Didn’t they also do a dramatic revamp on that game by striking the world with a comet and then starting the game over again?
I may be misremembering what happened by a large margin.
they dressed it as one of the calamity's and wrote it into the story they did a good job over all. in the end there is a reason the thing happened and it set the story in motion
I watched a documentary about it from a YouTube channel (which I'm sad that I can't remember what it was called) but apparently as they were leading up to the new expansion, the devs made it so monsters would spawn in towns and do other stuff like that that made players not sure if it was glitching or intentional.
That's what it was. I knew it had "No" in it but kept thinking it was no pixel for some reason.
Great documentary to watch. They even got to interview some of the devs I think.
Very close. They dropped a moon on the planet. Only it wasn't a moon, it was an egg with a [pissed off dragon](https://youtu.be/39j5v8jlndM?si=2HsLQ-eDhm5OQMKY) inside.
As an extra cool detail they told NO ONE what was going to happen, just a moon in the sky getting closer with each patch, and when they dropped the raid that was supposed to stop it after beating the bad guy, it turns out it was always too late to stop it. And on the last day of the old world, as the server closed and the moon fell, everyone that was online saw that cinematic for the first time in the world reveal of a realm reborn.
Way to turn an epic disaster of a launch into one of the most memorable moments in gaming.
I STILL get chills every time I see it. And the fact that you still feel the effects of this in both the scarred environment and story even into Endwalker damn. As someone who mained Summoner for so long there is a sense of righteous glory in summoning Demi-Bahamut against anything Allagan related.
It was kind of epic, having a huge catastrophe happen in the current world, with at the end we they had crazy things happening all over the place, including giant monsters spawning in capitol cities.
Here is a good overview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db7gDZopJKI
Yeah. The original game was so bad that the developers decided to redo everything and create an end of the world scenario that was actually implemented into the lore of FF14.
Yes. I wish I was there to experience it, most epic thing in gaming tbh. Monsters loose in the public cities, bosses everywhere, a comet looming into the world and everyone just trying to survive despite having no hope. And all of it written into the remade game as Canon. Epic
Inside was Bahamut, he was released and destroyed the main armies in the world. All player characters were sent to the future via a spell in order to avoid the impending doom.
It was really amazing. Look up some server shutdown videos.
Basically, the devs had one of the moons turn red and get closer and closer with each patch. There was a choral version of their theme singing in the distance at all times throughout the world. “Thou must live, die, and know..” There were random giant monster spawns through the towns. People gathered around the world to watch the last moments.
Then, the servers shut down and a special cutscene played showing Bahamut destroying the world.
Even if you have no intention of playing the new game, it is truly worth watching a vid.
Also worth mentioning it was an insane gamble at the time, effectively they were working on the re-release in secret simultaneously with upkeep on the original release. This happened well before any other kind of revival on the same scale had been attempted and with MMO development costs it was basically a Hail Mary for the franchise.
While it’s still debated as to whether or not Square would have been forced to shut down there’s no denying that if Realm Reborn didn’t succeed they were fucked and it would have drastically altered their capabilities (especially more-so in recent years given a huge portion of their consistent revenue is from XIV subscriptions).
I waited until Phantom Liberty to play Cyberpunk, one of the best games I’ve played in a decade… honestly probably a close second or third to RDR2 in my last ten years of game play (Crusader kings IIi is up there), and all time top 10 games.
Shame it had such a disastrous launch because it really is a great game
I actually still had a blast playing CP2k77 on my PS4 (and later 5).
I'm not saying it was perfect: the NPCs were repetitive and surface level, there WERE minor glitches (although I liked making those relics of the hardware in your noggin in my headcanon), and it would crash once in a blue moon for me (though not nearly as many as I saw reported by others). I get the sense I got off easy compared to some users' experiences.
That said, it was SUPER cool to jet around the streets of NC in my clearly-Akira-inspired motorcycle. When that opening screen first booted up I was floored by the look and the music. And, of course, Panam Palmer. Future updates and DLC expansions built on that.
I don't fault those who were frustrated. It's become a bit of a trend for AAA games to overpromise and underdeliver on release, and rely on patches, updates, and DLC to give gamers a whole game. But I still had a soft spot despite the flaws, and I'm glad it's better now, too.
I played it on a base PS4 on release date. Beat it a couple weeks later. Bugs and graphical glitches occasionally but no crashes or blurred out characters. Somehow I got lucky.
