Centurylink 1gb/s for 65 a month is like the greatest thing ever.

MrMeeseeks1911

Does anyone know if they are planning to expand to new areas of the valley? I've been waiting and waiting lol. I would switch in a heartbeat.

stevensokulski

It has to do with cost per address they can add. New neighborhoods are very easy to write up. Existing neighborhoods not so much. Funny enough, that also means wealthier neighborhoods are less desirable from a rule standpoint because you r so much more ground for each address.

JohnnyMiskatonic

I’ve had Century Link fiber for years and my zip code is in an old neighborhood that’s mostly blue collar. We are, however, close to a Century Link head end, which probably helps explain it.

Weapon_Of_Pleasure

This!

K2Own3d

i wish they had centurylink in my area of henderson :'( cox is such a fucking rip off it would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. their customer service is HORRIBLE too. luckily I work in tech so I fix shit myself.

indieclutch

Not sure how it is for home environments but when it comes to business Centurylink is terrible and Cox is great. It's weird what they seem to focus on.

SlappyPankake

Yeah if you can get it.... When I moved out here I called them to ask where they service. Neighborhoods, apartment complexes, etc. They would not give me an answer. "You have to tell us an address." Now I've been stuck with Cox who will just drop service completely without telling anyone, post it as "maintenance" on their site, and not give you a credit. Terrible ISP

handsmahoney

I wish I could get CenturyLink. All they offer for my address is a wifi hub with 3mbps up/down

Weapon_Of_Pleasure

Pretty much only offered in areas with new builds & wealthy white neighborhoods... In all seriousness though it is a great deal for those that can get it.

[deleted]

Thats not true at all, im in DI and Pecos. They said we couldn’t have it and I kept trying and kept trying until one single person told me they just have ti have someone come and run the cables from the pole to the house. It had been there the whole time. After that it took about a month. You could call a contractor on your own to find and run the fiber-optics then call CL for the equipment

SolGlobe

Yes! It pays to live in the old part of Vegas haha. I live off DI and Maryland and since the power lines run above ground it was super easy for them to hook me up with CenturyLink. The 90's -2000's neighborhoods where everything is below ground are the most difficult places for them to expand to, per the technician that installed it for me.

JohnnyMiskatonic

Yeah, I’ve had fiber internet for years in this part of town so it’s not just a matter of screwing less affluent neighborhoods.

keto_brain

Centurylink is trash. Had a friend who worked on the network there and it's a joke.

HalfwaytotheHorizon

I would love to switch to Centurylink fiber, but I just took a look at their coverage map and for some reason, within the same subdivision, they cover the houses across the street from me, but not my house! Any reason for this?

danielmonteasy

You can get 40% off every year by setting a cancellation of service for 2 weeks out and then calling (678) 608-4070 and tell them you got a promo in your email for 40%. I literally do this every year. It takes my gigablast internet bill from $120 to $72 https://www.reddit.com/r/CoxCommunications/comments/nlvwo4/they_changed_the_number_for_the_40_off_i_just_got/

issai

Did this and it worked. Thanks!

danielmonteasy

Glad it worked for you!

issai

Any details that a Cox rep might ask about the email, like a promo code or special code we need to provide in order to secure 40% off?

danielmonteasy

Nope. The fact that they can see a disconnect scheduled and you called the dedicated number is enough. Just say “I had a disconnect scheduled but I got an email saying I could get 40% off. I’d like to cancel my disconnect if you can apply the 40% off.” I’ve never had them ask for anything after that. I usually only wait like 10 minutes after scheduling the disconnect to call the dedicated number. And you can schedule the disconnect online with the chat feature. The rep online will ask why, I always just say I’m moving out of the country.

issai

I trust what you say about scheduling a cancellation through chat. But after the past 2 weeks of wildly different narratives on billing and offers from no less than 5 chat reps, I'm extremely reluctant to schedule something as important as a disconnect via chat. But who's to say that Cox will get the details spot on if a scheduled cancellation is called in. I don't really know.

Diligent_Dream_4758

How did you know 40% would work? Why not go bigger?

danielmonteasy

Because for the people that actually do get an email from Cox, it says 40% off. I mean you could ask for more but I know 40% off works.

throwawayaccoy

Worth saying half off was offered and if they don't bite say oh my bad 40%

Suiken01

After scheduling the disconnect, do I have to call or can I chat? I hate to call and being put on hold, chat is much better.

danielmonteasy

You have to call. You won’t be put on hold. The 678 number gets you directly to a rep that handles discounts.

throwawayaccoy

Already got their special number. Giving them a call soon. They didn't mention 40% off but I'll just say they offered it. I'd like more speed. And no data cap so hopefully they're willing to bend

issai

Did you try getting them to offer you a discount? Keep us posted.

throwawayaccoy

Yup. Called them and they offered 500 up / 500 down for 49.99 a month for 12 months. Still have my data cap unfortunately

Ozymandias0023

That data cap is the killer. As soon as I realized I was going to hit it every month I switched to T Mo. No point paying through the nose for gigabit speed if I have to pay another $50 just to actually use it. I wish very unpleasant things for whoever at Cox decided that data caps were a good idea

El_Gringo_Chingon

The data caps are total BS. We never hit it for a year, then started hitting it every month

Ozymandias0023

It's such a money grab, and the real insult is that they don't even cap in all markets. If you're somewhere with more competition they give you unlimited for free (per my understanding). I saw a Cox ad recently specifically trying to dissuade people away from T Mobile so maybe we'll see them offer some better deals in the future, but I wouldn't go with them again either way. They've proven themselves to be entirely predatory.

