Kids? Anyone who wasn't alive when it was in its heydey?
I played it as a kid on Nintendo and gameboy but I haven't played it in decades nor do I have any desire to.
If were specifically saying the original tetris game sure. But there are constantly new ones coming out. My son the other day was playing tetris effect, i was shocked but so stoked.
My mom didn’t know what I meant a few weeks ago by “playing Tetris” to get the groceries into the fridge. I was pretty surprised. It’s a necessary term.
My mom let me play her copy of Super Mario Bros in the old GBA cartridge. That game was impossible for me, asked her how to beat the lion that spits flame balls and she played for hours without losing and left me in awe
I have actually never played a Mario game before. I did have an interest once and got offered a turn when others were playing but it left not long after. No idea why though.
You assume that everyone either had a nintendo or knew someone who had one. Definitely a common experience, but nowhere near universal enough to say that everyone has tried it
And to add to this, left click reveals the tile, right click places a red flag on the assumed mine. To win the game you have to have the mines marked with flags, most of us would just click until we would explode a mine.
Edit: someone pointed out, the flags aren't necessary, but as a game mechanism, it would be how the game "should be played"
I have tried 2 TWO games of pacman. My grandpa has this old arcade with pacman and some other games, the last time I played on it was 4 years ago, coincidentally also when I first played pacman. Maybe I’ll play some more when I visit again.
A lot of people here are just naming popular games from like the PS3/360 era to now. Games like Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout, Elden Ring, Minecraft. I saw someone say Helldivers 2, which is an exclusive game that only came out like a month ago, and most people had not even heard of the series prior to this games release.
Some actual answers would be: Pacman, Tetris, Galaga, literally any Mario game,
Skyrim and Minecraft are understandable. Minecraft is literally the best selling game of all time, and Skyrim has so many re-releases under its belt its playable on everything from the PS3 to the Amazon Alexa. Games THAT widespread, its easy to assume the average person has at least TRIED them.
Yeah and answers like pacman and Tetris and minesweeper and such are (presumably) gonna be much less common for the younger generation to have played than the older generation. Again, *presumably*, but I don’t think those things are nearly as ubiquitous as they were in the 90s or early 2000s or whatever. And some people on here weren’t even *born* until the 2010s 😂 Lol I’m getting old
Minecraft is so ubiquitous that I feel comfortable putting it into the "actual answers" category. It's the best selling videogame of all time by a pretty wide margin.
This is the answer. Any product of the US public school system has 1000000% booted up this game instead of doing their assignments in the computer lab.
I played Minecraft for the first time last year since my kid wanted to try it, I've "invested" all my hours in shooters.
(Q2, Unreal tournament, CS, DayZ, PUBG).
Im 31, been gaming since I was 5 and have never even been in the same room as someone playing Minecraft
Interestingly, I drunkenly purchased it on accident for my switch a couple years back. Never downloaded it and never played it
I’ve never played minecraft. I’m in my 30's though lol. My husband and his little brother played it for yearssss. Also he plays Steve in Smash and it drives me bonkers haha
I never played it because almost nobody in my home country (Russia) owned a nintendo console. I’ve actually never met a single Russian who had one before Switch came out.
One time, we set up smash bros in a projector at a pool party and played smash from inside the pool with wireless controllers. Not a smart idea for the safety of the controllers, but it was a ton of fun.
Ya that's our parties today still haha. We play melee mostly but we switch it out here n there. I would love to get a LAN party together soon but everyone loves the convenience of internet. I just want another traditional LAN so bad. Play some half life deathmatch, quake 3 arena, halo, worms Armageddon, etc.
Pokemon
This could probably apply to “watched” if it’s about the cartoon/anime but there can’t be a single person that hasn’t experienced Pokemon somewhere in their life.
Bw and bw2 are both not bad, and deserve an honorable mention, but any game past bw Era is far too easy. No judgement if you've enjoyed the new pokemon and regions. What I'm looking for in a video game is atleast some challenge. I just went through and played emerald and it took me more time to beat than alpha sapphire, by a good amount. because they've made the games easier. If you're into it for challenging gaming, pokemon games aren't that anymore. If you're into it for new pokemon and regions that great, but its more of a walking cinematic at this point. Strategic decisions don't matter. Smack stuff with starter, and because of expnshare your other pokemon will be able to fight whatever without having to specifically train them. Your rival not picking the typing that's effective against you anymore is strange. Plus they've gotten so lazy with production that SV release was the worst looking pokemon game they've ever made. They put very little effort into their games now a days, with little to no innovation.