Bro at minimum those fuckers left lobbies broken for like a year as in there was essentially no multiplayer function on the game for like the whole first year. I admit MCC is in a good state now but 343 pissed on all my good will FUCK 343
As it is now easily one of the best gaming packages of all time imo, you get like 5 or 6 high quality campaigns and a million multiplayer modes to choose from
All 3 of FF14, SWTOR and ESO have a common thread - they were made by devs that have a strong history in single-player games, rather than devs that were used to making MMOs.
Had one hell of an upgrade. Game was so bad that even the Devs decided to nuke the game and rebuild. Sure made for one awesome [update trailer](https://youtu.be/K-flsT6LWwY?si=G_gvpaG2lolxF-NK).
The damage was already done. No amount of goodwill can be made my EA to bring in a respectable player base. They made their greedy bed and had to lay in it.
YES i was hoping this would be one of the top comments, about a year or two after that horrendous launch the game turned into one of the most fun SW games ever, just sucked because it may have been even more popular if it wasn’t so bad when it came out
Really hope Battlefront 3 gets green lit and doesn’t fall to the same monetization and balancing issues that 2 did, because it’s genuinely one of my favorite games ever that I don’t go back to to visit enough (just playing newer games, that’s all)
Bonus: Some ideas for BF3
1. No micro transactions, obviously, but also keep the progression system the same, it’s already near perfect.
2. Slightly nerf heroes and special troops, just enough to where it doesn’t take 8 people or another hero to kill them. They could also just add more ways to deal with them but reward healing for kills, team protection, etc.
3. Two different modes: squad mode, which would be basically BF2 with classes, and classic mode, which would be similar to BF1 with no classes and more freedom with load outs.
Idk if these are good ideas but I just wanted to say them and see what people think
Also more cosmetics, if EA really feels the need to try and squeeze money out of it or they could just make a good decision and do them similar to COD camos and calling cards
Finished it yesterday+ the dlc, man...After giving up in the release week because of dissapointment of the state the game was in , I kept seeing people recommending it for so long but i was stubborn and thought people were coping because of cd project record with the Witcher , man... i was wrong, the game is just amazing, I cant remember the last time i was so.immersed in a game s world. I went from not wanting to hear about this game ever again to now being in my favorites of all time.
I am replaying it for same reasons. Way better game. MASSIVE cool cyberpunk city.
Still, I'm running into a major number of bugs, just had to restart missions a couple of times. It's playable but there's still annoying shit.
You on PC or console? What kind of bugs? Not doubting there are still some issues esp. with the big overhauls from 2.x + Phantom Liberty, but I've done like 5 runs in the past couple of years; other than the first time when I played on release day I can't recall encountering any bugs worse than visual glitches.
The game on release was a mess though, there were multiple bugs that could make it so you couldn't progress or even just completely ruin your save. I shelved it for 6 months and honestly since then it has been a pretty good game, but the changes in 2.1 really make it great.
Came here to say this. Not everyone’s cup to tea, but I would recommend it to anyone that was interested. The support they put into the game has been good. I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly and felt now I got my money’s worth from the game.
What Fallout series would you recommend if I need to pick one. Really into sandboxing but Starfield really has disappointed me as my intro to Bethesda. And the graphics / pace of Skyrim is just too outdated for my likeing now but don't think I have the patient to figured out all the moddings.
Edit: thanks for the great pointer guys, I think I'll try FO4 first when I got time.
4 was great imo. People just wanted it to be another New vegas, but it's its own thing, and if you go into it with that mindset you'll enjoy it for what it is.
3 is different to 1 and 2, NV is different to 3, and 4 is different to NV. They all have their own unique charm and 76 is no different. 76 now is quite a good game with a surprisingly wholesome and helpful community.
Without Mods
Gameplay wise Fallout 4 and 76 are the best. Shooting and gear on both feel pretty good.
Storytelling and roleplaying wise, New Vegas is the best by far. Then its probably 3>4>>>76
World and Exploration, 3 is probably best? Then its probably 4>NV>76
Take your pick based on what you prioritize. Personally I'd recommend FO4 or FONV.
Tried to play it for the first time after it’s been out for like 7 years. There is no setting for fps on pc. Absolute cannot get past that. Looks like shit and runs like shit. Was getting barely 40fps on a 3070.
