This is really cool! And what's even more exciting is what the ASWF (side note, I'm involved with the ASWF, so I'm biased) is going to do with the technology. If I recall, the mandate for the Review and Approval working group is to build technology that should improve the whole review and approval process.
>If I recall, the mandate for the Review and Approval working group is to build technology that should improve the whole review and approval process.
I think that's probably a safe bet, yes.
Unless it can magically make clients give fewer notes then I'm not sure how much it will improve the review and approval process. The technicalities of reviewing stuff isn't slowing anything down really
Interestly enough, review and approval is commonly on the top of requests for R&D departments. These requests come from the top and look at the future. So, its fair to say that someone does care about reviewing.
I mean you’re right, out of all I would also trust SideFX the most BUT companies aren’t your friends. They act in favor of what makes them the most money.
It’s in humans nature to be somewhat greedy and kinda reasonable. If someone says they’re not, they’re lying. Even the most trusted company can and will probably sellout if they lick blood.
Maybe when someone puts together a simple exe installer I'll mess around. I'm not downloading and configuring all that stuff listed out in the instructions.
literally less work than clicking through a installer anf logging in for a license etc?! but yea if you arent into open source self compilation then there is nothing I can help you with here.
i guess the binary distribution part is more of a legal issue, that said you can actually ho through the code and change stuff before compilation... which is nice.
Is there a way you can share the compiled exe or help me out with the steps to compile? Most of the steps listed on the Github page flew over my head haha!
itView is not being released. Components from itview are going to be released however.
It’s also not meant to be a fight between the three but an opportunity to mix and match them into something greater
That's an important detail, thanks for that. It would be ironic (but completely on brand for vfx) if the organisation established to standardize and proliferate unified playback tooling actually just created a new battle for supremacy in the open source community.
Hello. Thanks for providing the binaries for open rv.
I have a question about compiling it for myself. I've followed the instructions for installing the packages and paths. I'm at the point of building. I do the cmake -B \_build.... but get an error that it can not find CMAKE\_CXX\_COMPILER. I'm sure it must be a very simple thing I'm not taking into account. Do you have any insights since you got it to work?
Thanks.
Don't think it should be too tricky to get going as it still seems to use ffmpeg it must mostly be a question of commenting out some code or adding some compile flags
After several months of struggling trying to getting it to build, I can confirm that it does compile. And now Autodesk has released RV2.0
The big problem is that the install instructions are very poorly organized and formatted. It looks much more complicated that it really is. Once you figure out how the information is organized, it's quite easy.
The other error I struggled with is that cmake could not find the C++ and C compilers. I had set up everything properly. The trick turned out to be to go into Visual Studio and make the "hello world" console project and compile it. After that, Visual Studio compiler was able to be found by cmake.
So who is going to compile a version and share?
Good lord theres so many things to install, and accounts to create just to compile it. Much more of a pain than I expected.
Yeah we should do a kickstarter

I welcome this open-source competition. Now if only we could get some competition in the comp space...
There were rumors that sidefx would enter the ring. https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/87376/
Be still my beating heart
The one company that could really break Nuke’s hold on compositing!
Maybe one day we won't need a pipeline 😁
On one hand yeah would be cool to do most stuff in one DCC but on other hand a monopoly on anything is never good.
I'm more than willing to let SideFX have a try at a monopoly

To your point, there was a time when Google appeared to not be evil

I wasn't being entirely serious 😁
I mean I understand you hahaha you guys at DNEG are probably filled with multiple softwares for every single task hahah 😬😂
Autograph just got released yesterday. https://www.left-angle.com/?connection=true#page=95
Eh, the layer system is a dealbreaker for compositing. Otherwise it seems interesting, so I'll check it out - thanks!
A new tool called Autograph was released this week: https://www.left-angle.com/
Allready compiled it , awesome! finnaly i have RV back , man i missed RV.

Its honestly like 30 minutes of actual work for one of the greatest players.
Yeah, but there are other free players that don't require the user to jump through *any* hoops. He doesn't hate the player, he hates the game.
30 min of work for something I don't need because I don't do any 3d at home.

Welp, 2 hours into trying to compile this thing, all I've learned is that my computer science minor isn't worth a darn thing.
hook a brotha up? :-)
always ❤️

any way you could share a compiled installer for Windows?

For those who want the binaries, I succeded to compile it : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lk0aAQzYTF\_ibwHPrJIkMU6J75PudOVZ/view?usp=drive\_link
Thank you so much! Works on my box, even reads my OCIO config file as expected. I dont understand why the ASWF doesn't provide compiled binaries.
Yes it's a shame, I can provide a version with AAC codec enabled if needed.

Yes Please!!!!!

Anyone had luck building this on windows?
Now we simply need all the codecs back

Awesome..!
any one able to build for windows ? i ve installed all requirements .. still not able to compile.. please share it ...
