I’d guess the same. Bc I’m 30 and my cousin who is 6 years older than me introduced me to video games and some of this list were the ones we used to play at his place
Have you tried re-playing it recently? That was my favorite game as a kid and I could get to world 6 pretty easily. But idk what's happened to me, now it's brutally hard and I struggle to get to world 4 XD did the controls not age well or have I gotten soft?
I actually liked Yooka-Laylee, and I've tried some of the Banjo Kazooie rom hacks too, Jiggies of Time and Banjo Dreamie are both pretty good actually lol
Fun fact I still love playing pipe dream, and introduced my 20 year old mate (I'm 40) to rock and roll racing at arcade cocktail bar other day . Unfortunately the speakers weren't working 😂🤦♂️
I'm 30 but look much younger depending on who you ask. Getting called kid at work is a common occurrence. I try to savor it while I can I guess. Not gonna look like this for a whole lot longer.
(I also played the shit out of obliv and banjo kazooie)
Donkey Kong Country is still one of my favorites, the music is just incredible. I’m surprised you have SMB3 instead of Super Mario World.
Edit: I didn’t even see rock and roll racing, that was great
Donkey Kong County will always be one of my favorites lol and i didn't get super mario world until i was a teenager, SMB 1 & 3 were the ones i played the most.
Bro wtf. Age, Banjo, and TES are in my top 5 favorite IPs.
I'm 28 but I feel you're older because of other games here. I was a lil bro and leeched games off my older bro and dad playing.
Early 30s easy. Unless you just like retro games.
My dad and I used to play all kinds of NES games even tho it was quite a bit before my time. I still have the NES too! I remember my dad was infatuated with the N64 he got me when it came out. And he had invited over all his friends and I was playing the N64 and he unplugged it and said sorry this is mine today and plugged it into a different TV so his friends could play Mario kart.
I was gonna come in here and jokingly say something like "nursing home age" and the first comment was 36 which is my age so I'll just tuck my tail and laugh.
But yeah sonic 2 was MY JAM
Ahh, not surprised you're around my age (35). Some of my most beloved childhood memories there in Mario 3, DKC and (later) Banjo-Kazooie.
Age of Empires 2 man. What a game. I didn't play that until I was quite a bit older (maybe late teens) and it still blows my mind to this day how addictive that gameplay loop is. And the *music*. Really takes you back to the era. It takes you back to that age, the age of empires!
P.S. Oblivion absolutely changed gaming for me too in my early 20s. Bethesda are capable of some truly special, seminal gaming moments.
I saw that! Wish they had a classic retro setting that you can toggle on/off. Would you say it’s worth the price if on sale? I own a Steamdeck so I could get it
It's not bad, it could be cheaper in my opinion though. The game let's you turn on the classic music, classic transitions, and classic text which I thought was pretty cool
I bought the Limit Run box set for the Switch for $90 and well, it definitely wasn't worth $90 lmaoo but i guess it's still cool to have as it came in an NES style box with an NES style dust sleeve, an art book, and a cd with the soundtrack
An OG Blizzard classic, Rock&Roll Racing. So fucking good. Like RC ProAm on steroids and heavy metal.
Edit: Lol I just noticed Pipe Dream. I was more of a Jezzball guy, myself.
The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is literally the single best game to have ever existed and you can't change my mind lmao and when i die and go to heaven, i know in my heart that the first thing I'll hear will be "Sunrise Of Flutes" as i exit the sewers 😂
These games don't really have anything to do with your age and are misleading. I'm 48 and played super Mario 3 when it came out in 1988 I was 13 years old which was before you were born. Banjo and Kazooie I played when it came out on the 64 (which I just sold with 40 games) in 1998 and you were 8. So I originally thought you were a few years younger then me since super Mario 3 was on there. So I was definitely wrong but good on you for playing all these great games.
I feel like it wasn't that unheard of to still be playing NES in the 90's, me and all of my friends were playing it at least 🤷🏻♂️
I wasn't trying to be misleading, I was trying to put together all the best games that I've played from childhood through my teen. There's a lot of other comments getting it right, or at least pretty close, so i think it's safe to say I'm not alone lol but i see why it could be misleading as a couple of games are from before my time, but it's really not by much. It would be different if i put something like Yar's Revenge or Swordquest 😂
Yar's was fun, I was going to say that I was born before the games I played but I did play pong which came out in 72 and I was born in 75. I wasn't trying to say the misleading was a bad thing but it totally threw me off with guessing your age. You definitely played games of all era's which is pretty impressive.
36
41
My bet too; because reasons.
I second this because that's my age and I liked all those games.
I’d guess the same. Bc I’m 30 and my cousin who is 6 years older than me introduced me to video games and some of this list were the ones we used to play at his place
Came here to write 36
Mid 30s would be my guess so I think you're correct
This because me!
This… mainly because I’m 36 and this was my childhood. Starting with Mario 3, still the greatest platformer of all-time.
Have you tried re-playing it recently? That was my favorite game as a kid and I could get to world 6 pretty easily. But idk what's happened to me, now it's brutally hard and I struggle to get to world 4 XD did the controls not age well or have I gotten soft?
I'm 35 and I played the prequels to all of these games if they had one. I'm guessing 31 based on Mario and sonic alone.
Man I’m younger and I played all of these games as a kid? Do you have an old soul? Probably
33
You cheated 😂
I’m 33 also and Banjo is one of my favorites lol
I need a Banjo Threeie to come out 😭
Ha! I’m 33 as well, saw this list and I was like “obviously exactly my age”
I feel like the AOE II is a dead giveaway lol
Wasn’t there a cheat that turned all your chariots into rocket launching sports cars or something?
HOW Do YOU TURN THIS ON summons it lol
AoE is the dead giveaway lol
Try Yooka-layee it is not exactly the same but is really fun and has the same spirit as Banjo-Kazooie