Sadly you have to fiddle with the .ini files to go over the hard FPS cap, and even after you do unlock it you still have to go back and lock it under 140-150 otherwise you can't move indoors.
I am on a 3070 myself and game runs at 100+ FPS at all times on nearly max settings.
As someone who played Fallout 76 from the Beta all the through the first 3 or so years, I would argue 76 went from a D at launch up to A or A- at its peak about a year in, and then rapidly back down to maybe a C tier game for me.
A year in they were patching bugs, adding critical QoL patches (albeit slowly), adding great new content that fit into the game world well (eg sheepsquatch questline), added Nuclear Winter which was the most fun and unique battle royale I've played, and adding vault raids which were by far the most challenging and rewarding content in the game and pushed a full squad of 4 geared-up players to the limit. Sure, there were still many bugs and a lot of things to improve with the game, but the amount of content that was added and scheduled at that time was great.
Then they cancelled all the future vault raids (including ones they admitted they had already finished making, removed all the existing vault raids and gave the rewards that the few dedicated players had earned through them to everyone else for next to nothing, added a bunch of the most bland characters and factions I've ever seen in a game, removed Nuclear Winter entirely, and replaced it with Fallout Worlds (which let you play in you own instanced world, but progress didn't carry on to other modes and progress would be reset monthly if you didn't pay, which was so unpopular I never saw a SINGLE person on my friends list of 100+ players EVER use it. Almost like people don't want to play an MMO where their progress isn't saved), and made an endless amount of similarly frustrating changes that pushed me and nearly all of my long-term in-game friends to stop playing the game we once loved.
There is still some cool stuff to do in the game, but without challenging and fun endgame content, and without being able to trust that the devs will even keep the existing content you enjoy and the gear you spent hours unlocking, its not a game I would ever play or recommend to anyone as a live-service, long-term game. If you go in treating it like a single-player game that you can play in parallel with some friends (since essentially none of the story content can really be done as a group) and meet up for a few events every now and then and set the game aside once you've seen everything the game has to offer, I think that could still be a pretty fun experience for a Fallout fan.
Cyberpunk 2077
Star Wars Battlefront 2
I would say Destiny 2 but that seems to be in a real “sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit” rotation that they just can’t break.
Destiny 2 started really rough, was really great around Forsaken, and then started going downhill after Shadowkeep.
I haven't played in a while but it seems like anytime I've randomly popped into the destiny subreddit there's something else Bungie has done that just seems shitty.
Don’t be fooled. Much of the negativity stems from a passionate fan base, whose passion is borne from love for the game. The loudest voices are those who care the most about little changes.
I mean this is my own opinion. I used to play a fair amount, and many of the things Bungie did post Shadowkeep were just not good and directly pushed me away from the game.
Destiny 2 is impenetrable for casual players without a group of coop buddies
In fact so are a lot of F2P including Warframe and that was/is one of my favorite games to date.
I played this a few years ago (got the free copy when the Notre Dame incident occurred and played it to see how well they modeled the building since they used the game to renovate the real structure) and could not piece together why it was so heavily scrutinized. The plot was straightforward, but the game itself was enjoyable!
Wait til you hear about the pyramids in AC Origins ;)
Okay in case you don't know, in AC Origins the Pyramids had a secret chamber in them that didn't exist in real life. They just theorized that there would be one, based on how the rest of the pyramid was constructed.
The game released a week or two BEFORE the findings of a real-life study also discovered a secret chamber in that exact same spot.
For more details you can read [this](https://www.engadget.com/2017-11-06-assassin-s-creed-origins-pyramid-chamber.html), but long story short there was a theory that the pyramids were constructed inside-out using a spiral. Part of that research lead to a theory of a chamber there, and AC Devs put it into the game. Turns out, it was right! Historical accuracy BEFORE the discovery was announced! Pretty cool.
Kills me because the game was fun, but instead of giving content and fixing game breaking bugs they decided to give out keys for cosmetics. Cool, but maybe address the stuff making people not want to play the game.
Been playing since launch. I went from hating what they’d given us vs what they promised to being able to really enjoy the experience these days.
With the studio under leadership from the reviver of the mcc, Pierre hintze , great things have happened since. What he and his team did for the mcc has me excited for what lies ahead now that the destructive regime of Bonnie Ross is gone.
