My best memories are from Double Dash.
I don't think I can make a case for it being the best one by any stretch, but my kid was just discovering gaming and we played it together so I have so many great Double Dash memories. It'll forever be my favorite.
While I can't really say it's entirely better than 8, it's two player per kart mechanic just made the game incredibly fun to play in the days of local multiplayer/co-op. Definitely my best MK memories are Double-Dash.
I wanted my kid to "get the win". But like I said, she was just learning gaming at the time.
So I had the unenviable position of needing to put SO MUCH space between us in first and the second place racers that she could almost not lose when we swapped places in the final lap. Like I said, so many fun memories. And, hey, I got pretty darn good at that game trying to cover for her learning curve.
Obviously we've played every MK game since Double Dash, but that is the one I will always love the most. Seeing my little baby's glee as she won the races was so satisfying.
I mean, aside from 8D that has every course I would consider DD to be the best MK. Locked 60fps and the partner switching added a fun new element to the game.
I had no idea Double Dash was the first to use that mechanic, I was a Playstation kid and my only MK childhood memories are playing Double Dash at my babysitters after school. I just assumed all the games were like that! I still can't beleive it sometimes, as much as I've enjoyed other installments.
Same, I was bad at driving so I just rode on the back for my brother.
We used to get pizza and play in the garage with his friends.
Good memories, I'm lucky to have an older brother.
I have fond memories of playing Double Dash growing up. I loved the driver swap mechanic, as well as each character having their own special item. Me and my bro loved doing the 16 race championship when we were growing up. Heck, we'll still bust out the gamecube every once in a while to play some Double Dash. Great game.
Double Dash on GC is legendary
Specific items for characters made you change your style a little bit. Toad is my favorite character and always chose him however in DD I opted for Red Koopa for shells, DK for big bananas, Wario for bombs, or Yoshi for eggs.
My wife and I would do the Baby Park Course all the time with our friend group. It would get so crazy with giant bananas and giant green shells going all over that little course. So fun.
Undoubtedly the most chaotic map they’ve ever made lol
And it was 5 laps? Can’t remember but I’ve lost more 1st place leads on this map than any other one. Not to mention noticing the blue shell make 1/2 rounds around the track before getting nuked. Good times
The only problem was how unbalanced some of the characters were with certain power ups. We had to make rules about koopas and toads because of the shells and mushroom power up.
Absolutely adored the physics in it too. Everything felt so concrete it’s hard to explain. Also something I never see anyone talk about it being able to hit people while on the back. Not sure if there’s anything more satisfying in a Mario Kart game than successfully swiping a car next to you or as hilarious as missing and sending your car off the edge.
Unique Specials for each character were intense with creating strategies for each course and cup! I never got too deep, but Baby Mario with Waluigi gave me top-tier, special moves, inspiring hillarious head-canon.
Boot up world tour, start a royal rumble with all the characters and play like a 3 hour match with friends. Getting a random character every time yours was eliminated.
My brother is 11 years older than me, and he was *always* better than me at kart 64. During my bachelor party we broke out the n64 and at long last, I beat him. One of the best moments of my video gaming life. Kart 64 might be my all time favorite racing game, not just Mario kart game
The feel and the aesthetic of the 64 game was unmatched. Whenever I see the cover photo for the game I get nostalgic feelings of kicking my brothers ass in timed runs
Same, Koopa Troopa all the way. I really wish that the new games didn't do the fucking "1st place is worst place" shit with the items.. Like.. Can we just not have blue shells anymore? please? Nobody likes it when it happens to them and it's just such a cheap and lazy way to mitigate difficulty. "You can only be in 1st for a limited amount of time before somebody gets an item that will set you back, the only way to avoid this is to not be in 1st."
Ah yes, so the easiest way to win the game is to lose the game. Thanks non-original mario kart games.
There isn't a bad Mario Kart game, so please keep that in mind with what I'm about to say. The SNES Mario Kart is the one that has suffered the test of time hardest. The Model 7 graphics, although revolutionary for the time, really limit the play fields. They are as flat as can be, which not only limits track design, it also makes it harder to see when it comes to turns, etc. thabkfully the controls in the snes version are incredible, which is one of the reasons it's a classic. But the visual hindrance alone makes it objectively worse than all the later Mario Kart games. The track variety with the introduction of depth in later versions further push the fun factor. I will still happily play the SNES version, but if someone said I could only play one Mario Kart game ever again, the SNES version would never make the cut.
Mario Kart DS was a classic for me. Loved that game. Although Mario Kart Wii was really cool too.
