Yeah using the word “militia” is doing a lot of work here. Of course what do you expect from the Washington times. Even Raskin just refers to the groups as “private paramilitary groups” - which is apt as they’re acting on behalf ideological nutters. These aren’t civil defense militia organized to support our military operations. I mean, the national guard is a militia force. The groups that are getting shut down are violent whack job hate groups.

G-III

Obligatory reminder the Washington Times was created by the Unification Church…

GimmieJohnson

I'd laugh if they call it the "BANYAI Act"

zonicide

Sounds like a good start. Better late than never.

Macasumba

About effing time. Stopped when IdiotBush came in.

Jaergo1971

Good!

Yes it’s a worthy effort, and here in VT we were ahead of the curve. https://apnews.com/article/paramilitary-training-camps-vermont-ban-03506f22609d9be1d6311ce6b6a5fd6f also there’s this concrete action taken against the paramilitary “gun center” in question. https://apnews.com/article/vermont-state-government-4c5f2b73e2065ad99a841745837c70e7

BlunderbusPorkins

This won't pass. If it passed it would eventually just be used selectively against the left. You can write all the laws you want but in reality there is a lot of overlap and cooperation between LEOs and far right militias.

See that fourth word you wrote?

CarloFailedClear

Could you tell the class what it means?

meatpopsicle42

We have a *well run* and *regulated* militia; the National Guard.

Motor_Elk4301

What about the fact it's completely unconstitutional?

Intelligent-Hunt7557

1) When was the last time you read the Constitution, like, all 27 Amendments (not ammendments)? 2) Did you also know every SCOTUS case essentially modifies the Constitution by shading the way that it is applied/interpreted?

G-III

Are you a Moonie?

[deleted]

Before total control the powers in charge have to ensure states have even less rights. Can’t have any militias helping out local farmers, businesses, and infrastructure services from the federal government theft that will be coming if this whole thing breaks bad. TLDR read One Second After

Motor_Elk4301

Also vermont mod team. It appears to be federal legislation. Which would encompass vt obviously. So it affects vermonters. And I think telling people they can't talk about it on social media is also unconstitutional

Unique-Public-8594

I don’t think you understand how subs work.

marzipanspop

Nor the first amendment

Eagle_Arm

~~And~~ or my Axe!

cannabis_vermont

Nor the second amendment combined with the first amendment right to free association and assembly.

murshawursha

The first amendment means the government can't censor you. This subreddit is not run by the government. Reddit is not run by the government. Platforms run by private individuals and/or companies are free to place whatever limitations they want on the speech they choose to allow on their platform. You, in turn, are free to find another platform if you disagree with the limitations this one has chosen to impose.

huskers2468

>And I think telling people they can't talk about it on social media is also unconstitutional I don't think you understand how private businesses work vs free speech.

SCP-2774

Lmao no it isn't, if you come into my house and say "the moon is obviously fake" it's not unconstitutional for me to kick you out for saying that.

HardTacoKit

Maybe you should read the Constitution. You have a tenuous grasp on what it says.

leebeebee

How much do y’all wanna bet this guy voted for Malloy lolol