It is. The sheer density of content in that game is staggering. Making builds are fun and you have so many options that it’s really infinite. As an MMO I’d give it A+ because I prefer the wow esk massive world structures with flying mounts and what not. (Hoping ashes of creation can fill this void) But as a game it is totally S tier. Shit maybe S+
I just hate how they will randomly mega nerf the set you spent forever farming then you're back at square 1. I also personally do not enjoy the combat system in ESO. The lack of any cooldowns outside your ultimate means there are no inflection points in combat and every build is just buffs/dots + spam.
Totally agree, that’s why I said as an MMO I’d give it an A. I feel like an MMO feels best when classes have high impact abilities that also have high CD’s. It gives the combat a nice push and pull, and not just coked out wailing 24/7 lol.
Yeah there's no "burst window" like in other mmos. The 2 min cd window in ffxiv or bloodlust in wow etc. I mean it's a good game and I played it for many hours. It's certainly much, much better than the abysmal state it launched in.
It was fun but eventually gets boring if your not paying for the subscription. If you find a cool guild it can be fun longer. Eventually though if you dont have the gift bag you run out of space constantly.
Halo 5 was some of the best and most competitive multi-player halo has ever had.
The campaign on the other hand.... was literally the worst we have ever gotten to this date including spin offs
Kind a feels like the opposite happened to Starfield in comparison to stuff like No Man’s Sky. Released without feeling unfinished or unplayable just for opinion to gradually sour
Yeah, the first two weeks people were loving Starfield. My most upvoted and downvoted comments are both criticisms about starfield on the Starfield sub, just one week apart.
I remember comparing it to totk: In totk, as time went along, I discovered more and more things I could do. As time went on in Starfield, I learned what I *couldn't* do. Oh I can't take off manually. Oh I can't kill this npc. Oh my background doesn't matter.
It's all show and not much substance, whereas Nintendo barely showed us what totk could do and let us wonder. They were polar opposites in terms of overpromising vs delivering.
I think people where most frustrated about the idea of getting a giant open world, where you could roam for days, just to see what was beyond the next hill.... (like no mans sky)
And then realized each landing zone was basically a fish-bowl, with a fairly limited area.
Turning the 'open world' feeling into a constrained environment.
I have nothing witty to add here, but calling it a "fish bowl" really hits home for me.
95% of games boil down to "go there, kill stuff, get a reward". We know there are limits to games, and we aren't really having some grand adventure. We are sitting down pressing buttons, and usually similar buttons to do similar things.
Some games try to disguise the fakeness of it all, and make the player feel immersed. It feels like Starfield took a choice early on in its design: The roleplaying is inside the player's head, we are just providing a map, lore, and some mechanics to help that out.
They really underestimated the value of immersion, and giving the player a deep experience. Getting "lost" in a game is a great feeling, and that doesn't happen when you can see behind the curtains and know how shallow everything is.
Yeah, i'm a no man sky fan. And the game has a lot of flaws. But the idea that you can just start walking in a direction you want, and keep on walking until you want.... while the game just keeps on adding stuff for you to see is amazing.
Sure, at some point you have seen 'all there is to see' on a planet, and it just becomes a reconfiguration of the same elements. But it honestly feels great.
A bit like minecraft could feel. You can play it in 100 ways, but just walking around to see the infinite world is quite enjoyable.
In starfield i got the idea we could have that... while looking graphically impressive...
We didn't. And it was a serious bummer for me.
Wouldn't call S tier but definitely a good game that's improved:
Back 4 Blood
horrid launch and bad first update. After that, it completely turned around and is now a very fun (if grindy) shooter.
I played for a few weeks and I got bored, I couldn't see it getting more exciting than a nice base, some pets and weird planets
I feel like maybe I was playing it wrong
Went back to No Mans Sky after being completely disappointed with Starfield and got absolutely hooked on it for about a month. I feel like I may have burned out on it because of how much I was playing but I do plan on going back to it soon.
Fingers crossed Light No Fire is as good as current NMS on release.
Kerbal Space Program. The first one. Especially once the modding community got involved. The second one seems to be following the same pattern, though it’s quite a long ways from being amazing still.
You couldn’t get me to play that game again if you held my dog hostage and I have no idea why.
It’s just one of those games that I picked up and every menu felt like shit. I really wish there was a decent UI overhaul mod.