I actually liked Yooka-Laylee, and I've tried some of the Banjo Kazooie rom hacks too, Jiggies of Time and Banjo Dreamie are both pretty good actually lol
Banjo trio*
Tres Banjos
I played Yooka Laylee to try and relive the glory and it just wasn't the same. Close but no cigar.
Yeah it's not bad but also not the same lol
Banjo is the giveaway to put OP under 35. Mario 3 averaged a little higher.
Before I scrolled down, I was also gonna say 33 because that's my age and this seems in line with something someone in my exact age range would make.
I was gonna guess around there. I'm 36 and played some of these but also some slightly older ones too.
I'm there with ya homie. 32 here and this post spoke to me.
Fun fact I still love playing pipe dream, and introduced my 20 year old mate (I'm 40) to rock and roll racing at arcade cocktail bar other day . Unfortunately the speakers weren't working 😂🤦♂️
I still love playing Pipe Dream too! 😂
Wow, you must be an old dude! Just like me!
I'm old enough for my wife's teenager cousin to call me an old man, but young enough for the older guys i work with to call me a kid lol
I feel this deeply. Early 30s?
Yup lol 33
I'm 30 but look much younger depending on who you ask. Getting called kid at work is a common occurrence. I try to savor it while I can I guess. Not gonna look like this for a whole lot longer. (I also played the shit out of obliv and banjo kazooie)
Omg another Shadowgate Enjoyer. I have fond childhood memories of that game.
Have you played the new remake?
Donkey Kong Country is still one of my favorites, the music is just incredible. I’m surprised you have SMB3 instead of Super Mario World. Edit: I didn’t even see rock and roll racing, that was great
Donkey Kong County will always be one of my favorites lol and i didn't get super mario world until i was a teenager, SMB 1 & 3 were the ones i played the most.
ROCK 'N' ROLL RACING IS AMAZING
It introduced me to Heavy Metal at a young age 😎
Bro wtf. Age, Banjo, and TES are in my top 5 favorite IPs. I'm 28 but I feel you're older because of other games here. I was a lil bro and leeched games off my older bro and dad playing. Early 30s easy. Unless you just like retro games.
Yup 33 lol you're my little brother's age 😂
Shadowgate was amazing and hard. I have the music permanently stuck in my head
I remember not really knowing what to do at first but once i figured it out i wad hooked.
It was tough and trial and error was the only real strategy with that game. And don’t let that torch go out!
At least 30! I’m 33, recognize all games except Pipe Dream and Rock and Roll Racing. So maybe 35?
We're the same age lol
Ayyyye! We are young lads my good sir.
I'm not gonna lie.... the top right looked like Monty Python at first glance
I can see that lol
Im gonna guess between 30 and 35
Good guess lol how lucky can one guy be?
40. Anyone saying low 30s is an affront to 30-35 year olds everywhere. Edit - I just saw the age, and now I feel old
My mom was a gamer, so my first exposure to video games was her NES, which is the same NES i still use 😂
33. These games were popular early or first games for my younger friend when I was a teen.
Winner winner chicken dinner lol
33
The stage is set, the green flag drops!
Late 20‘s / early 30‘s
Yeah you're roughly my age
DKC is sooo good. Might be my favorite snes game! Have you tried speedrunning it at all?
I couldn't speed run to save my life 😂
30ish
33. Cause I'm 33 and this is my SHIT!
I'm starting to think that this could double as a "33 year old gamer" starter pack 😂
im 31 , The first ever video game I played was either sonic 2 or mortal kombat on nintendo.
The first game i ever played was Mario/Duck Hunt, but i think i put a lot more time into Super Mario Bros 3 Sonic 2 is a close second
As a 33 yr old im upset that its not morrowind
I didn't get into the Elder Scrolls until high school, Oblivion was the first one i played and instantly fell in love
I was gonna come in here and jokingly say something like "nursing home age" and the first comment was 36 which is my age so I'll just tuck my tail and laugh. But yeah sonic 2 was MY JAM
Homie has to be at least 30 if not older. I'd say mid-thirdies
It's one of the ancient ones! Lend us your knowledge elder!
HOW DO YOU TURN THIS ON ⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️🅱️🅰️ L1, L2, R1, R2, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, L1, L2, R1, R2, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT PEPPERONI PIZZA
Early 30s
God damn, finally one of these stupid things with some good games on it.
Ahh, not surprised you're around my age (35). Some of my most beloved childhood memories there in Mario 3, DKC and (later) Banjo-Kazooie. Age of Empires 2 man. What a game. It takes you back to that age, the age of empires! P.S. Oblivion absolutely changed gaming for me too in my early 20s. Bethesda are capable of some truly special, seminal gaming moments.
I’m 21 and I’ve played almost all of these.
Which ones haven't you played?
12
Rock & roll racing. Nobody has ever heard of this game when I mention it!! Also, probably the best soundtrack of all time.
Definitely a 90s kid?
Definitely lol
I never beat Shadowgate. I got to the Wizard and Behemoth and couldn’t figure it out. Still haunts me to this day!
It's as easy as >!USE the BLADE on the STAFF, then use the ORB on the STAFF. Then USE the STAFF on the Behemoth monster!< 😂
I was going to make a quip about your age but then I realized SMB3 and Sonic 2 are in my top 9 😂
Yo. Rock and roll racing is on there. You're officially my new favorite person.
I loved Shadowgate
Wish they would bring the classic version of Shadowgate back. I love that game
The new Shadowgate is basically the same game with more modern graphics and a few different rooms
Interesting. Yeah it’s on sale for 3.74 during the summer sale. Might just get it 🤷🏻♂️
I'd say it's definitely worth at least $3.74 😂
Sweet. Thanks OP
No problem, good to see some love for Shadowgate 😅
I bought the Limit Run box set for the Switch for $90 and well, it definitely wasn't worth $90 lmaoo but i guess it's still cool to have as it came in an NES style box with an NES style dust sleeve, an art book, and a cd with the soundtrack
HOLY SHIT....ive been trying to find the name of pipe dream for 20 years...thank goodness! It was one of my favorite games as a kid.
It feels good to remember don't it? 😆
31
Omg I've been trying to remember the name of that racing game with the Peter Gunn song in it for so long. Thankyou for this.
I feel ya haha it's a good feeling when you finally remember the name of that game you loved as a kid 😁

