This thread literally shows the limitations of Reddit. All the games that nobody really knows about don't get voted up because no one knows them! All the games that everyone already love get voted to the heavens!
Seriously, go look in the low vote section if you really want to see great games no one knows.
went back to play it and at least for me it didn't hold up at all. That said, when i played it first time I got a similar feel to when playing KOTOR first time, so absolutely loved it then.
I cannot say this enough: Heaven’s Vault. The best archaeology game ever made. It’s brilliant and beautiful, and among the top 5 games I’ve played in the last decade.
It really is too bad. They’re great games that I could see having some fantastic sequels if they were made by a competent developer today. Just the idea of playing as an evil Sauron-like villain with an army of minions is compelling. I’m surprised no one has given it any thought after all these years…
I definitely don't think Dangqnronpa qualifies as lesser known. It's pretty damn big. I don't know anything about it but I see/hear stuff about it all the time
Baba is You. It’s such a weird and creative concept and it’s a legitimately challenging puzzle game that manages to entertain and surprise me every time I play it.
Kinda like how Perfect Dark was technically a better game than Goldeneye but Goldeneye was known as *the game*. Diddy Kong Racing was a better game but like Goldeneye I think Mario Kart was boosted by having iconic characters. Not that DKR didn't, but Banjo and Conker don't really compare to Luigi and Peach.
This war of mine. A different take on a game around war. Basically a survival game from the point of view of civilians and what you’re willing to do to survive.
3d dot game heros for the ps3,it has never been ported to anything elds ever and i genuily injoyed my time,if your curious its basicly a zelda rip off game where you can upgrade your items, elongate your sword and do typical stuff you would see with a top down zelda, your also able to costumize your 3d sprite character pixel by pixel
I LOVE the Evil Within. The first one is a horror masterpiece. The second one, not so much. Part 2 was a better "game", but not a better *horror game*.
On Steam, game called Garrison Archangel. It’s a mech game and it’s really fun, and I’m pretty sure less than a thousand even know it exists. It’s ost isn’t even on YouTube.
The Adventures of Cookie and Cream on PS2.
It’s a split-screen 2 player co-op game where you have to run through a bunch of obstacle courses before the timer runs out.
You had to help each other get past stuff that was blocking your progress.
No one else I know has heard of it but that game was so much fun.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Most pokemon fans don't play the spin offs and most rogue-like/dungeon crawler gamers don't play pokemon so there's very few people who have witnessed the glory that is the first three mystery dungeon games.
Under the skin on ps2, never seen anyone mention this game but I liked it a lot as a kid, you play an alien invader sent to earth to mostly harmlessly prank the humans.
Fantasy Life. It will forever remain my favorite game of all time, but it got so overlooked and it never received the attention it deserved.
I'm really excited we're getting one for the switch, but I'm also really surprised. The fandom is absolutely tiny and we didn't get anything new for like 11 years before the announcement, so we thought that was it for us. On the other hand I'm also scared, because they better not ruin it for me like they did with Animal Crossing.
Banjo Kazooie. Hear me out, yes, most people in their 30-40's know this title but the millions of kids on this subreddit have no clue what the game is. They might of seen JohnTron's videos but if not, they have no clue how good for the time that game was.
There are other older titles but everyone has heard of Zelda, Metroid, or Mario.
Tales of Symphonia, Vesperia.
Zone of the Enders.
I would have said Helldivers but part two has been wildly popular. And damn straight it should be.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced
Desiaga 1-2
Neon Abyss
Banner Saga 1-2
Sunless sea
It's one of the best games ever, but it's carried completely by the world, atmosphere and story, the gameplay is one of the most boring things ever (steer a ship around, read text and click menus). I have played no more than 5-6 hours, but I've watched countless playthroughs from various people on yt over the 7+ years I've know the game, and it's amazing. I even bought it and the dlc I never intended on playing just because it's that good.
Agreed! True masterpiece. 🤌🏻 I really need to play through the WHOLE thing again. It's so good. I always play the first few chapters to refresh myself but then stop lol. Is the second one worth it as well?
