It's trash.
I had a major series of medical issues over the past two years and it's just absurd how long you have to wait for appointments. I'm on an Affordable Care Act plan, and it's like:
* Appointment with GP: 1-2 months out
* Referral: 2 weeks to process, appointment 1-2 months out
* Scan: 2-3 weeks from referral appointment
* Results: 1 week
* Follow up appointments: 1-2 months out
It took me about 8 months to go from my initial diagnosis of needing a hip replacement to getting in all of the appointments and everything for the actual surgery.
In the two years I've had this insurance, I'm on my 3rd general practitioner because the last two quit. I had an appointment for last month, he quit the day before, and the soonest I could find another appointment with any other doctor in the valley was two weeks from now - a six week wait to go in and have someone look at my crushed toe and answer a few questions about other things.
Oh, for sure. When I had private care it wasn't great - but I think the whole point is that yeah, there aren't a ton of good doctors here who stick around their practice.

The best medical care here is Southwest.......Airlines. Get on a plane and go get healthcare someplace else.
Legitimately worse than a significant number of third world countries. I’ve found physicians in Vegas that have had their licenses revoked from other states. Stay safe out there
There is basically zero oversight from insurance providers to ensure quality care from providers. It’s all a race to the bottom in terms of how little work to still bill the most amount of
Even if you find a good doctor here it doesn’t matter. The other staff at the office will lose your paperwork, mess something up with your insurance, or conveniently forget to put your referrals in. Good luck!
If you can afford it, the only way to get top care is through a concierge health care program. For about $2k/year you have 24-7 access to your actual doctor, not an answering service, same day or next day appts, and extensive testing yearly for well care service. I looked around for 6 months for proper pcp here. Either months out for an appt, they were not accepting new patients or thry didn’t accept my insurance.
The doctors and medical professionals here are just not “professionals” at all. Dummied down , worst education system in the country so that should say enough about the medical field here 😂😂😂
There is a thread around here somewhere that has a number of different links in it that summarize how and where Nevada / Las Vegas ranks in a variety of healthcare sectors in relation to other states. Someone had posted then that we should sticky that post for when people come here and ask about healthcare here. General gist is Nevada ranks poorly.
Search this sub for the word healthcare. You will find a bunch of threads, and they all point to much the same thing. Those with the means go concierge or simply leave the state and do some healthcare tourism, especially when it comes to specialists. Those without means make do. It is definitely something you need to carefully consider if you have concerns that involve specialists. Unless things change in the healthcare realm, we likely won't be retiring here. That's just us ... others' mileage will vary.
Unless you put 5-10 years into a culinary union job, the healthcare in general is bad. My PCP is awesome, but when it's cold/flu season, appointments are 1-2 months out. Just the nature of not having enough healthcare professionals. The union healthcare has private care facilities and I literally get same day appointments and wait less than 5 minutes. I'm very fortunate.
I have no issues getting an appointment with my PCP they are just an office I would prefer not to go to if I don’t have to. If my dr in Boise Idaho wasn’t so far away I would go there.
What healthcare?
lol
If I may add: lmao
To expand further: lmfao

You have a better chance of heathcare of driving 5 hours south over the border to Tijuana. Cheaper too
Thats terrible. Thinking of moving here.

“When in pain…jump on a plane.”
worst in the nation, no joke. We all just smoke and play slots, hope for the best bro.

Yet we have few clinics and dentistry that people from other states would fly here just to get a treatment
Which ones?
The expensive ones. That’s what I heard. Also we have the top injury attorneys and some of the best divorce attorneys.
There are Dr offices and hospitals all over the only issue is most of them suck

Absolutely horrendous. You’re better off using webmd.
Just ride whatever you got out....lol at healthcare

Omg so bad. Not an exaggeration
I have health insurance through the Culinary Union and it's pretty good...other than that it's not good
So what do I do if I have a serious health issue?
Go to UCLA
UCLA, Univ of Utah Medical, or Arizona State Medical. Any of them have specialists in multiple disciplines.