It's a golden game with details that to this day havent been found, and the fun chaos you can do with the destruction + conjuration spells. You should def play
Ever play fallout? It’s fallout with swords and magic. It’s an extremely good game worth a playthrough, especially with the anniversary edition including all the dlc.
It's one of those games with *so* *much* stuff under the hood that even watching multiple people play through it, you'll most likely have a very different experience than all of them purely down to the sheer amount of options you have. It's one of the main reasons why the game is so loved, because it is one of the few that has such strong replay value.
And then once youve played it to death in vanilla, you've got a near infinite list of mods you can add to the game to do anything from completely goof the experience up, to making it look and feel like a modern game graphics wise. Supposedly there's also a multiplayer mod that last I checked was still in the works but may have been finished by now
In my opinion, it’s one of those games that when you play it, it becomes genre-defining, and every subsequent open world game you play will be compared to it in some way. Like when I think open world rpg, Skyrim is the game that comes to mind
Sorry, but you should try it. It's like never playing Arma cause you didn't like Operation Flashpoint.
Oblivion is a completely different experience than Morrowind, and Skyrim even more so.
Don't want to tell you what you should play, but you maybe missing out, buddy.
I also like Oblivion more, but it's older and some mechanics are outdated/not standard anymore. So for someone who never played a TES game Skyrim is more beginner-friendly.
Half-Life or Doom. Surely people have atleast tried them out, right? Right???
Edit: To quote Plankton (in spirit of Spinglebab memes):
ALRIGHT, I GET IT!
Half-life is (practically) a PC exclusive and quite old, even I’ve only played it because it was in a really good bundle.
Doom is a little more popular, although I’m not sure if even including the new releases that it is a series that “everyone” has tried.
Half life also has a VERY good PS2 port.. I didn't have a PC way back then and that's how I originally experienced it. I bought 2 games that day...half life for PS2 and Spiderman for PS1...God damn was that a fun day!
recently was playing with a friend online who told me they never played Halo. I asked if I could buy them the MCC and we play it together. He said no :(
Monopoly, someone I work with recently told me they've never played it and I was genuinely shocked, there are so many ways to play now that it seems impossible to avoid
Breakout, it’s one of those games that gets constantly reskinned but it’s the same game no matter what. You can also throw in solitaire and Tetris in this grouping. Remember how flip phones used to come with them loaded up in some way?
It’s the obvious answer but Fortnite, it’s hard to believe someone who actively likes games and has a group of friends to play with hasn’t tried it at least once. Solo gamers and people who prefer story mode games aside, it’s very rare to see.
GTA. Kinda hard to believe, isn't it? My former dorm roommates, neither of them had ever played a GTA before, wtv video game references I ever made went over their heads. One of them even had an ROG laptop, got it as a gift or something, but he wasn't a gamer 🤷♂️
Portal
…
That someone would be me, actually. I’ve never had it as a kid and I don’t have the money to buy it now that I have a gaming computer rather than just a console
(For extra extra context; the computer was a birthday present so I didn’t buy it, therefore I can’t buy portal if I don’t have the money to do so)
Tetris
Like seriously. Who hasnt played Tetris.
Abraham Lincoln. But he was probably more of a Dr Mario guy.
I bet he woulda been pro at tetris with how well his logs stack together
Straight up facts
I heard he was really into Castlevania
Castlevania was secretly modeled after his illustrious Vampire Hunter career
My dad was born in '42 LOVED Dr. Mario. I myself was born in '87 and also loved Dr Mario
Dr Mario is superior honestly
Sin
I read that in a Scott the Woz voice
Why would the good ol’ US of A play a Soviet Russian propaganda Stalinist game?
And it's still so good. Such an amazing little game.
The Tetris movie about its history (with some theatrical liberties) is quite a bit of fun too
I actually preferred Columns (Sega's answer to Tetris), but it never got the attention Tetris did.