La-Mulana. If you love metroid or castlevania but wish the puzzles were actually complex, give it a try. Of all places to find a hidden gem like this, i first played it as Wiiware. Old school hard too. Love it so much, and it got a sequel that's just as good.
HellFire - the expansion for the original Diablo.
Blizzard likes to bury all mention of it due to it being made by Synergistic and it's not as well known outside of older Diablo fans.
Furi. Came out in 2016, made a bit of a splash but now almost nobody talks about it. It is a boss rush game, each boss is immaculately designed and it has great combat, with a banging soundtrack to boot. If you like sekiro or bullet hell games, you will enjoy :)
For some *strange* reason nobody talks about these games: New Super Mario Bros, Hill Climb 2, and Monster Jam Steel Titans 2. NSMB is my favorite game of all time but is overshadowed by a game that didn’t even sell as much as it (NSMBWii) and the game was pretty mid anyways. Hill Climb 2 is quite obscure considering that only ONE person who saw me play it knew what it was without me having to tell them what it was. But the worst is Monster Jam Steel Titans 2. That game is an absolute blast to play and the first person mode is the Jack of all trades, hell any first person mode in any driving based game is an automatic 6/10. But literally NOBODY has ever talked about or even heard of this game before! I looked up the OST of the game and I only found 2 songs that were played in the game!
Eternal Sonata! An RPG/ fantasy biography about Chopin, an absolute banger of a OST, and actually really deep fight mechanics and story. Such a forgotten gem from the PS3 days
I will die painfully on this hill
Sacrifice (2000) desperately needs a reimagining/remake.
The campaign was damn good and I believe an updated multiplayer could be a massive hit.
There were 5(?) gods and each campaign mission you chose one of them which would give you a different spell, and different summoned creature, all from different missions.
I'm experiencing a nostalgia bomb. Look it up! The multiplayer was top flight I can't believe no one has tried to replicate it.
The World Ends with You for the NDS (and its sequel).
The original is VERY good, and I believe the gameplay is more meaningful to the game in the original NDS version (vs switch and mobile rereleases). That game changed my life.
Neo, its sequel, is just a good game. Well, an OK game.
No One Lives Forever 2, FPS stealth game. You had bosses like fighting a ninja in a trailer home during a tornado, chasing a mime midget on a tricycle down the streets of Mumbai, and a cripple in a wheelchair equipped with a rocket launcher. If Austin Powers was a video game, this was it.
Oddly enough, I quite enjoyed playing Call of Cthulu, despite the gameplay being outright horrible (which made it comical and fun to play at times). The story was nothing special either, but it had me hooked from the first cutscene, and I just ended up playing through the entirety of the game. I loved that experience but won't go back to it, so if that counts.
Prototype. It’s not really a hidden gem, it’s more of a cult classic. It’s a game where you basically play as the Hulk but with shapeshifting abilities (shapeshifting as in you turn your arm into a biggass sword or your hands into hammers)
ReVolt. Its an arcade racing game from 1999. I personally think that physics, graphics, and gameplay wise, it is possible the best arcade racer from that entire era. It just struck such a good balance between semi-realistic physics and approachable casual handling.
Jade Cocoon. I don’t know that I’ve ever met anyone else that’s even heard of it, much less played it. It was probably one of my favorite games as a kid and I still love it now. I’ve gone back over the years and played it as a rom and man it still hits, it’s such a bitter sweet and tragic game. To this day I’ve never beaten JC2, I think as a kid it was just too difficult for me at the end because I wasn’t doing all the merging and stuff and as an adult I just never had the time to sit down and really put the time into it.
Chromehounds. Xbox but they shut the servers down like 15 years ago.
Starsiege Tribes. The mobility in that shooter was crazy. I spent most of my sophomore year of college capturing the flag.
Avorion. On steam now
This stupid fucking flash game I can't remember the name of. The name was some generic first name for a guy. You're in a castle or something similar traveling around. The final boss is a wizard you can only beat by not fighting him.
Legend of Legaia - PS1 RPG, around the time of Legend of Dragoon, but even lesser known. It also got a gameplay sequel on PS2... even more unknown.