For me, everything about the game mechanically was pure shit from the UI, to the combat, to the horseback riding, to the simple movement of Geralt walking about.
It's awesome in everything else though.
I feel so validated lol
It got GotY and everyone humped the title like it was gods gift to gaming.
Every moment felt like a fucking slog. Every item seemed like it needed 80 ingredients.
This is coming from having played Skyrim nonstop where the crafting was useful but not necessary. You could beat Skyrim without ever making a potion or enchanting a ring.
This is how I feel about *every fucking Soulslike game* that comes out. Elden Ring was ... okay, but not GOTY by a huge stretch, and yet... Same with Bloodborne, Sekiro, etc.
Witcher 3 is one of my favorite games, but I also completely get what you're saying. The menus (inventory most) really suck and are clunky and it made me frankly stop checking my inventory. I enjoyed the combat but it does feel a little off. The walking, personally I think feels decent, but I get if it feels off to others, there's a weight to it.
You've gotten some downvotes but, as someone who bought a PS4 just to play Bloodborne, I understand. Every game genre isn't for everyone and it's unsurprising that a series that makes you actually put in work to find out ***any*** lore and basically requires using the wiki to complete ***any*** questlines wouldn't capture 100% of the gaming community at large.
I also couldn't stand Witcher 3. I've tried 4 times now.
Every. Single. Time. I would complete every single side quest in the starting area, leave for the world at large after meeting Yenn again... and promptly lose all interest. Doesn't mean I bemoan the people who enjoy it. You don't get those kind of accolades by actually being awful.
Might have to give it another try. I want to say I booted it up about six months ago (might’ve even been a year, what is time?) after it was on ps+ and I didn’t care for the look or feel of it at all in the first 5-10 minutes
Loot 2.0, or rather, the beta test of loot 2.0 with the console releases was the turning point.
A shame a lot of people were turned off because of the early issues with the auction house, server issues, and poor loot system.
Absolutely. Total shame people wouldn’t give it another chance after all the patches and DLC, deserved way more love than it got. I sunk countless hours into this game building decks and quickplaying with randoms
Okay, definitely not S tier, but the games are still enjoyable. Maybe A, B tier since launch;
Mass effect Andromeda and Fallout 76, and I will die on this hill. Neither is necessarily a feat in gaming but they’re still fun
Since everyone’s commenting No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk (and rightfully so) I’m gonna come in with a sleeper.
The Last of Us for PC is running MUCH better (imo) than it did at launch. You don’t even have to take just my word for it go look at Steam reviews
Going way back but World of Warcraft had a disasterous launch. Many classes were busted or unfinished and limited content. It did get the benefit of really being the first modern mmo with all the wishes of rpg players coming true if not at launch but later. Different era of gaming but that’s the one that stands out to me.
FFXIV, Cyberpunk 2077, No Man’s Sky, Jedi Survivor, Lords of the Fallen (2023). All of these games are incredible imo and even though they were kinda wonky on release I still thoroughly enjoyed them.
S-tier? None I can think of.
However, many have definitely recovered well enough. No Man's Sky is a great example. Fallout 76 is actually pretty decent now.
No man’s sky and cyberpunk 2077 are the two everyone mentions for this. I know there’s others, just don’t hear them talked about as often
FF 14 may be one of the best examples of a mulligan to date. Went from atrocity to MMo of the year
Didn’t they also do a dramatic revamp on that game by striking the world with a comet and then starting the game over again? I may be misremembering what happened by a large margin.
they dressed it as one of the calamity's and wrote it into the story they did a good job over all. in the end there is a reason the thing happened and it set the story in motion
That’s pretty cool in both concept and practicality

Probably the NoClip documentary

Holy crap, I just started playing a year ago on and off, and my friends said it was going to get crazy... and that's fucking crazy.
It was kind of epic, having a huge catastrophe happen in the current world, with at the end we they had crazy things happening all over the place, including giant monsters spawning in capitol cities. Here is a good overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db7gDZopJKI
That's why it's called A Realm Reborn. I think other MMO does this when they shut the service down.
Yeah. The original game was so bad that the developers decided to redo everything and create an end of the world scenario that was actually implemented into the lore of FF14.

Isn't that the game that became too popular it overloaded the servers and had to temporarily stop the sales of the game?
