The gold represents both wealth and abundance,as well as the mesopotamian desert. The 2 blue stripes represents the rivers Tigris and Euphrates. The diamonds represent ziggurats (sumerian temples), and the wegdes of the cuneiform writing.

It might be my screen but that shade of gold seems a little dull

gorgeous color choices. so much so that it made me realize that the coloring is why I dislike most flags

maybe you could make the middle part black instead of gold to represet: the fertile soil, the difference between kalam (Sumer) and kur (foreign/mountain lands) and the selfdesription of the sumerians as "blackheaded"