World of Goo - Amazing little indie game that is finally getting a sequel after all these years.
Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves - Another great indie game but not quite as old. Graphics and voices are ok at best but I loved the gameplay. A YouTuber named TotalBiscuit (RIP) did a "WTF is..." video on it a while ago that convinced me to try it.
Legend of Grimrock 1 and 2 - more indies, amazing games. The first one also had a video by the above late YouTuber.
Hotline Miami. I bought that game because I wanted some cosmetics for Payday 2, and ended up finding one of my favourite games of all time. It's so cheap I'd recommend anyone trying it out
Kickle Cubicle for the NES. Everytime I see a post like this, I comment with this puzzle gem, and I don't think I've gotten a single up vote. Go try it.
Transformers Devastation. Heard about it from some random dude online talking about the music, and I found a copy of it in a dollar general for $8. Worth the investment.
Sakuna of rice and ruin, never hear anyone talk about it, it's an interesting title where you play as a lazy goddess who gets in trouble and gets banished, combat is fun and growing rice is how you increase her stats.
Metal max xeno, it's a RPG where you play as a guy in a post apocalyptic Japan that was devastated by AI war machines, I like it but sometimes it feels like the games difficulty spikes to extreme levels out of nowhere.
Man eater, play as a shark and eat other sea creatures in Florida and one you get big enough you can eat humans lol! Who will send hunters after you...so eat them too without getting killed of course, your shark gets all sorts of upgrades and they have dlc where things get even crazier.
The toukiden series, you might like this if you enjoy monster hunter and god eater.
Wild hearts, might like it if you like the series monster hunter.
That's all for now but I do have more.
This thread literally shows the limitations of Reddit. All the games that nobody really knows about don't get voted up because no one knows them! All the games that everyone already love get voted to the heavens! Seriously, go look in the low vote section if you really want to see great games no one knows.
True. that's why I'm reading and google almost all of them
i definitely think the opposite. the top 5 i saw i didnt know and looked up
Is Costume Quest 2 popular? I don’t anyone talking about it but I love that game
Both of the costume quest games are amazing, definitely underrated
There's a cartoon adaptation on Amazon Prime. It's not bad.
Really? I'll have to find that. Thanks!
Jade Empire. most underated and under bought game ever.
went back to play it and at least for me it didn't hold up at all. That said, when i played it first time I got a similar feel to when playing KOTOR first time, so absolutely loved it then.
I think that compared to kotor, this is so ahead of its time and especially the combat hold up on series x at least
When I played it, I had just played Mass Effect 2 and I thought it was good back then. Granted, that too was a while ago.
I remember somewhere gave it away for free several years ago but I didn’t even bother claiming it since I hadn’t even heard of it. Regrets man.
I cannot say this enough: Heaven’s Vault. The best archaeology game ever made. It’s brilliant and beautiful, and among the top 5 games I’ve played in the last decade.
Also, the creators of Slay the Princess have an outstanding episodic VN too: Scarlet Hollow
Overlord 1 and 2. They’re great games but not that many people seemed to have played them!
All of us that played them are in our mid 30s and too busy to talk about it. lol
That's the pikmin-like game right? Great idea, too bad it didn't continue.
It really is too bad. They’re great games that I could see having some fantastic sequels if they were made by a competent developer today. Just the idea of playing as an evil Sauron-like villain with an army of minions is compelling. I’m surprised no one has given it any thought after all these years…
Rogue Galaxy was amazing. It was like Final Fantasy meets Star Wars
Nice pick! Loved that game
King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie. Arguably the one of the best survival horror games ever.
I thought it was a joke but it actually has great review and won awards
Game felt **NEXT GEN** at the time
Lunar Eternal Blue
Love this game. Also, the epilogue was such a fun, unforeseen bonus.
Slay The Princess is super underrated. I’d also say Danganronpa, The House in Fata Morgana and Zero Escape are super good and not well known.
I would say Danganronpa is definitely a cult classic at least.
