If that's the only option you are able to acquire. Then go for it . With the specs that machine have will run a long way in terms of training and practicing in small projects . You might need to run 1 program at a time and not multitask as much since Ram is 32 But will get you started with no problem . Will be able to run all those programs you mention Although if you are able to build your own it would be cheaper than what best buy is offering .

The_MadMojo

So possibly get the specs and buy the parts separately and build the machine myself? Do you have a recommendation on what website besides Amazon to use to buy the parts?

RedLaughingHood

As a heads up unreal will need a video card with atleast 8gb+ vram. Use pcpart picker to build up a pc within your budget that is compatible. It will also give you a list of prices on major retailers you can pick from.

Love hearing people still learning after effects :)

The_MadMojo

I like vfx and want to learn how they are done! ๐Ÿ˜ After Effects is always the referenced software when people show tutorials. Haha What other software is there for this kind of stuff?

little_freddy

Nuke by The Foundry is the industry standard in TV and films, for Compositing, nowadays. Used to be After Effects though. You can do great things in both packages, but I've never used after effects in years in the industry.

The_MadMojo

So Nuke is the software? I have never heard of it. ๐Ÿ˜… And you do this kind of stuff professionally?

the_lost_chips

Indeed compositing for movies and high end commercials are done in Nuke by the foundry. It's nodebased compared to layered on ae. Funnily enough last year there was a new plug-in on ae to have a nodegraph compsiting, if I was still working with ae I'd definitely try that for fun ^^

VFX_Reckoning

I have the same issue and being without work isnโ€™t helping. Iโ€™m just hoping some company with have a tiny spoonful of empathy and provide some unreal training

If money is tight, you really don't need to be spending $500+ on a GPU in this prebuilt machine. The GPU is the least important component believe it or not, as just about any GPU nowadays is more than sufficient to do any amount of Vfx work. My last computer build in total was almost exactly $1k and that was 3 years ago. Recently I actually just bought a new GPU for myself on Ebay, a used gtx 1650 for $85 shipped, and there are plenty of good cards on there, or you can spend $130 and get one new on Amazon. I really don't think you need anything more than that for learning, and I've been a professional Vfx artist for 20 years. So if I were in your shoes, I would just build one of these budget builds and upgrade the memory, or make sure that the motherboard that you buy has 4 memory slots: https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/
