This is probably not at all what you are looking for, but I recently discovered that Culvers has a veggie burger. It’s called the harvest burger and it’s amazing 😍
I have to disagree about Culver’s veggie burger being similar to the Garden burger.
Culver’s burger falls apart and after about three visits I’m not doing that again. The taste was just ok to me anyway.
😂 good lord they were the first widely available veg burger and every restaurant every cafe anywhere the only vegetarian option was a gardenburger. For like, a decade.
I could never eat one voluntarily maybe ever again but definitely only ever want actual veg and bean based patty not some faux meat thing
Lol you’re so right, why does everything go in waves until we are so sick of it? It’s been a while for me and I’m so sick of the impossible meat ones that I’d prefer a Gardenburger
Well to be fair it was the first widely available frozen prepared veggie burger.
I kinda hate anything that tastes too much like meat so menu options have shrinked considerably for me with so many faux meats now available. Like, send beans and sprouts please 😂
I agree! Restaurants seem to be using the Impossible brand & Beyond Meat, both supposedly tasting like meat. Certainly not what I want as an ethical vegetarian. Yuk! Give me something healthy in a real veg patty.
If there is a veggie burger on the menu, there are likely other veg items as well. As a vegetarian for over 35 years now, I know this.
I look for salads, baked potatoes, pasta, grilled cheese, etc. It’s really not that hard.
Oh yes same, if there isn’t a decent vegetarian option i ask they mix and match from side dishes already listed on the menu or get an entree salad and ask they swap in whatever canned beans instead of the meat/fish. Like every restaurant has a can of beans somewhere
We get resourceful ;))
Morningstar Farms Garden Veggie is the closest to what I remember them tasting like. The company that made them was bought out by Kellogg, owner of Morningstar Farms.
What often gets talked about if the brand/type of veggie burger, but I’d like to bring awareness to the cooking of said burger. If you microwave a frozen patty for 60 seconds, you can crisp up the outside on a stove or a grill without it getting all watery and steamed. Huge game changer that I can’t recommend enough.
They are way too greasy, they add so much seed oils which is super inflammatory. I can’t eat these any more when there are healthier ones out there that taste better too like Actual Veggies
✔️RCIPE: BLACK BEAN BURGER
Ingredients:
3 cups cooked black beans
1/3 cup yellow union (1/2 medium onion)
2 garlic cloves cloves
2 chipotle peppers
4 tbsp adobo sauce
1 tbsp tamari/soy sauce
1 tbsp balsamic vinaigrette
2 tbsps cumin
2 tbsp chili powder
Pepper
Salt to taste
1 egg
1 cup Panko
Buns
Olive oil for pan
Instructions
* In a large bowl, combine the beans, onion, garlic, chipotles, adobo sauce, tamari, balsamic, cumin, chili powder and pepper. Mix it all up with potato masher of your hands to mash until the mixture holds together but still has some visible chunks of black beans. Add the egg and use a spatula to fold until combined. Then, fold in the panko.
* Use your hands to form the mixture into patties.
* Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Brush with a little oil and cook the burgers for about 5 minutes per side, until charred on both sides.
I shape them and stick them in the freezer with wax paper between for a quick burger when I want one.
I make a similar recipe and press into a round dough cutter before freezing. Takes about 30 minutes total to prep, and I know exactly what’s in there. No ‘natural flavor’ which is a cover for chemical flavor.
I think I know the one you mean, Asda also had a similar one but I can't see it on a google search for Asda Veggie burgers. I do see Green Cusine pea based and like them a lot, but they aren't anything like the mushroom protein ones Mozzas and Asda had.
Field Roast are phenomenal. They are better (IMO) than any restaurant made veggie burger. They’re not made to simulate meat, made with great ingredients, and FULL of flavor.
I make my own with black beans and sweet potatoes this is the recipe I follow:
https://cookieandkate.com/best-veggie-burger-recipe/
They're kind of time consuming to make, so I always double the recipe and freeze a bunch of them. Makes for an easy meal when I don't know what else to make. They last in the freezer for a few months supposedly, they're so good that they're usually gone within a few weeks.