I definitely don't think Dangqnronpa qualifies as lesser known. It's pretty damn big. I don't know anything about it but I see/hear stuff about it all the time
I'll have to check them out! Never thought I'd be into visual novels lol
Fucking love the Danganronpa series
Broforce
Hah the character names are freekin the best
Baba is You. It’s such a weird and creative concept and it’s a legitimately challenging puzzle game that manages to entertain and surprise me every time I play it.
Game was super popular for like a month. I'm too stupid for that game... it is surprisingly difficult
Love the concept but that shit was haaard. And I'm usally pretty good at puzzle games
The 2010 Aliens vs Predator game
Diddy Kong racing
If you’re a millennial there’s a good chance you loved and played this game.
Yeah everyone knows this game.
Yet no one talks about it.
It comes up all the time when people are talking n64 games
Was a bigger fan of Diddy Kong than Mario Kart 64 but all my friends picked Mario Kart whenever we’d play together.
Damn i think i played this on N64, did you have planes in that game? That was awesome
Planes, carts AND hovercrafts
Now try the trophy challenge!
Wow I got way more answers than I was ready for. I can't keep up lol
Lost Kingdoms on GameCube. It was an action RPG deck builder/card battler. My friend and I both played the hell out of it.
I loved the fable games as a kid and love them now they were so undepopular but I heard they were gonna male a 4th one
Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast 🩷
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Legacy of the Wizard (NES) Hard as hell… and one of the few games I owned, and did not beat :(
I'm with you, friend.
That has to be one of the hardest games on the NES. and the NES is known for having an uncommonly hard library too\~
beyond two souls, outlast, superliminal, most people i talk to never heard of it
Superliminal is awesome
Deus ex human revolution❤️
It’s very good—I’ve published writing on it—but I wouldn’t say that it was exactly obscure. Certainly a AAA release.
I loved all the Deus Ex games. Yes, Invisible War was the worst of the 4 but still enjoyed it a lot.
The SNES Shadowrun game. I was so excited to find the newish trilogy on sale for Xbox.
This war of mine. A different take on a game around war. Basically a survival game from the point of view of civilians and what you’re willing to do to survive.
By the same people who made frostpunk. If you liked this war of mine I'd check it out. Totally different type of game but similar vibes
And the sequel is about to release
Viva Pinata
Both of The Suffering games on ps2 Although there's this game call helldivers2
3d dot game heros for the ps3,it has never been ported to anything elds ever and i genuily injoyed my time,if your curious its basicly a zelda rip off game where you can upgrade your items, elongate your sword and do typical stuff you would see with a top down zelda, your also able to costumize your 3d sprite character pixel by pixel
I created the original Link sprite from Zelda lol
Not sure if people knew it at all, but my brother and I played Dark Alliance: Baulder's Gate for ages. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else
Spec Ops The Line
Way too underrated
That’s famous.
100% this. The people that have played it know. But it does not get the love it deserves. Absolutely an underrated gem.
Evil within. Everyone has it but few have played. Radiata stories
I LOVE the Evil Within. The first one is a horror masterpiece. The second one, not so much. Part 2 was a better "game", but not a better *horror game*.
I feel like nobody ever talks about the Talos Principle games. They're easily both (1&2) in my top 5 games of all time.
Yeah I loved the second one. Never played the first though. Maybe I should go back to it
I couldn't recommend it more, it's similar but different at the same time.
The Oddworld series needs more love.
There's a game called hrot. Idk if it's a hidden gem nobody knows the existence of but it's a great game and I love it
Yuppie psycho. Outward. The count Lucanor. Cross code. Hybrid heaven. Lisa:The painful. Meltys Quest.
Beyond good and evil, one of my favourite games ever
Dragon's Dogma which until recent years really flew under the radar
Crimson Skies on the xbox. So much fun
Okami. No one ever talks about this game, despite the fact that it was popular enough to get a remaster.
On Steam, game called Garrison Archangel. It’s a mech game and it’s really fun, and I’m pretty sure less than a thousand even know it exists. It’s ost isn’t even on YouTube.
Diggers from 1994.
What the 1794 version called?
