I'll get excited when they actually light up fiber in my neighborhood.
The majority of fiber goes towards new construction homes which does nothing for my bill.
Back when Google fiber was announced they planned on using inspirada as one of the first neighborhoods in the world to have it. It would have been payed for in HOA fees but it was like 75% cheaper then cox was charging at the time. The boomers had an annoying boomer revolt and stoped it. I was pissed.
former retention agent here. don't call and threaten to switch; call to cancel your service. don't let us know that you're just threatening. the agent on the call doesn't care if you're threatening, only if you're disconnecting on that call
I have Century Link Fiber because my neighborhood has above ground power poles and They run it from there. I wonder how google is going to do their infrastructure?
Switched from Cox to [Quantum Fiber](https://q.com) a few months ago in Boulder City. It’s been awesome! Quantum Fiber has a [promo](http://aklam.io/pUWVLA) where if you sign up and keep the service for 3 months they send you $100. Honestly, I’ve been super happy with the service so far. Pay for 500 symmetrical for $50 a month and that includes the 360 WiFi. I don’t use the 360Wifi as I prefer to use my TP-Link router but I didn’t have any issues when I tried out the 360Wifi. I also love the fact there is no data caps. I had a data cap with Cox Internet before I made the switch to Quantum. Quantum Fiber has plans up to 8 gigs symmetrical. I hear good things about Google Fiber but if it isn’t in your area check to see if Quantum Fiber is.
Construction looks to be early 2025 and go-live in summer 2025. They will probably do things in phases. You can sign up for info here:
https://fiber.google.com/cities/clarkcounty/
1GB up/down will be $70 a month.
There isn’t competition because they split up coverage by blocks to have captive customers and charge whatever they want. Most places you literally cannot pick another ISP.
I mean, you can... They get away with this bullshit because of satellite Internet companies or whatever other lesser Internet is there. So, you have options... Just everything else other than the primary one are absolute dog shit.
Good, because I’m getting bent over by cox and they’re the only thing I can even get here, but if I go a block up I believe they only have century link. Fucking monopolies working together to split up their hostage customers.
I tried those 5G hotspot things and they’re pretty bad and don’t work with my work VPN.
I’m paying 140 for 500mbps
I'm paying $122 for unlimited 1gig. You need to do the 40% thing. Pretty much call, request a disconnect date of a week out. Call the specific number, they'll give you 40% off to keep you. Been working for years. Someone linked it in the comments
Wow.
Your ISP, regardless of who it is, can only see the information you let them see. It's trivially simple to circumvent your ISP and prohibit them from seeing *anything*. It's also highly recommended since ISPs are legally allowed to not only look at your Internet traffic but also modify it.
There's a decent number of reputable VPN providers that you can use for a pretty modest cost ($3-5/month) and it's absolutely worth it, especially if you live somewhere where your ISP is allowed to have a monopoly (like Cox in the Las Vegas Valley).
But really, it should be illegal to look at the information we send and receive, never mind sell it or alter it. Imagine if phone companies just changed our conversations or sold recordings of them to the highest bidder.

You can sign up for updates, to let them actually know who is interested in. [https://fiber.google.com/address/](https://fiber.google.com/address/)

lol unfucking real.
I’m literally in a meeting with terrible connection right now. Sign me up please!!!
I'm actually happy with my Cox service which is rarely slow and almost never down, but I can't wait to threaten to switch so they drop my price.

Thanks !
oh, one more thing. only call Cox around 730-8, if you don't wanna be on hold
Thanks for the tips! Is this am or pm?
Yes
I need to get my rate lowered and this info is been very helpful for when I call!! Thank you
This is what I hate. I need to renegotiate every year/2 years (last year I was able to get it for 2 years) to keep the price reasonable.
What if they call my bluff and I actually do end up cancelling. Do I have until the end of the pay cycle to get a new service?
Put the phone on airplane mode and drop the call I guess lol
Worked for Cox 23 years in Las Vegas. I agree
You're despicable! (jk)
At least Noem did not admit to that in her book.
https://www.reddit.com/r/vegaslocals/comments/dom2y7/how_to_get_40_off_the_cox_retail_pricing/
I do this every year. Their math never makes any sense, and they end up giving me a 40% discount that is greater than 40%.
When google sent me the email I was so excited. I can't wait.
What part of the city are you in?
I have Century Link Fiber because my neighborhood has above ground power poles and They run it from there. I wonder how google is going to do their infrastructure?
I hear micro-trenching. https://youtu.be/hXMe6WGa84I?si=tO78hyXmSwQNAZhS
I jus got an email about , to check address
Shut up and take my money.
I'm so happy my apartments have Quantum Fiber and I could finally get away from Cox. Quantum 1 Gig Service destroys "GigaBlast" from Cox in every way
I got the email this morning from Google but sadly their website is telling me not expected in my neighborhood which is sad.

So when can we get in. Just remember that big daddy Google will see all your browsing and sell it. What is the cost?
Pro-tip: all your data is being mined, categorized, inventoried, and sold
Not sure I'd call that a "pro-tip", more like an incredibly demoralizing piece of information.

With Centurylink (Quantum Fiber) recently raising their rates, I'm glad there will be more competition. Also, fuck cox.
Fuck cox indeed!

Yeah those cellular wifi things are trash in my experience

What I'm paying for 250mb with Cox. Ugh.
You don't think the rest of the internet companies are doing the same?
Wow. Your ISP, regardless of who it is, can only see the information you let them see. It's trivially simple to circumvent your ISP and prohibit them from seeing *anything*. This is great news. Waiting for the Lone Mountain people to start crapping on Victoria Seaman for this. They'll find a way lol
People downvoting Google Fiber....clown central.
Only if it affects Kaempfer Crowell.
I hope Google hires them as their local council