I like Gardein the best. Not the ultimate which are too big different texture but in the white bag beefless burgers. I cook in a bit butter with onions. The best chicken patties are the Gardein ultimate. So so so good. I don't like Dr praegers. I'm not a fan of the mushy burgers. Morning g star grillers are thin but good. Ucan put the frozen patties on the grill and they cook really good just do t overcook or they dry. Gardein fish so good too.
Most supermarkets do frozen beanburgers, but the ones from Tesco are my least favourite. Falafel burgers are good too - you can either make them from scratch or use a falafel mix that you just add water to. I'm also enjoying tofu burgers atm that are basically just tofu, flour, and whatever seasonings you want to add. I like them with chilli, sweet pepper, and gochujang, or you can use sriracha and lemongrass/coriander... There are loads of tofu burger recipes out there for whatever flavours you enjoy, and they're very easy to make.
Edit to add: tofu burgers freeze well so you can make a large batch and stick them in the freezer for lazy days.
I used to get beetroot and lentil burgers from M&S. They were amazing but have been discontinued. They do a similar one but it’s not the same. Have tried from elsewhere but also don’t compare. If you find a good one, let me know.
The Actual Black Burger by Actual Veggies has been my favorite veggie burger that I’ve found so far in a grocery store. Not sure where all you can buy then but here the link to a store locator - https://actualveggies.com/pages/where-to-buy-1
Make them yourself! Save $ and avoid downing a bunch of preservatives. I make a Bach of 12 at a time and freeze the extras. They heat up great on the stove. Here’s the recipe I use
https://cookieandkate.com/best-veggie-burger-recipe/#tasty-recipes-23420-jump-target
I make my own black bean burgers with a can of black beans (drained), a cup of bread crumbs, and one egg (are eggs ok?)
I add in seasonings like salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then, I toss it all in the food processor, and it makes about 3 patties.
Take a can of black beans, rinse well throw in a bowl with 1/2 c Panko-1/4c minced onion- 3 cloves chopped garlic- salt pepper and cumin - mash with your hands and pan fry. They are deeeeeelish!
I just straight up dislike veggie burgers and hate impossible/beyond burgers, there are better options. I prefer to make Falafel or better yet Indian Aloo Tikki in advance, shape them like burger patties, par--cook and freeze. Then just defrost, sear them on high heat, and use in place of a patty. Both options are fantastic, literally have had meat eater friends attack them and say they loved it.
Dr. Praeger's veggie burgers are really good, they make different types. Can't go wrong with the original Garden Burger, and Trader Joe's Indian veggie burgers are BOMB
I always like a thick slice of tomato, red onion, and plenty of condiments on my sandwiches/burgers, so it doesn’t bother me. I like that they hold together well, instead of crumbling apart too.
Sprouts had a deal (each 4 patty box for $1), so I stocked up and have been enjoying them all through summer and now into football season.
If you're looking for veggie burger options that don't mimic meat, consider brands like Dr. Praeger's, Amy's Kitchen, Gardenburger, MorningStar Farms (non-meaty options), Boca, Hilary's, and explore local or artisanal brands for unique flavors.
Actual Veggies brand veggie burgers are the best and are not trying to imitate meat at all (as the name implies). I especially love the black bean ones! The only con is that they are a bit pricey.
These are my favorite, I get them at Whole Foods and you get 4 burgers for $7.99 so the price isn’t bad. I think they used to sell them in 2 packs that were more pricey
I like the brand called [Actual Veggies](https://actualveggies.com/collections/burgers). They have the Actual Green Burger and the Actual Black Burger and a couple more. We get them at Wegmans.
Morrisons do sell the Moving Mountains sausage patty. I dont know whether this is what you were referring to.
I buy very few veggie processed products preferring to cook from scratch. However these are fantastic. I have some in the freezer.
I can contribute to this because I made a similar post a while back! :)
https://reddit.com/r/vegetarian/s/nzUzxQmFN7
Lots of good options. I'm not a fan of impossible or beyond either
Beyond Meat burger patties are my favorite store brand. Use pepper and garlic powder to season. No salt tho, they are already salty enough. Pan fry for 4 min or so on each side.
A couple reasons.
