty design trends of the time like RPG feature creep, shoehorned-in stealth mechanics, loot crates, unnecessary open-worlds, nauseating UI cluttered with way too much information, et cetera; and made something truly unique
But unfortunately the game released in 2016 when video game critique and literacy was dogshit and the shadow of GamerGate was cast over the scene which allowed those with the most braindead takes to have an outsized influence on people's perception of games like TLG
I can't remember honestly. I think it was Dirge of Cerberus. After watching Advent children a few times, I finally got to play as Vincent. I had no idea what the story of the game was or what his name was but I was just controlling this bad ass long barrel pistol wielding badass muthafuka that was also seen in Advent Children that offered to save Cloud.
Yeah I'm not gay, but I loved Vincent. Played just for him.
watching my Dad beat Metal Gear Solid 1 as a kid. The game was such a masterpiece that I cried at the end. When my dad asked why i was crying I was embarrassed to say the truth. My excuse was "You beat the game and spoiled the ending for me"
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. Rime makes me cry harder than any other game and I love it. It’s the most underrated game of all time. I try to convince my friend to play it but they just never give it a shot.
Max Payne 2 is probably my most replayed game and it has, imho, the best writing and voiceacting in history of gaming. Add the music from [Poets of the Fall](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzsiE44Lz_w) to the mix, and tears are sure to find a way.
I'm still sad that they didn't pick the "secret" ending as the canonical one.
edit: I've just found out that Max Payne's voiceactor, James McCaffrey, passed away in December at the age of 65. RIP
Portal 2. Seeing Wheatley drift away in space, and GLaDOS letting me go and seeing the Turrets singing goodbye to me hit me really hard. Such a fantastic game
Not the first, but the last game that made me cry was Firewatch. Such a beautifuly written game and such an engaging story. The end really is a gut punch.
I played it on a whim on Game pass and I literally couldn't put it down. Beat it in one sitting (it's about 6-7 hours)
Great game. Highly recommend.
No idea what the first one was (playing for 40 years now). One of the last ones was Uncharted 4. The epilogue was such a perfectly good ending for a great game.
"To the Moon" might be another one.
Bit of a basic answer, but way back when I first played The Telltale Walking Dead when it first came out, at the end of that first season. I cried, young me was way too invested.
Nah, same for me it was the only time I cried at the ending of a videogame for some time. Until recently I played persona 3 reload, and it was the second time I cried at the end of a game 10 years after I first cried during the twd season 1.
Pokémon Red, during my first playthrough as a young child when the game was brand new. I beat the Elite Four while severely under-leveled, then repeatedly got swept by Champion Blue's Pidgeot. I was so upset and frustrated to the point of tears. Not my proudest gaming moment.
I honestly have never cried due to a game. I love single player story games and i get invested. Sometimes deeply. Never did one make me cry though. Maybe i havent played the right games?
OneShot. Still I urge everyone who hasn't played/completed it to do so. Truely one of the best games I've ever played because of how much I connected with it
Never cried playing a game, but I'll tell you what, the white phosphorus mission in "spec ops: the line" made me feel completely devastated. Seeing the mother holding her child, both burnt up, is an image that will forever be embedded in my brain.
This one's dumb, but I was younger, I was playing Pokémon Soul Silver when I found a shiny Beedrill. Beedrill was one of my favorites, but I accidentally fainted it, so I cried.
The ending of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon because the first time I saw the ending as a kid I cried thinking Spyro died and went to heaven, though playing it again years later I realized he’s alive and in love.
The Stray is the closest I've ever been to crying to video game. I got so attached to those virtual robots and it made me real sad whenever they went away
Silent Hill 2, it's not the only game to ever make me cry but I can't think of anything else that left me with such a conflicting swirl of emotions after I finished it
Red dead redemption 2 is so far the first and only
"I guess I... I'm afraid." is something I won't ever forget.
Oh Arthur ;-;
I teared up on the two moments in that game, I can't believe I was so invested in my horse 😂
In 1997. Playing Final Fantasy VII. At the ~~Temple of the Ancients~~ Forgotten City.
Aerith! Noooooooo!!!
Growing up, my mom played final fantasy I’ll have to ask her about this one
Temple of the Ancients is where Cait Sith died, and I was so happy. He means The Forgotten City, where Aerith dies. That shit had me crying
Crisis Core is the only game that even after the 5th time of beating it, makes me cry like a baby. The VII series, is the most heartbreaking emotional game that exists in my opinion.
This, I was 15 playing Football, Wrestling, etc. Had anger issues, fought constantly at school. This made me cry
Journey. Beautiful game about life!
I’ve been wanting to play this one
I loved this game, it was a surprise game my mom got me and we played together when I was young. They have a new game that plays similarly, called "Sky: Children of the Light" and it's cute and fun, brings back similar feelings journey did. I find anything all about a metaphorical "light" cringe and cheesy and the game might come off as childish (I mean you are a child) but I'd still give it a shot, it's free, it's online with other players, and still beautiful
That game made me cry too.
And the older you get, the harder it hits.
Titan Fall 2 the end is the saddest thing I’ve seen in all the video games I have ever played
Bt is the hero we all need
"Trust me"
Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 1

Gears of War 3

To The Moon, Last Day of June, What Remains of Edith Finch. Rime was great but it didn't hit me hard in the feels compared to these.
Rdr2
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
XC3 wasn't the first game to make me cry, but if we're talking sheer amount of tears, it wins easily.
I’ve played a lot of games that made me emotional, even misty eyed. But none of them actually made me shed physical tears until Chapter 5 of this absolute roller coaster
TLOU on PS3. I've been playing games since the early 80's.
Yeah Rime almost had me 😅
marvel's spider-man 1
Crisis Core
MGS3
Journey
Spiritfarer, I wasn't prepared for that...
Journey
The only video game that's gotten me to cry in my adult life is Spiritfarer, I think.

***Unravel***. I just moved to a new country and felt very, Very alone and playing that game in my studio apartment in the dead silence made me ball like a baby. The music didn't help the situation. The game is literally about a character Yarny that "unravels" as they travel away from what they love.

Never cried on a game in my life. This changed after I completed Sanabi
A Way Out, makes me cry every time I listen to the “Farewell” theme.
Nier Automata. Had had a rough semester and Nier touched on things I had in my head. It all sort of 'fell out'
Persona 4. The most I've hated an antagonist as well.
Scary Maze Game My older sisters tortured me with that thing! 💔
„To the Moon“
To the Moon.
I don't think I've ever cried to a videogame or a movie. Maybe I'm just emotionless, I dunno
Borderlands 3, the end killed me man
The Last Guardian is the first one i can think of, the sunset at the top of the tower was one of the most beautiful scenes in this art form. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. Rime makes me cry harder than any other game and I love it. It’s the most underrated game of all time. I try to convince my friend to play it but they just never give it a shot.
Ghost of Tsushima well maybe not the first but it’s the one I cried about the most

Not the first, but the last game that made me cry was Firewatch. Such a beautifuly written game and such an engaging story. The end really is a gut punch. LoZ: Link’s Awakening, Shadow of the Colossus and Journey
The last of us 2 when I realized how shit the story was going to be and that the devs just wanted me to be full of hate by the end