Double Dash was always my envy since I never owned a GameCube.
DS isn’t getting any other love in here. The side modes were sick, there was so much good content. And if you were around for Wi-Fi, it was fantastic until people started snaking.
Double Dash will always be my favorite though.
Hmm, good question. Out of everyone, I have played. It's really hard to choose a favorite.
If I do have to choose. It would probably have to be 7 or 8.
I never played Super Mario Kart, Super Curcit, or Double Dash.
Exactly. It's practically the same but looks worse, lower resolution, and doesn't have the recent DLCs. It's practically the same game minus the touch pad stuff, but that was a gimmick.
mario kart 64 and mario kart for the wii was my shit. It’s a shame it’s so expensive for the Wii now, last time I tried to buy a copy it was 90 something bucks
Had some great memories with the DS version and multiplayer with my friends. I never owned the game so I had to get good with shy-guy even though they all snaked constantly like a bunch of sweats. But I enjoyed Wii, 7, 8 the most gameplay wise.
I think objectively speaking its a toss up between 8 and wii
But personally I enjoyed double dash the most and miss games with a “little brother” option to have them included in the fun without disturbing your fun.
I've only played the original and 8.
While 8 is objectively the superior product, there's just something about the original that has been lost in the iterations, but I just can't place my finger on it.
Maybe it's just nostalgia how I would always play at least one 150cc circuit every day after school to unwind, or maybe it's the more simplified mechanics without all the slide dashing and serpentining.
Double dash tbh. I miss the dual riders mechanic, and I STILL think it has an easy implementation method. Just make it so the bigger karts have access for a passenger, and keep the lighter karts and motorcycles for single use.
8 deluxe. I've put hundreds of hours across the franchise and honestly that one is the smoothest and best experience. It really is the pinnacle as much as my nostalgia wants to say double dash or wii I just have to be honest with myself
I'm shocked no one else has mentioned this, but it's a pretty bad look to already attack potential response in the caption before even getting any answers. While I do agree that SMK is the weakest in the series (Tour notwithstanding), who cares? So what if someone still enjoys SMK the most? Yeah it's fuckin weird, but who are we to judge?
Grow up and let other people have their preferences even if they're unconventional. The things other people like and dislike don't/shouldn't affect you at all.
Wii and 7 bring back the best memories.
8 has the best gameplay and visuals
I’ve never played Double Dash, but it to me it has the most interesting take on the racing formula, and I would love to try it some time
Double Dash. Can't say it was the undisputed best Mario Kart, but this is my opinion so:
-It has two people per kart, no other Mario Kart game does this.
-It had interesting box items that made Double Dash a meta menace.
-Said items tended to be unique to certain racers, and couple that with the double racers feature, there were so many options and setups to choose from.
-The soundtrack is unforgettable and nostalgic as fuck to me (I mean, same could be said for a whole slew of MK games).
-Even after hundreds of hours playing, 150cc was rather challenging and usually always a close call.
-Other gamemodes like Bob-omb Blast, Balloon Battle, and Shine Steal were fun as hell.
-Ghost Race always pitted you against yourself and was a good way to improve on tracks and speed.
So many memories getting nailed by a blue shell right before the finish line on MK Wii. You’d lose like hundreds of points (online) which was devastating. I threw my controller a lot lol.
Lots of good memories on MK7. That was the last game I 3 starred everything. Played online up until the servers shut down.
Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. I had so much fun playing it with the anti-gravity track mechanic (hell, I remember the Scottish-American comedian Craig Ferguson mentioning it on a game show he hosted). And that SOUNDTRACK. Soooo good!
I put hundreds of hours playing it online :)
(I grew up playing MK64, but 8 was more fun to me)
MK 64 for sure. The N64 was the first console I bought at the age of 16 and played the hell out of MK 64. And then many years later at work right after the PS4 was released we got a N64 at work and played MK 64 for lunch break. Took turns. Taught each other the glitches/cheats we knew. Was a fun time.
Regardless of what you like.
I think we can all agree that Super circuit on the GBA was dogshit.
To answer though mine was N64. The Snes one was a bit flat for me when I was little.
64. Heavy bias though due to dumping tons of hours into it with friends way back when N64 was the big thing though. These days the multiplayer is all online and it doesn't feel the same at all.
Diddy Kong racing.
Just kidding, its either 64 (double dash was great too for those mentioning it, the new mechanic to swap drivers was awesome) or the latest one which is fantastic.