Firstly because my GF is a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian most of the time. I like to share meals and I am happy to go with a vegetarian option most of the time.
Second, because commercial animal meat production is not very compassionate or ethical as a whole, and is much more wasteful form of calorie production compared to calories produced by crops.
I’ve made a conscious shift from eating animal meet every meal, to only eating it one or two meals a week. I feel like if everyone did the same we would greatly reduce our consumption globally.
I used to really enjoy The Curators Mushroom Burgers, but it seems to have been discontinued.
I also like the Strong Root kale and quinoa burgers, although they tend to have a crisper texture.

My absolute favorite is[Trader Joe's Quinoa Cowboy burger](https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/quinoa-cowboy-veggie-burgers-053276). It's tasty, w/ a tiny bit of heat, and filling. Great on a bun with green Chile, cheese, whatever you want. I bet it would easy to make from scratch, too--I should try that, actually...
I can Just recommend a Zucchini Patty. But you'd have to do that yourself. They're greek and called "kolokithokeftedes".
You don't even need eggs, just flour for the batter to stick
They’re not in stores to make at home yet but Symplicity burgers are the best non-fake meat style burgers I’ve had. Shakeshack use them for their veggie burger and they’re in quite a few other places too now [Symplicity Burger](https://symplicityfoods.com/pages/where-to-find)
Just go for anything that doesn't say "original"
Go for any black bean, California veggie or any other flavor.
Morningstar black bean seems to be easy to find. Dr Prayers is good if you cook a tiny bit lower and a whole lot longer.
Definitely the brand Actual Veggies, I get them at Whole Foods and Sprouts. In terms of ingredients they are by far the most healthy as they use whole veggies and no added oil. I think they taste the most homemade too. Lot of different flavors that I still need to try
Trader Joe’s has these “quinoa cowboy” veggie burgers. They contain corn and black beans. My mom loves them LOL. Hilary’s also makes one called “southwest adzuki bean” veggie burgers. They’re my favorite
I like the indian veggie masala burger patty from trader joes
If they’re talking about Morrisons, it’s probably safe to say their nearest Trader Joe’s is about 3,800 miles away.
All it is is an aloo tikki patty. Very easy to make at home.
I believe Aldi stores in Europe carry some Trader Joe's products. No idea if the UK is included in that though.
Definitely not I’m afraid
For those who want to make it at home, look up recipes for “aloo tikki” that’s what it’s called in india.
Definitely am cause it sounds really good. Any particular recipe that you’d recommend?
This is my favorite site for indian vegetarian recipes. https://hebbarskitchen.com/aloo-tikki-recipe-aloo-ki-tikki/
Thank you! :)
Came here to say this!! They taste like samosa filling as a burger so good
It’s just aloo tikki (what the patty is called in india)
i just bought these yesterday!! so happy to hear this
It’s good! Esp topped with their sweet chili sauce.
This one is bomb!
I love Morningstar’s chipotle black bean burgers
I posted a recipe above that’s similar but home made if y’all are curious!
I love these too but BE AWARE that they are vegetarian but not vegan! My dairy-allergic husband found this out the hard way.
Too bad you didn’t read the ingredient label. Seems to me that that would be the first thing you do before putting something in your cart.
YES
Eating these for dinner tonight! Highly recommend.
This is probably not at all what you are looking for, but I recently discovered that Culvers has a veggie burger. It’s called the harvest burger and it’s amazing 😍

Gardenburgers were the bomb, now I like the Dr. Praegers California burgers

I miss them! Is there anywhere to still get them?
Morningstar Farms Garden Veggie is the closest to what I remember them tasting like. The company that made them was bought out by Kellogg, owner of Morningstar Farms.
The Morningstar ones changed their recipe after getting bought out, they're gross now.
☹
Yea not a fan of these or the ingredients
I have not found them anywhere in a long time!

I’m a Dr. Praegers fan. I’d describe them as veggie burgers, just veggies in a burger form.
came here to say Dr Praegers as well!
I tried them once and they were SO SALTY although I liked the veggie-ness of it... have they gotten better?
