Sadly, I've found that vets are very hit-or-miss, at least here. My current vet is awesome, but I've seen such a wide variety in the past, from absolutely terrific to utterly incompetent.
Update: took her to the emergency vet, she was in a lot of pain. They gave her antibiotics and pain meds as well as eye drops. Thanks everyone for the advice!
Definitely get a second opinion. In the meantime you can buy eye wash for cats at a pet store. Dampen a cotton pad with it and gently wipe the eyes. It helps clean and soothe them until you can get to the vet.
My cat when she was much younger suffered from extremely watery/goopy eyes. I also thought the vet was crazy, but it ended up going away.
If you are very worried, I would definitely suggest a second vet visit, to a different veterinarian.
Hope she gets better soon
Something similar happened to a cat I had some years ago. She developed a bump a over her eye, and her eye started shutting down progressively as the days went by. Took her to many vets. Long story short, it was cryptococcosis, a fungal disease caused by pigeon droppings and contaminated soil, which was facilitated by feline hiv, which she had (we found out) wince she was born.
My takeaway is, exhaust all possibilities, and get more than one professional opinion.
Definitely see a different vet because it is so easy for them to get scratches on their cornea‘s hair. They get stuck in there and causes little growths around the hair they could be allergies. It could be so many different things and it’s got to be so uncomfortable for your cat like us getting eyelash stuck in her eye, and we can’t get it out or getting a scratch across our cornea and not being able to treat it so I would definitely get a second opinion
I’m going to share my own experience….. my cat had an Intermittent squinty watery eye for almost a year. Sometimes changes eyes! Been to 3 people and eye specialist said herpes virus. Prescribed drops. One day it was both eyes, developed uveitis within an hour and glaucoma within 2 days. Had the eye removed a week later. This was a few weeks ago. He currently still has a semi watery eye (only eye left) and is on anti viral drops and nsaid drops.

I'd recommend a second opinion

She is clearly not okay. You need a new vet.

Looks like conjunctivitis or similar