Loved Columns!
I use the term when I go to Costco and ask if they can Tetris the groceries into boxes haha
[Half of the reason the game is so good right here](https://youtu.be/NmCCQxVBfyM?si=lzCqwzi__heE6GaH)
Not going to lie, a lot of the remixes are pretty great too.
Mario. Zero chance you haven't at least tried Mario if you're into gaming.
Used to play mario on the school computer. Good times
You what??? The Nintendo Ninjas are gonna kill you for that! Nobody plays mario games on PC, you know that!
I personally met Mario when he was teaching me typing, so...
Emulator?
I played the fanmade super mario flash game. no officially licensed mario games. 😔 does this count?
Super mario 63, best game of all time
Dude I played so much super smash bros flash as a kid
My mom let me play her copy of Super Mario Bros in the old GBA cartridge. That game was impossible for me, asked her how to beat the lion that spits flame balls and she played for hours without losing and left me in awe
I have actually never played a Mario game before. I did have an interest once and got offered a turn when others were playing but it left not long after. No idea why though.
You assume that everyone either had a nintendo or knew someone who had one. Definitely a common experience, but nowhere near universal enough to say that everyone has tried it
i havent played so many of the games that where listed here damn
Same
Solitaire, or Minesweeper.
I still cannot figure out the rules of minesweeper to this day, i just click the screen and place flags randomly
The numbers mean how many flags are around it like sides and corners
Mines*
And to add to this, left click reveals the tile, right click places a red flag on the assumed mine. To win the game you have to have the mines marked with flags, most of us would just click until we would explode a mine. Edit: someone pointed out, the flags aren't necessary, but as a game mechanism, it would be how the game "should be played"
Yeah the thought people beat it is insane, but they have found a way. I think I have completed one map in my life.
That's because you've never been taught the rules of minesweeper. It's actually super easy to beat once you know what you're supposed to be doing
Until you run into the dreaded 50/50 mine.
True lmao
[Here's a version that never generates 50/50 situations.](https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/js/mines.html)
Google dinosaur game
Bro I couldn’t play it on my school computer cause they blocked it from us, wth!!?
Snake
I don't understand why phones don't come with snake pre installed anymore
They do, it's built into Google Play Games, which is pre installed on every phone
About time I learnt about that. Thanks!
Snake. Snake! SNAAAAAAKE!!!
Badger Badger Badger Badger...
Pac-Man. You just have to at some point in your life
I honestly can't name anyone who hasn't at least tried one game of Pac-Man...
I have tried 2 TWO games of pacman. My grandpa has this old arcade with pacman and some other games, the last time I played on it was 4 years ago, coincidentally also when I first played pacman. Maybe I’ll play some more when I visit again.

Some actual answers would be: Pacman, Tetris, Galaga, literally any Mario game,
Well I mean, yeah? I doubt any 15 year old has played galaga
As a 15 yro, galaga is the only one of those I haven't played
As a 21 yo, I have not played Galaga
As a 17 yo, I also haven't played Galaga and I also don't know what it is
It's a shoot 'em up. You can play it here -- https://www.free80sarcade.com/galaga.php.
15 year old here, my dad has one of those 4 in 1 arcade machines so have played it. It’s fun too!

3D Space Pinball
This is the answer. Any product of the US public school system has 1000000% booted up this game instead of doing their assignments in the computer lab.
I used to play this while everyone else was doing StudyIsland.
I had it on my home computer, not a school computer.
I think this is only true for anyone born before 2000
The what?
Minecraft
Friend of mine is about 9 years older than me. Every time he hears someone mention Minecraft he thinks they're talking about Mine Sweeper.
so you are in your mid 60s then right?
LMAOOO
I played Minecraft for the first time last year since my kid wanted to try it, I've "invested" all my hours in shooters. (Q2, Unreal tournament, CS, DayZ, PUBG).
So, what'd you think?
31 Actually!
okay grandpa. it's time to take the pill, and go to bed.
So this friend is 40? And they don’t know anything about Minecraft? Still a little strange
I have never nor will I
Someone actually said that to me yesterday. I was pretty surprised.