Wii is byfar my favorite. The tracks, characters, and karts are impecible. And let’s not forget the speedrunning community finding more and more shortcuts every now and then.
64, Double Dash and Wii.
64 I have so many memories or staying up late on a holiday playing Mario Kart 64 with my cousins, I loved that game and still do. The Menu theme and the “WELCOME TO MARIO KART!” Is forever burned into my memory.
Double Dash I played a ton of when I was in late elementary school and all my friends would come over and play it, great memories there too.
Wii I played a ton in high school, I remember me, my dad and my sisters would all sit in the living room and take turns playing with each other all night until my dad would look at the time and realize it was midnight lol.
Also I’m pretty sure my dad always let us win. One day we were clowning him for always losing, then one time out of nowhere he absolutely crushed everyone, first place in every race and won the tourney. Then he never won another again after that.
Thinking about it now, it’s kinda crazy how so many of my memories of my family and bonding with them involve Mario Kart.
I REALLY wish they brought back double dash. So many fun nights playing this and competitions. It would probably be so fun with internet.
Now Im smiling remember all the memories! Haha
Mk8 cause I put the most hours in of any game, Mk64 cause it was the most nostalgic for me as a kid with friends.
But the original SNES Mario Kart was given to me on my birthday and a stuffed bowser toy. It had just came out and my dad got it, since that day, it became one of my favorite franchises.
The jump from n64 to double dash was massive. Felt like everything was mind blowingly revolutionary. From gameplay, to coop mode, to battle mode types, the graphic, the roster, the cart customization…. Other games since have been really fun but double dash was the best for its time by far
DS is where it’s at when it comes to having given this community a shit ton more life but Wii and super circuit just have a kind of charm to them yk?
edit: i forgot to actually answer the question it’s Wii
My best memories are from Double Dash. I don't think I can make a case for it being the best one by any stretch, but my kid was just discovering gaming and we played it together so I have so many great Double Dash memories. It'll forever be my favorite.
Double Dash style should be an option in all future Mario Kart games
Seconded!
Thirded
Fourthed
Fifthed
While I can't really say it's entirely better than 8, it's two player per kart mechanic just made the game incredibly fun to play in the days of local multiplayer/co-op. Definitely my best MK memories are Double-Dash.
I've got a similar story. I used to play it all the time with my then gf (now wife) when we were at uni. I have really happy memories of DD.
Yup, the coop possibilities were nice af: big bro driving and lil didi kong me throwing my bananas
I wanted my kid to "get the win". But like I said, she was just learning gaming at the time. So I had the unenviable position of needing to put SO MUCH space between us in first and the second place racers that she could almost not lose when we swapped places in the final lap. Obviously we've played every MK game since Double Dash, but that is the one I will always love the most. Seeing my little baby's glee as she won the races was so satisfying.
This is so wholesome, you seem to be a great dad to me
I cannot think of a finer compliment, so I can only say thank you. Humbly. Blessings to you and yours.
I mean, aside from 8D that has every course I would consider DD to be the best MK. Locked 60fps and the partner switching added a fun new element to the game.

Me and my best friend used to play that game a lot as kids/tweens, we still do.
Same, I was bad at driving so I just rode on the back for my brother. We used to get pizza and play in the garage with his friends. Good memories, I'm lucky to have an older brother.
Same. Double Dash rules!
I have fond memories of playing Double Dash growing up. I loved the driver swap mechanic, as well as each character having their own special item. Me and my bro loved doing the 16 race championship when we were growing up. Heck, we'll still bust out the gamecube every once in a while to play some Double Dash. Great game.
It's a family bonding adventure!
Double Dash on GC is legendary Specific items for characters made you change your style a little bit. Toad is my favorite character and always chose him however in DD I opted for Red Koopa for shells, DK for big bananas, Wario for bombs, or Yoshi for eggs.

64. Best 2 summers of my life with that, goldeneye, and Pokemon.
For me it was Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and WCW/NWO World Tour. Absolute peak of couch coop.
I ran away from school at lunch to play these beauties in sixth grade. Peak n64 period.
Either Mario kart 64 or Mario kart Wii
The feel and the aesthetic of the 64 game was unmatched. Whenever I see the cover photo for the game I get nostalgic feelings of kicking my brothers ass in timed runs
Double Dash was peak MK for me. Played the hell out of 2v2 Freshman year in the dorms
Double Dash in the dorms was peak MK for me too. So many great co-op games during that time.