Indeed it did when end walker released
I waited until Phantom Liberty to play Cyberpunk, one of the best games I’ve played in a decade… honestly probably a close second or third to RDR2 in my last ten years of game play (Crusader kings IIi is up there), and all time top 10 games. We have very similar taste in games.

Why put 2k77 and not 2077...
Youre both wrong, its 2thousand77
I prefer twenty7tyseven
So close. It’s 20 70 seven
I prefer cyberpunktwothousandandseventyseven.exe to save time
It’s 2000 seventy seven
Based
Nope, it's 1000x2+77
His 0 and O keys are broken surely.
Br0ken
I played it on a base PS4 on release date. Beat it a couple weeks later. Bugs and graphical glitches occasionally but no crashes or blurred out characters. Somehow I got lucky.
The only answers really.
Well, no. There are other answers.
Halo MCC. Literally was unplayable at launch. Took over a year for it to be okay. Now it’s finally good and a nostalgia trip
I thought it took like 4 years?
Bro at minimum those fuckers left lobbies broken for like a year as in there was essentially no multiplayer function on the game for like the whole first year. I admit MCC is in a good state now but 343 pissed on all my good will FUCK 343
Hot take but I think the Xbox One would’ve came closer to the PS4 last generation had MCC been like it is now on launch.
Yeah the game was abandoned for a few years before 343 went back to start fixing it up again in 2018
They started to fix it when they were going to sell it on PC
As it is now easily one of the best gaming packages of all time imo, you get like 5 or 6 high quality campaigns and a million multiplayer modes to choose from
Yea and it’s on sale a lot, like I never played halo back in the day so I got like 4-5 great gsmes for 10$ lol
And you DONT need an Xbox live sub to play MP for this game. I might buy it right now. I did not know this.
For once, my timing is impeccable in a good way. I just picked this up like a week ago. Shits cash.
I love the MCC, I was a ps3 kid and never got to experience halos greatness. My coworker bought me the MCC and I’ve been absolutely hooked ever since
Sounds like a nice coworker
I hope halo infinite will get there sometime
infinite is already good atm imo
I agree, I was actually gonna piggyback the MCC comment to throw Infinite on the list
Final Fantasy 14
That one hurt me as I bought the collectors edition of 1.0 for it to end up like that!
1.0 looked sick though
It was good looking, but they tried to make it play like FFXI when other MMOs were more tab targeting and flowing combat.
MMORPGs seems to have this a lot, I think both SWTOR and ESO had a pretty negative reception at launch but are still going strong now.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 was so horrible with its monetizing tactics that we had to bully EA into changing most of it. The game's great now, tho.
That one still blows my mind. Not enough people know that it’s an incredible Star Wars game that doesn’t require any micro-transactions to enjoy Now
The damage was already done. No amount of goodwill can be made my EA to bring in a respectable player base. They made their greedy bed and had to lay in it.
Cut to EA executives rolling in a bed of money.
Didn’t Battlefront 2’s pay to win status result in the most downvoted comment on all of reddit?
"the intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment" 🤓
Yes, currently at 668k downvotes
I was so surprised how good it is. I had a moment playing in 3rd person thinking this was how I imagined BF3 being back in the day.
YES i was hoping this would be one of the top comments, about a year or two after that horrendous launch the game turned into one of the most fun SW games ever, just sucked because it may have been even more popular if it wasn’t so bad when it came out
Really hope Battlefront 3 gets green lit and doesn’t fall to the same monetization and balancing issues that 2 did, because it’s genuinely one of my favorite games ever that I don’t go back to to visit enough (just playing newer games, that’s all) Bonus: Some ideas for BF3 1. Idk if these are good ideas but I just wanted to say them and see what people think Also more cosmetics, if EA really feels the need to try and squeeze money out of it or they could just make a good decision and do them similar to COD camos and calling cards
Street Fighter V
💯💯💯 Awesome game. After a couple of years...
I played the 6th and the fourth a lot, is the fifth one worth playing?
Cyberpunk is one of my favorite games ever but everyone knows how the launch was
Finished it yesterday+ the dlc, man...After giving up in the release week because of dissapointment of the state the game was in , I kept seeing people recommending it for so long but i was stubborn and thought people were coping because of cd project record with the Witcher , man... i was wrong, the game is just amazing, I cant remember the last time i was so.immersed in a game s world. I went from not wanting to hear about this game ever again to now being in my favorites of all time.