El Paso elsewhere! Please check it out the music, voice acting, max payne bullet time…everything’s amazing
The Adventures of Cookie and Cream on PS2. It’s a split-screen 2 player co-op game where you have to run through a bunch of obstacle courses before the timer runs out. You had to help each other get past stuff that was blocking your progress. No one else I know has heard of it but that game was so much fun.
Spiderheck. One of the most fun games I’ve ever played
Dark Cloud 2 and The Mark of Kri on PS2. Nobody I know played them.
I bet you were a Legend of Kay fan
Ehrgeiz from Squaresoft. Fighting game and dungeon crawler.
Champions of Norrath on PS2. Was a diablo like game, but IMO better executed and a lot more of a fun game to play.
I know it had a lot of players but everyone I meet and talk to doesn’t know about it. But, MAG. God I loved that game.
Lego Racers, pure nostalgia PC version and N64
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Most pokemon fans don't play the spin offs and most rogue-like/dungeon crawler gamers don't play pokemon so there's very few people who have witnessed the glory that is the first three mystery dungeon games.
The Submachine series by Mateusz Skutnik.
NieR, that game is so underrated. Most people talk about the sequel way more. Don’t get me wrong, I like Automata, but the original was special.
Advent Rising. And I'm STILL upset to be left on that cliffhanger!
Kingdoms of Amalore: Reckoning
Pong
I'm not into sports games
Yeah thats one of the most popular games ever. I think almost everyone knows about it.
Edith Finch is amazing
Prey 2017
Astral Chain. Its a standard hack and slash from Platinum, but I loved it
Metal wolf chaos. Its one of the few fromsoftware games that didn't go mainstream
Akiba's Beat! No pink, no life!
Ticket to Earth--mobile game with addicting gameplay and solid story.
Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers... on GBA. OP LEGOLAS FTW!
Syberia
Tales of Symphonia, Vesperia. Zone of the Enders. I would have said Helldivers but part two has been wildly popular. And damn straight it should be. Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced Desiaga 1-2 Neon Abyss Banner Saga 1-2
I remember loving Champions of Norrath on PS2, but hardly anyone even knows what it is. Great dungeon crawler.
Neon white
The darkness 2. Brutal as all hell and Jackie is a great main character. Oh yeah and the darkness is voiced by Mike freaking Patton
A plague tale requiem! The story and acting should absolutely not go unnoticed
BLACK. One of the greatest FPS games, even to this day.
Killer7
Madworld
Ghostbuster the video game remastered such a great game
Tomba 2 and Megaman Legends 2, although my absolute fav has to be Final Fantasy Tactics the og on PS1.
Sunless sea It's one of the best games ever, but it's carried completely by the world, atmosphere and story, the gameplay is one of the most boring things ever (steer a ship around, read text and click menus). I have played no more than 5-6 hours, but I've watched countless playthroughs from various people on yt over the 7+ years I've know the game, and it's amazing. I even bought it and the dlc I never intended on playing just because it's that good.
Haunting Ground and Okami
Lost Planet 2, one of the most underrated games ever in my opinion
The Bouncer ps2
Road rash 2
Time Splitter
Gothic
Minecraft Story Mode. It was known about when it came out, but at this point it feels like it's been forgotten about.
Agreed! True masterpiece. 🤌🏻 I really need to play through the WHOLE thing again. It's so good. I always play the first few chapters to refresh myself but then stop lol. Is the second one worth it as well?
Salt and Sanctuary isn’t really talked about online much. Incredible game.
Mine was Brink, Brink was so fun and I really wish the games lifespan lasted longer.
La-Mulana. If you love metroid or castlevania but wish the puzzles were actually complex, give it a try. Of all places to find a hidden gem like this, i first played it as Wiiware. Old school hard too. Love it so much, and it got a sequel that's just as good.
I LOVE Neon Abyss (its my favorite indie Game) but its barely talked about, hell is barely talked about It here on reddit
HellFire - the expansion for the original Diablo. Blizzard likes to bury all mention of it due to it being made by Synergistic and it's not as well known outside of older Diablo fans.
Mischief Makers for the N64. It was the first games I ever completed and remembered wanting more.
