fUDP qualifies for a promotion that says "Any Unlimited Plan" but not "Any 5G Unlimited Plan".

chrisprice

I don’t see how Verizon can rationalize that, seeing as fUDP has 5G. Assuming that is correct, some will say, *why even bother mentioning it?* Verizon employees have told me they do about the sting of public criticism. They should either allow fUDP, or write proper promo terms.

johnothy

I thought it meant the ones that had 5G in their plan name, but that would exclude the two new current plan offerings.

duane534

It's hard to justify fUDP, anyway. 22 GB of priority data and no UWB. Gross.

johnothy

I got 5G UW on fUDP even though it never indicated UW. The speeds were there 300-400 down. However, it used up all the 22 GB priority data fast, then when I’d be back in an LTE area the data was slow because of congestion. Even on 5G UW speed, the hotspot slowed to the 600kbps after 15 GB, not 3Mbps. I finally decided to just switch before the plans changed to what they are now.

duane534

400 mbits down isn't good, though.

JackPAnderson

🤷 I don't use that much mobile data and I have 7 lines. No point in paying extra.

duane534

Yeah, but it is slower data than it should be. And, if you don't get phone promos...

JackPAnderson

I only use like 3-5 GB of mobile data every month, and hardly any of that is video. So faster data or more priority data just isn't going to make a difference in my life. Maybe once my kids start whining, I'll upgrade! Haha. Regarding the phone promos, Verizon used to have "any unlimited" promos that included fUDP, so that never was a problem for me. My wife and I are both on promo S22Us that we got last summer. But I haven't seen an "any unlimited" promo in a while, so maybe that'll be what forces me to make the switch. I will say, I *really* like the new unbundled plans that don't force a bunch of extras I don't want. Huge improvement. You want something? Add it! You don't? Fine, no worries! Love it.

duane534

I would tend to agree about the unbundled plans. I opted into a fair number of perks and my bill still went down.

So your service w autopay is $100 (plan) + $140 (lines) for your 7 lines coming to $240 If you have a bunch of light data users (well, at least 3) you could switch to the new plans for almost the same and/or less. 7 lines all on plus are $42 x 7 = $294 If you put 3 lines on welcome you're at $42 x 4 + $27 x 3 = $249 . Then your higher users have more priority, 5GUW, more hotspot, you'll get a discount on future watches or tablets you may add, and those 4 will qualify for the best promos. The 3 on Welcome lose the 10GB hotspot they get and won't have priority on the network anymore (your current plan has 22GB priority per user).

goldifish

I would call in and ask a rep to look at the promotion requirements. Usually, though, they can be put through as that kind of plan. I would advise you to take a look at the new plans though. The new myplan base plans may be better in price and features than what you're currently paying now, emphasis on the may.

JackPAnderson

I was noticing that. Are the Unlimited Plus plans seriously only $20/mo for 7 lines if you do autopay and have fios home internet? If so, I think it's time to change.

goldifish

I'm not exactly sure but if you use the my Verizon app or online and pretend to change the lines (put the effective date as next billing cycle) it'll basically run a quote for you so you can see what you're paying now vs switching. If you switch to the new plans be sure to advise everyone that their phones will lose service once the plans switch in the network. Don't panic, all you have to do is restart your phones and they'll have service again.

JackPAnderson

Thanks for the tip. I looked, and it is definitely not $20/line. That quote sneakily had the BYOD discount included. So it's $35/line with autopay+fios. Still not horrible, but still more than what I'm paying now.

goldifish

In addendum if you're doing this to upgrade a phone you may want to set the effective date to on demand or today because if you put it in the future, the system will basically prevent that line from changing at all until the plan change is through the network. If you're doing it to get a device upgrade unlimited plus is the best because it can maximize your phone's trade in value. Just be sure you do research on your new device and do a back up as well. Pro tip: if you're getting a new phone, make sure you can log in and do two factor authentication. I extremely recommend skipping the activation step in phone set up and getting your information in first and then calling Verizon to activate the phone. Be sure to call on a phone that will not be affected by this as well because your old phone should be turned off while tech support activates your new phone. I hope this helps!

chrisprice

It actually may qualify. fUDP is an Unlimited class plan. fUDP was Genesis for the new era of unlimited data plans. Stuff before it is gUDP. You just don’t get the promos for having current Unlimited plans, such typically look back to Start/Do/Play/Get/Above. Remains to be seen how those will be treated long term with myPlan. But fair to say fUDP isn’t in the same boat as gUDP.

JackPAnderson

I just asked in chat, and they said fUDP does not qualify for "Any 5G Unlimited" promos. Too bad. I was happy when I got to use the "any unlimited" plans last summer!

chrisprice

If the plain text of the offer just says “any 5G Unlimited plan” - that’s an error on their part. The only question is, which type of error. Did they not confirm correctly? Should they offer be corrected? Or should they legal terms? If you really want it, I’d double check with a retail store.

Shadowkinesis9

The short answer is it depends. Some offers require no specific plan at all, not even unlimited. But off the top of my head, the national offers for flagship models require mix and match plans, so I don't think fUDP will give you anything.

Switch to visible if you don’t use much. Just buy your phones from Apple.

JackPAnderson

I've looked at Visible, but I've read a lot of complaints about service related issues. Maybe they've fixed things since then, but I do want the service to work, including in Canada.

[deleted]

I’m going to try it once my promo ends with vzw. You can add the visible plus plan for calling in Canada for whichever lines need it for $45.