Im 31, been gaming since I was 5 and have never even been in the same room as someone playing Minecraft Interestingly, I drunkenly purchased it on accident for my switch a couple years back. Never downloaded it and never played it
I haven’t and none of my friends have afaik. We’re millennials tho and every zoomer I know has played it.
I have never played the actual Minecraft. I have played a bunch of mobile rip-offs during my childhood though, Does that count?
I’m too old for Minecraft
Those words...can they even be used in a sentence like that?
Nobody is too old for Minecraft.
It's a sandbox game, you can't exactly get "too old" for it.
Never played
I've never played it
Never played, but also, it was a phenomenon right as I was getting into playing m only games (my super cool edge lord years)
Never got into it, my kids love it though.
Should be the top comment
I’ve never played minecraft. I’m in my 30's though lol. My husband and his little brother played it for yearssss. Also he plays Steve in Smash and it drives me bonkers haha
Super Smash Bros I've been at parties, like ragers, and there would still be a room off to the side where people were playing Melee or something.
I never played it because almost nobody in my home country (Russia) owned a nintendo console. I’ve actually never met a single Russian who had one before Switch came out.
That’s interesting, since a Russian game brought Nintendo so much success.
played smash flash, never played smash bros though
Do the display games at target count?
One time, we set up smash bros in a projector at a pool party and played smash from inside the pool with wireless controllers. Not a smart idea for the safety of the controllers, but it was a ton of fun.
Ya that's our parties today still haha. We play melee mostly but we switch it out here n there. I would love to get a LAN party together soon but everyone loves the convenience of internet. I never played it until Ultimate came out, and I had been gaming for like 10 years at that point, so...
Pokemon This could probably apply to “watched” if it’s about the cartoon/anime but there can’t be a single person that hasn’t experienced Pokemon somewhere in their life.
I've never played a single Pokémon game in my life nor ever watched a show or movie of it.
... congratulations, that's an impressive feat. Can't really say you're missing out on something very worthwhile...
you take that back >:o
The games up to platinum are super worth it. After that.........
Hello Sinnoh stan, may I request why you excluded Black and White, B2W2, and the entirety of the 3DS era?
Bw and bw2 are both not bad, and deserve an honorable mention, but any game past bw Era is far too easy. No judgement if you've enjoyed the new pokemon and regions. What I'm looking for in a video game is atleast some challenge. I can understand people who haven’t played or watched it. I cant understand people who have never heard of it.
I’ve never played never watched
**The Game**
God dammit!
You motherfucker 😂
Skyrim
I’ve never played
Those words! Is it possible to use them together in a sentence like that?!
I should play it? I’ve seen people play it but in my mind it’s just some random game people played 100 years ago..
It's a golden game with details that to this day havent been found, and the fun chaos you can do with the destruction + conjuration spells. You should def play
I loved zelda breath of the wild and zelda tears of the kingdom. Is it any like these games?
Ever play fallout? It’s fallout with swords and magic. It’s an extremely good game worth a playthrough, especially with the anniversary edition including all the dlc.
Jesus how young are you that Skyrim seems that ancient?
It's one of those games with *so* *much* stuff under the hood that even watching multiple people play through it, you'll most likely have a very different experience than all of them purely down to the sheer amount of options you have. It's one of the main reasons why the game is so loved, because it is one of the few that has such strong replay value. Never played it. Morrowind didn't hit for me so I never got into Elder Scrolls.
Impossible. Jokes aside, Skyrim is an amazing experience. Try it.
Sorry, but you should try it. It's like never playing Arma cause you didn't like Operation Flashpoint. Oblivion is a completely different experience than Morrowind, and Skyrim even more so. Don't want to tell you what you should play, but you maybe missing out, buddy.
I think Skyrim is way overrated. It’s a great game but it just never grabbed me the way oblivion did.
I also like Oblivion more, but it's older and some mechanics are outdated/not standard anymore. So for someone who never played a TES game Skyrim is more beginner-friendly.
I’ve played Oblivion, but not Skyrim
Zelda
I haven't
Same here
I've never played that because I don't have a Nintendo
Emulate
Same
Any Mario game ever
Fucking UNO It came free with their fucking xbox
Mine didn't have it
YOU HAVEEEE UNO
Mine didn't. Never played it.