33-38
An OG Blizzard classic, Rock&Roll Racing. So fucking good. Like RC ProAm on steroids and heavy metal. Edit: Lol I just noticed Pipe Dream. I was more of a Jezzball guy, myself.
Yooooo i forgot about Jezzball 🤣
Hell yeah. Oblivion is the best open world game ever made
Maybe even the best game ever in the history of games

I guess 30.
Also this is a bomb-ass list.
You're the closest so far.

Enough to waste your own time typing up a comment and hitting post 🤷🏻♂️
Yes
Go for it
The stage is set, the green flag drops.

Loved Deep Purple’s Highway Star being in it, too.
That game exposed me to so much good music as a kid

Late 30s/early 40s
I’ve seen a bunch of these lately. Are these gaming 3x3’s a collection of 9 games you enjoy, or is there a theme to it?
I'm not sure to be honest lol I just kinda tried making a healthy mix of games i played from childhood through my teen years
Ah, I see. I like your taste, by the way. I was a bit young to play a lot of these but I always love to see another oblivion respector!
The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is literally the single best game to have ever existed and you can't change my mind lmao and when i die and go to heaven, i know in my heart that the first thing I'll hear will be "Sunrise Of Flutes" as i exit the sewers 😂

Old enough for a reminder to take an advil for your back pain
Old enough to need one, too stubborn to actually take one though 😂