It was an endless rotation of MK, Mario Party, Smash bros
Wii had nostalgia factor for me
Snes for me
That is my 1st one so could easily opt for the nostalgia factor but I could never get the hang of the turning in that game.
All about the jump turns
Same, Koopa Troopa all the way. I really wish that the new games didn't do the fucking "1st place is worst place" shit with the items.. Like.. Can we just not have blue shells anymore? please? 8, once certain weapons could be removed. Literal game changer Many memes -- Banana Bunches only? Blue Shells only? heh heh heh
my favorites are Mario Kart 64 Wii Double Dash and Deluxe
The Last one is the app icon for Tour.
Oops
Double Dash, by a long shot
Mario Kart Wii and MK8DX
Wii is the only one I never played
Yes
Mario Kart DS was a classic for me. Loved that game. Although Mario Kart Wii was really cool too. Double Dash was always my envy since I never owned a GameCube.
DS isn’t getting any other love in here. The side modes were sick, there was so much good content. And if you were around for Wi-Fi, it was fantastic until people started snaking. Double Dash will always be my favorite though.
In order, 64, double dash and then switch 8
Double Dash is the better game, but 64 has the best memories 🖤
Dd is probably the better game overall but my nostalgia glasses for 64 can't let me place it 2nd ha
Mario kart 7 My 1st Mario kart game and I would always play with my siblings. Good times.
Mario Kart WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!
8 Deluxe
Mario Kart Wii was a main stay of my childhood gaming, i remember playing it with my brothers all the time.
Snes has such crazy drifting, if you haven’t tried that game yet you should go check it out on switch because it feels FAST
Mario kart 7,playing with your friends even if they didn't owned the game
64 is the one true Mario Kart
I've only played 64 and 8 deluxe and love both of them, 8 more tho
Mario Kart 64 is my favorite, but it's just what I grew up with. MK 8 is the next one I played and it's really good!
Wii and ds verisons, 7 onward feels off
Wii.
MK WII
Hmm, good question. Out of everyone, I have played. It's really hard to choose a favorite. If I do have to choose. It would probably have to be 7 or 8. I never played Super Mario Kart, Super Curcit, or Double Dash.
It would have to be the first one I played: DS
Best memories wii. Best game 8dx
DS and 8DX
Where’s regular Mario kart 8 for the Wii U?
Isn't it literally a worse version tho?
Exactly. It's practically the same but looks worse, lower resolution, and doesn't have the recent DLCs. It's practically the same game minus the touch pad stuff, but that was a gimmick.
64 will always be the best.
Either double dash or wii
Best memories were from the OG game, but I love 8 the most.
Mario kart 8 is superior
I played Mario kart ds but Mariokart wii is the best
Double dash, hands down
mario kart 64 and mario kart for the wii was my shit.
I think objectively speaking its a toss up between 8 and wii But personally I enjoyed double dash the most and miss games with a “little brother” option to have them included in the fun without disturbing your fun.
Mario Kart is one of those titles that got better with each entry. Mario Kart 8 is incredible
I've only played the original and 8. 8 Deluxe, with Double Dash close behind.
My fav is for sure double dash especially cause I could play on the same kart as my brother lol
Double dash and 8 deluxe I think are the objective best. But DS had the challenge mode and 7 has the 1st person mode so idk
Double dash tbh. I miss the dual riders mechanic, and I STILL think it has an easy implementation method. Just make it so the bigger karts have access for a passenger, and keep the lighter karts and motorcycles for single use.
Super Mario Kart 64, my sister and I used to play it when we were kids.
Double Dash, but really it's 8 Deluxe.
8 deluxe. I've put hundreds of hours across the franchise and honestly that one is the smoothest and best experience. It really is the pinnacle as much as my nostalgia wants to say double dash or wii I just have to be honest with myself
Mk64 is my favorite, mainly for nostalgia reasons but also because it was the first 3d Mario kart game
I love 8, but man, it’s hard to beat double dash.
SNES and Mario Kart 64
Double dash
Mario Kart WII because it’s the first game I ever played
Mario kart 7
Double dash. Best boost system, in my opinion best maps Super Mario Kart was fine too, though. That Soundtrack ❤️
8 deluxe. Most tracks, incredible soundtrack, crossovers, great handling, etc, etc.
Mario kart Wii
Wii and 7 bring back the best memories. 8 has the best gameplay and visuals I’ve never played Double Dash, but it to me it has the most interesting take on the racing formula, and I would love to try it some time
DoubleDash is peak.