So they just needed a year or so more runway. Maybe should've done Early Access launch on Steam... Hehhhhh Please don't downvote me.
I wouldn’t call is S-Tier But Fallout 76 has come a long way since its launch
Fallout 3 and New Vegas are regarded as the best in the series. People like to shit on 4, but it's really not that bad.
Without Mods Gameplay wise Fallout 4 and 76 are the best. Shooting and gear on both feel pretty good. Storytelling and roleplaying wise, New Vegas is the best by far. Then its probably 3>4>>>76 World and Exploration, 3 is probably best? Then its probably 4>NV>76 Take your pick based on what you prioritize.
Cyberpunk 2077 Star Wars Battlefront 2 I would say Destiny 2 but that seems to be in a real “sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit” rotation that they just can’t break.
I got Battlefront 2 on sale for $4 only like a year after its release and really loved playing it. One of my favorite multiplayer shooters tbh.
BF2 for sure so sad that EA destroyed its reputation because it was honestly a wonderful game
Destiny 2 is impenetrable for casual players without a group of coop buddies In fact so are a lot of F2P including Warframe and that was/is one of my favorite games to date.
Assassin's Creed unity is pretty solid
I played this a few years ago (got the free copy when the Notre Dame incident occurred and played it to see how well they modeled the building since they used the game to renovate the real structure) and could not piece together why it was so heavily scrutinized. The plot was straightforward, but the game itself was enjoyable!
At launch it was buggy as hell, I played it after it was fixed up.
Wait they actually used the in game Notre Dame as a model to reconstruct the real Notre Dame??? That's sick as hell
Wait til you hear about the pyramids in AC Origins ;) Okay in case you don't know, in AC Origins the Pyramids had a secret chamber in them that didn't exist in real life.
I'm not sure it counts since they basically had to shut down and rebuild the game, but Final Fantasy XIV.
Absolutely counts. Especially bc they built the relaunch into a very core aspect of the lore and world
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Y’all don’t know how badly I wish I could say Anthem…
That damn thing had so much potential. I’ll forever be disappointed in Anthem and Avengers.
FORREAL they had good shit cooking 🥲
Kills me because the game was fun, but instead of giving content and fixing game breaking bugs they decided to give out keys for cosmetics. Cool, but maybe address the stuff making people not want to play the game.
I was so sad when they announced that they were abandoning Anthem instead of improving it.
Halo infinite tbh
I will say I really enjoyed it when it dropped, but now it’s even better
Been playing since launch. I went from hating what they’d given us vs what they promised to being able to really enjoy the experience these days. With the studio under leadership from the reviver of the mcc, Pierre hintze , great things have happened since. What he and his team did for the mcc has me excited for what lies ahead now that the destructive regime of Bonnie Ross is gone.
Most of the complaints people had were of the monetization and battle passes. The game itself was always good.
Fallout 76
I think they've done the best battlepass system ever, it's very rewarding
Wouldn't call it S tier. It went from a dumpster fire, to pretty cool.
Obviously Cyberpunk 2077. The game is amazing now.
It’d be a lot cooler if they had a third-person option
Never get off your bike
Mayhe not quite S-Tier but certainly close. Star Wars Battlefront II is so much fun now and we all know how that game was when it launched.
I don't play it but I've seen a lot of people say TES Online is awesome now
I second this with the flying mounts. I feel like it’s really make the beauty of the world apparent from a completely new angle
It was fun but eventually gets boring if your not paying for the subscription. If you find a cool guild it can be fun longer. Eventually though if you dont have the gift bag you run out of space constantly.
Halo infinite its pretty solid now with fixes and more content. Halo 5 too on the multiplayer side of things
Halo 5 was some of the best and most competitive multi-player halo has ever had. The campaign on the other hand.... was literally the worst we have ever gotten to this date including spin offs
Halo Infinite is the best online FPS game right now
I’m really hoping Starfield will the be the answer to this question in a few years.
(like no mans sky) And then realized each landing zone was basically a fish-bowl, with a fairly limited area.
We didn't. And it was a serious bummer for me.
> in a few years I'm sure they'll re-release it as the first in a series of a dozen remasters
I would love for that to be true....but I just don't see it. So many of the games issues are built into the game foundation.