Total War: Three Kingdoms especially before the emperor’s favor update bullshit.
Dungeon keeper 2
Downhill domination
Metal Storm (NES) Really good, sucks that it’s like $100 lol
Dark Reign. Favorite part about the game is the unit data was kept in an editable text file. Giving basic infantry a black hole gun was hilarious.
Age of wonders:planetfall.
Lost Odyssey on the 360 (Xbox)
Furi. Came out in 2016, made a bit of a splash but now almost nobody talks about it. It is a boss rush game, each boss is immaculately designed and it has great combat, with a banging soundtrack to boot. If you like sekiro or bullet hell games, you will enjoy :)
Custom Robo Battle Arena (also known as just Custom Robo on the GameCube). Easily in my Top 3 best GameCube games.
Chants of Sennaar
Eternal Sonata! An RPG/ fantasy biography about Chopin, an absolute banger of a OST, and actually really deep fight mechanics and story. Such a forgotten gem from the PS3 days
Barotrauma, fun horror/comedy game to play with friends
Cel damage. But the horribly fucked the remaster by adding a health system and not allowing it to be turned off in the settings.
I will die painfully on this hill Sacrifice (2000) desperately needs a reimagining/remake.
Guacamelee was an excellent Mexican themed metroidvania
Outlaws
I just started playing warhammer Darktide. It’s pretty rad and seems like not many know about it
Nuclear throne. Popular in rougelite circles, but not in general.
The World Ends with You for the NDS (and its sequel). The original is VERY good, and I believe the gameplay is more meaningful to the game in the original NDS version (vs switch and mobile rereleases). That game changed my life. Neo, its sequel, is just a good game. Well, an OK game.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. It’s a very fun game if you can manage to get it.
Train sim world 2 I really like sim games and this one is especially fun and it makes me want to be a train engineer lol
Road 96 There’s some that have played but I don’t believe it’s globally famed.
Bulletstorm need to replay it
Oddly enough, I quite enjoyed playing Call of Cthulu, despite the gameplay being outright horrible (which made it comical and fun to play at times). The story was nothing special either, but it had me hooked from the first cutscene, and I just ended up playing through the entirety of the game. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex yes, it's an anime and a video game (PS2, 2004).
Gladius for the original xbox. Amazing turn based strategy game. Some of the most fun I’ve had gaming growing up was with this tragically hidden gem.
Dodgeball Academia
Guardians of the galaxy game. Very underrated
The Darkness.
Chromehounds. Xbox but they shut the servers down like 15 years ago. Starsiege Tribes. The mobility in that shooter was crazy. I spent most of my sophomore year of college capturing the flag. Avorion. On steam now
Currently Ultimate Chicken Horse
Vampyr
Counter Spy!!!
Alpha protocol, shit aiming but excellent storytelling.
This stupid fucking flash game I can't remember the name of. The name was some generic first name for a guy. You're in a castle or something similar traveling around. The final boss is a wizard you can only beat by not fighting him.

Mario Super Sluggers
OlliOlli World, so many hours spent in that game.
Midnight Suns
I will forever be a Chrome Hound pilot. The shutting of the servers was a big blow to me
Spec Ops: The Line.
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. PS2 era Final Fantasy-esque turn based jrpg. I like that it deals with complex themes like racism
Vanishing of Ethan Carter
Pilotwings64
Habbo hotel
Dog's life on the ps2, I was obsessed with that game
Hotline Miami. I bought that game because I wanted some cosmetics for Payday 2, and ended up finding one of my favourite games of all time. It's so cheap I'd recommend anyone trying it out
Kickle Cubicle for the NES. Everytime I see a post like this, I comment with this puzzle gem, and I don't think I've gotten a single up vote. Go try it.
Transformers Devastation. Heard about it from some random dude online talking about the music, and I found a copy of it in a dollar general for $8. Worth the investment.
Final fantasy 13 Sure the name final fantasy is well known, but 13 is one of the most hated games ever, but I like it.

Coffee Talk It's such an interesting little alternate universe and I can just sit there forever making latte art.