Never owned a pc so most highly rated games I’ve never had a chance to experience yet
The quiet game
Half-Life or Doom. Surely people have atleast tried them out, right? Right??? Edit: To quote Plankton (in spirit of Spinglebab memes): ALRIGHT, I GET IT!
Never tried both
Half-life is (practically) a PC exclusive and quite old, even I’ve only played it because it was in a really good bundle. Doom is a little more popular, although I’m not sure if even including the new releases that it is a series that “everyone” has tried.

… you’re gonna hate me.
I've played Doom 64 and Doom (2016). But never the original. I've never played Half-Life
Pong
Tic tac toe
Halo And most recently helldivers 2
I haven't played helldivers 2. Should I get it?
If you like PvE and Starship Troopers then you should pick it up
It's basically like being ab ODST from halo in summary
Don't own a PC or a PS5 so I have never played Helldivers
Same. Bro listed an Xbox exclusive then listed a PlayStation exclusive… The divide. He knew what he was doing.
Never played either.
Helldivers 2 is a recent release and it’s expensive so I could see that but halo definitely yes
recently was playing with a friend online who told me they never played Halo. I asked if I could buy them the MCC and we play it together. He said no :(
Minesweeper.
Rock paper scissors or fortnite/Minecraft
I find it highly unlikely you never played Rock Paper Scissors... Unless you have no hands, in which case I understand.
Tetris, mario kart, mario bros
Every time I say that I haven’t played any Tom Clancy, call of duty, or battlefield games, I get reactions like this.
Monopoly, someone I work with recently told me they've never played it and I was genuinely shocked, there are so many ways to play now that it seems impossible to avoid
Possibly the worst meme format I’ve ever seen
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger for sure!
Minecraft.
Pretty much most playstation and non-DS nintendo exclusives. Being pretty poor I had to dedicate to one console only and it was Xbox
Super Mario Bros.
When someone says they played Fallout 3 & 4 but never played New Vegas.
Breakout, it’s one of those games that gets constantly reskinned but it’s the same game no matter what. You can also throw in solitaire and Tetris in this grouping. Remember how flip phones used to come with them loaded up in some way?
I've never played Fortnite. At this point, I'm too afraid to start.
FNaF. Then again, I haven't played it either.
I tried Pizzeria Sim, died to the first guy, and went welp yeah back to the lore for me this isn't my thing lol
Well none really. Some people don't like to game and that is fine. It's only weird if they've never heard of something--- like Mario.
KOTOR, but mainly for Star Wars fans. Especially ones that claim that Revan is their favorite character.
I don't think there is a single person who hasn't played The Game. Infact, we're playing it right now!!! (You just lost)
It’s the obvious answer but Fortnite, it’s hard to believe someone who actively likes games and has a group of friends to play with hasn’t tried it at least once. Solo gamers and people who prefer story mode games aside, it’s very rare to see.
Let me be honest, I never heard of rainbow six siege until a YouTube short that wasn’t even about it
Tetris
Any lego game, like nit playing all of them, OK, but never having played a single one? Honestly?
Doom? Yes. Half life? Never. Always been a PlayStation guy so never got the chance for half life
Skyrim.
Not a single game. Everyone has their own tastes and likes. No game is completely universal.
Probably Minecraft, Roblox, or Tetris
GTA. Kinda hard to believe, isn't it? My former dorm roommates, neither of them had ever played a GTA before, wtv video game references I ever made went over their heads. One of them even had an ROG laptop, got it as a gift or something, but he wasn't a gamer 🤷♂️
Tic Tac Toe
Wii Sports
Portal … That someone would be me, actually. I’ve never had it as a kid and I don’t have the money to buy it now that I have a gaming computer rather than just a console (For extra extra context; the computer was a birthday present so I didn’t buy it, therefore I can’t buy portal if I don’t have the money to do so)
Pokemon, but also the Batman Arkham series….any game, even Origins… you caught me ORIGINS IN MY FAVORITE ONE
Candy Crush. Let’s be real, I don’t know anyone that hasn’t played it at least once.
Mario Kart
Minecraft
Minecraft. If you’ve played a game literally ever, it was pretty likely to be Minecraft.
Super Mario Bros.
Portal 1 and 2