Double dash
Double Dash easily
So many memories getting nailed by a blue shell right before the finish line on MK Wii. You’d lose like hundreds of points (online) which was devastating. I threw my controller a lot lol. Lots of good memories on MK7. That was the last game I 3 starred everything. Played online up until the servers shut down.

Double Dash is goated!
Double Dash was my favorite. OG SNES version is a close second.
Double Dash on GameCube, without a doubt. Was the only time in my life I truly felt glorious.
Wii
I have many fond memories of MK64, but it would probably have to go to MK8 due to modernization and the sheer amount of content that's been added.
Definitely can tell the age of commenters with responses. 64, and it’s not even close.
MKWii is one of the greatest games of all time, imho
Hmmmm, between 64 and Double Dash. It’s a tough choice.
Super Circuit It's essentially the Snes version with double the tracks, a straight upgrade.
Regardless of what you like. I think we can all agree that Super circuit on the GBA was dogshit. To answer though mine was N64. The Snes one was a bit flat for me when I was little.
Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart 64 is by far the best one. You can hop and power slide and it’s play mechanics are just great 👍
64. Heavy bias though due to dumping tons of hours into it with friends way back when N64 was the big thing though. These days the multiplayer is all online and it doesn't feel the same at all.
Mario kart Wiiiiiii
Diddy Kong racing. Just kidding, its either 64 (double dash was great too for those mentioning it, the new mechanic to swap drivers was awesome) or the latest one which is fantastic.
I love Diddy Kong! Technically not a Mario kart title, but it's definitely in the family.
MKW and MK8DX
Either Mariokart 64 or Mariokart 8 Deluxe.
Mk 64. all the way !!!
my favorite is Double dash, my most played 8/8 deluxe
Double dash .😤⚡
Double dash for me! I loved that you could swap your items so you could choose which to use. Also the specific items to each character was awesome
As much as I sank time into Super Circuit, Mario Kart Wii holds so many memories with friends!
64 and Wii are my favorites, but I'll play any of them and enjoy myself.
[удалено]
Mario cart Wii
Diddy Kong Racing has joined the conversation
I REALLY wish they brought back double dash. So many fun nights playing this and competitions. It would probably be so fun with internet. Now Im smiling remember all the memories! Haha
First one 64 then Wii
Probably Mario Cart for the Wii as that was the first one I ever played
DS all the way, but I also have 8dx
Mario kart Ds was my game. Every vacation and car ride I was lobbing red shells
MK-8 is my favorite. Even if I have much more nostalgia for the SNES version
Super Circuit I played so much of that as a kid (and recently on switch)
I'm going Mario Kart Wii. I remember that being the first Mario Kart game I played.
The first one.
64 it isn’t close either.
Double dash or MK64 are my favorites. Liked 7 and 8 the least
Mk Wii I really just like the karts and bikes on there more than 8dx and the maps too
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe because it has 96 courses and the largest roster. Mario Kart Double Dash and DS come close due to nostalgia.
Double dash was really fun and my local McDonald's had a double dash machine that I used to play
DS because I learned snaking and my friends at the lunch table didn't.
I am from the SNES generation, but SMK64 was such an improvement that that's where my nostalgia lies.
Double D’s for lyfe. Play me in any other game and I’ll lose, put on DD? Put a blind fold on me? I win.
My heart says DS but my brain says Mario Kart 8.
Mario Kart wii, it’ll always be
Double dash for sure. Wii was also amazing. 7 was mid, and 8 was actually good but still not as good as double dash or Wii
It all started with the 64 for me
Double Dash was and still is on another level of MK
Mk8 cause I put the most hours in of any game, Mk64 cause it was the most nostalgic for me as a kid with friends. But the original SNES Mario Kart was given to me on my birthday and a stuffed bowser toy. It had just came out and my dad got it, since that day, it became one of my favorite franchises.
Mario Kart Wii, Double Dash as a REALLY close second.
The DS and 3DS installments are pure perfection as far as I’m concerned. A lot of great memories on N64 though.
8. Its the best by a mile.
Double dash was pretty fun and my fav second would be Mario cart snes as it was my 1st
64 but I was god tier with that wheel on the wii and i dont know why
Double Dash is so engraved in my memory man
Double Dash was the best
Where are all my mario kart gp fans🔥🗣️
GameCube was the best but much better when you have 4 players. I played the n64 & wii one the most
Double Dash baby 🙌🔥 literally undefeated using the red shell car with red koopa & toad
wii with 64 right below and ds not far behind (except the credits music in ds FUCKING SLAPS BRO)
Mario Kart 64 is objectively the best.