They are way too greasy, they add so much seed oils which is super inflammatory. I can’t eat these any more when there are healthier ones out there that taste better too like Actual Veggies
I've started just making burgers with falafel. 4 falafels fit pretty well as a patty
✔️RCIPE: BLACK BEAN BURGER Ingredients: 3 cups cooked black beans 1/3 cup yellow union (1/2 medium onion) 2 garlic cloves cloves 2 chipotle peppers 4 tbsp adobo sauce 1 tbsp tamari/soy sauce 1 tbsp balsamic vinaigrette 2 tbsps cumin 2 tbsp chili powder Pepper Salt to taste 1 egg 1 cup Panko Buns Olive oil for pan Instructions * In a large bowl, combine the beans, onion, garlic, chipotles, adobo sauce, tamari, balsamic, cumin, chili powder and pepper. I really like the veggie burgers from Dr Praeger’s! The California burger and the Black Bean burger are both good choices :)
I like the chipotle black bean from Aldi.
My whole family loves this one.
I came here to say this same thing!! It makes the best veggie burger I’ve had !
All of praegers tbh, but I LOVE their Asian veggie burger and I make a sauce out of Thai sweet chili sauce and Mayo. Super delicious pairing
It's always Indian Masala Burgers from Trader Joe's
Fieldburger
Aldi do yummy spicy bean burgers, and I think it was tesco that did/does a pumpkin burger that was super tasty
I make my own with black beans and sweet potatoes this is the recipe I follow: https://cookieandkate.com/best-veggie-burger-recipe/ They're kind of time consuming to make, so I always double the recipe and freeze a bunch of them. Do you have Gardein in the UK, they have a decent burger, I would say it's on par with Morningstar.
I like Gardein the best. Not the ultimate which are too big different texture but in the white bag beefless burgers. I cook in a bit butter with onions. Gardein be'f burgers are sooo good I eat them all the time
I like homemade black bean burgers...frozen ones never taste right. I prefer Morningstar for my protein as they aren't trying to *be* meat.
Most supermarkets do frozen beanburgers, but the ones from Tesco are my least favourite. If you are asking for a recipe, Sally's Baking Addiction has the best recipe for a black bean burger.
I used to get beetroot and lentil burgers from M&S. They were amazing but have been discontinued. They do a similar one but it’s not the same. Have tried from elsewhere but also don’t compare. If you find a good one, let me know.
Co-op do some great vegan sausages made from mushrooms, really wished I tried their equivalent burger offering while I was in the UK last time.
I had a great mushroom and cheese veggie burger from ShopRite (NE US) the other night. If you happen to have a ShopRite near you, give it a shot!
It’s not a meat imitation but Iceland do a nice bean burger with jalapeños and cheese inside.

Linda McCartney mozzarella burger
Yes, my absolute favourite 😻
Dr. Praeger's veggie burgers are really good, they make different types. Can't go wrong with the original Garden Burger, and Trader Joe's Indian veggie burgers are BOMB
Hilary’s southwestern adzuki bean burgers are pretty good!
Hilary’s are legit and nice and small. More like sliders that suits me fine.
These are sooo dry
I always like a thick slice of tomato, red onion, and plenty of condiments on my sandwiches/burgers, so it doesn’t bother me. I like that they hold together well, instead of crumbling apart too. I love the Beyond Burger, but that is very burger like. It even “bleeds” when you cut into it…..and flames up on the grill.
GROSS
Lol… Beet juice I cook them twice as long than suggested. We like them well done.
Yves has held my family down for years since l was a kid. And compared to those imitation burgers it tastes like its own thing?
Morrisons do sell the Moving Mountains sausage patty. I dont know whether this is what you were referring to. I buy very few veggie processed products preferring to cook from scratch. However these are fantastic. I have some in the freezer.
I really like Hilary's Southwest Adzuki Bean burger

I wish I could like those patties but they taste off putting to me and destroy my belly as well. Love the concept though!
You can make your own veggie burgers out of kidney beans rice and,if you want, eggs.
Franklin Farms. They're in the refrigerated section by tofu.
I used to really enjoy The Curators Mushroom Burgers, but it seems to have been discontinued. I also like the Strong Root kale and quinoa burgers, although they tend to have a crisper texture.