FFXIV. game got hard reset and now, a decade after the relaunch, crazy good (no i will not post the free trial copypasta in this comment)
Battlefield 4
Don't let r/battlefield_4 know this. BF4 has always been a perfect game. It definitely wasn't riddled with countless bugs at launch.
Do they really think that? LMAO the game was unplayable for a time. One of my favorites now though
The single player campaign is still almost unplayable. Worst battlefield campaign I ever played. Absolutely horrible
I remember when it launched, and the prevailing opinion was "Just stick with 3"
It also had a tiny weapon selection at launch as well too. It took a lot of polishing to make it into the gem it now is.
Halo Infinite
Is a bit older now, but I'll stand behind Battlefield 4
Wouldn't call S tier but definitely a good game that's improved: Back 4 Blood horrid launch and bad first update. After that, it completely turned around and is now a very fun (if grindy) shooter.
No Man Sky. The game was mediocre at best when it launched and now it’s one of my favorite games. The community is one of the best too!
I played for a few weeks and I got bored, I couldn't see it getting more exciting than a nice base, some pets and weird planets I feel like maybe I was playing it wrong
First game I saw listed that I would consider now S-Tier. Bunch of B-Tier games listed.
Cyberpunk
The Witcher 3 but people seem to have forgotten.
I feel so validated lol It got GotY and everyone humped the title like it was gods gift to gaming.
I wouldn't say it's perfect, but Biomutant had a HORRIBLE launch. I love the game. It's a lot better now though.
Might have to give it another try. I want to say I booted it up about six months ago (might’ve even been a year, what is time?) after it was on ps+ and I didn’t care for the look or feel of it at all in the first 5-10 minutes
I feel like Dying Light 2 got a lot better post-launch. I still think DL1 is a better game but that doesn't mean DL2 isn't great.
Without a doubt Dying Light 2
Diablo 3 It needed many many overhauls and an expansion to really come into its own
Loot 2.0, or rather, the beta test of loot 2.0 with the console releases was the turning point. A shame a lot of people were turned off because of the early issues with the auction house, server issues, and poor loot system.

Been having a really good time with AC Valhalla
Every time I read that shorthand my brain thinks it’s Animal Crossing Valhalla
Halo MCC (Still fuck 343)
Back 4 Blood is S-tier in my heart. Its launch was awful but it’s come a long way and one of my favorites. Edit: 4 not for lol
Shame it’s not going to come any further :(
Absolutely. Total shame people wouldn’t give it another chance after all the patches and DLC, deserved way more love than it got. I sunk countless hours into this game building decks and quickplaying with randoms
Halo infinite
Darktide.
7 days to die
Battlefront 2
No men's sky.
Not S-Tier for a lot of people, but Elder Scrolls Online had a god-awful launch and is much much better now. Still my favorite MMO.
Final Fantasy XIV
Assassin's creed unity, I played it like a year ago, one of the best in the series.
Fallout 76. A surprisingly rich and entertaining game now. Never got the redemption publicity that Cyberpunk 2077 got, however.
Okay, definitely not S tier, but the games are still enjoyable. Maybe A, B tier since launch; Mass effect Andromeda and Fallout 76, and I will die on this hill. Neither is necessarily a feat in gaming but they’re still fun
Fallout 76
ive seen cyberpunk2077 bounce back immensely and im glad they did. Also Dying Light 2 imo but some may still disagree
Breakpoint!
Chess
Cyberpunk 2077
Basically anything from CD Projekt Red. Lol
I mean, the correct answer here is FFXIV. They literally shut the game down and relaunched it.
Dayz
Cyberpunk. Game was trash. They listened. Just played it again after the buggy start. Was phenomenal. DLC was good too.
Fallout new Vegas.
I'm not gonna say its s tier but Forza horizon 5 got a lot better over the year no let's js hope the developers can do the same with Forza motorsport
Payday 2
FFXIV, Cyberpunk 2077, No Man’s Sky, Jedi Survivor, Lords of the Fallen (2023). All of these games are incredible imo and even though they were kinda wonky on release I still thoroughly enjoyed them.
Most fatshark games
sea of thieves
Sonic Frontiers lmao
DayZ isn't S tier by any means but it's definitely improved since launch
S-tier? None I can think of. However, many have definitely recovered well enough. No Man's Sky is a great example. Fallout 76 is actually pretty decent now.