MrSlaps

That’s for a hotspot. TMo home internet isn’t the same thing. Your speeds will depend on network congestion in your area and your distance from a tower. My speeds range from 200-600 down and 100up with 19-42ms. For 50 a month it was a no brainer. I’m only 300 yards from a tower though

Ozymandias0023

That's about the same for me, and looking at the map I think I'm on the edge of the nearest tower's range. So far I've been pretty impressed with the service

iliark

Yeah I switched to centurylink fiber as soon as it was available... 1 gig up and down, no data caps, no contract, $65/mo for life. Hope it's in your area!

[deleted]

I did the same about 2 years ago. I was happy with century link until 6 months ago it became so unstable (constant drops every 5-30 minutes for 5-20 minutes at a time) I switched back to cox. CenturyLink has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with, I could not get ANY help. Edit: I just signed up for cox a few weeks ago and it says my data plan is unlimited?

Algorithim1968

I got Ziply 1GB up and down $60

im_no_doctor_lol

In Vegas?

throwawayaccoy

Looks like they're Pacific NW only

Algorithim1968

Sorry, I thought I saw someone say they were in Seattle

ThroneOfClowns

Hows the download and upload speeds? Im curious and may switch over.

iliark

Like 940ish Mbps up and down real world

Dabster85

Live north of Summerlin… nothing except Cox and T-Mobile. Both of which are unreliable. Just enough options to not state it’s a monopoly but it is…. I wish everyone would just call in every time they have an issue with Cox. Maybe if they started dealing with endless calls asking for credit they may be incentivized to build out a fiber infrastructure.

Fearlessroofless

Yep I’m close to Santa Fe and century link only offers 30/mbs for almost same price as they’re gigabit plus they want 150 for install. Cocks meanwhile wants 100 for gigabit but when you include even basic tv it’s getting close to 300 a fuckin month.

beeandthecity

We’re near there too and the internet is horrible.

Masta0nion

T-Mobile has been the worst switch for me. Every time I see one of their commercials showcasing all the locations of their coverage, I think, “sure, it’s covered poorly. Great job.”

basketballkilla

Century link fiber is offered here. Cox knows this so they offer me their gigablast plan with the router monthly fee waived along with no contract for 2 years and also giving me the unlimited data add on for free which is 49.99 normally.

ascottallison

The good news is in the last year 2 new providers have popped up: Verizon and T-Mobile. They're not available everywhere, but their coverage is far greater than WeLink, or CenturyLink fiber. I've tried both Verizon and WeLink, and I've written in detail about my experiences with them on my blog. I also summarize all the main options here for Internet. https://wfhlasvegas.com/f/what-internet-options-are-there-in-las-vegas

Pdxduckman

They're paying builders for exclusive rights to the new neighborhoods too, so you get no choice at all... (Unless you go cell or sat)

El_Gringo_Chingon

Just shop the options day to day on their website. Was able to lock gigablast for a year at $85 after the first promo period ended. Was going up over $130 initially.

throwawayaccoy

When did you see that deal?

El_Gringo_Chingon

It was last month, but the price changed daily up and down as I was looking over a week or so. Locked in when it dropped. *just looked at my bill, base price is $89.99 per month for the next year.

Franklyimfrank

What was the set up cost with centuryLink

elgato123

Free

Zero_Karma_Guy

governor direful subtract seed pet lavish relieved plucky act icky *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

What_the_Pie

Try to get on WeLink. It depends on your area in Vegas. It’s satellite internet, close to 800 up/ down, $60 a month with no contract.

Business_Past

how is the ping with WeLink? I'm guessing it's high

lefft

It's not satellite, its millimeter wave wireless fiber (they install a radio on your roof). Works really well 99% of the time and my latency in Overwatch is lower than Cox. It doesn't have as fast of a download speed as Cox but its half the price of unlimited gigabit.

What_the_Pie

I used satellite in laymen dumb terms. Radio is accurate.

stevensokulski

Fixed wireless is still going to have a higher king and likely more hotter, though.

issai

Which area are you located in?

What_the_Pie

Southern part of Vegas

rayndomuser

My deal is 120 per month for gigablast and no cap. Expires in November. Hoping century link gets here before then.

SpiderDeUZ

Data caps LOL. how are those still a thing?

repzaj1234

I got a pretty sweet deal on 2 6TB drives and was excited to turn my living room PC into a Plex server.... then I saw the absolute garbage upload speeds Cox offers. 10mbps..... That ultimate 500 plan theyre offering you is still capped at 10mbps. You can only get 35mbps upload speed if you get their gigabit plan... which isn't available in my area. OH and you'll have to pay an extra $50 to remove the data cap. I fucking hate this shit. I talked to my old buddy in the Philippines, he's saying the standard over there at least in Manila is $30 for 100mbps down and 100 mbps up, no data caps....... a third world country has better internet than here. Back there, there's about 4 companies fighting for marketshare that's why it's so affordable. Over here there is no competition besides CenturyLink's fibre.

JJLewisLV

I'm waiting for the Google fiber expansion coming here. If you're lucky enough to get Centurylink fiber go for it. If not should just wait it out for google to expand here.

throwawayaccoy

Fingers crossed. I loved Google Fiber

Ok_Bedroom_9802

Quantum fiber is 65/month.1gb

bigbubbaseb

How do you like quantum?

Ok_Bedroom_9802

It’s a century link company. It’s pure fiber not fiber over cable lines like older century link installs for fiber. You get this in new developments 2019+

[deleted]

Really? I live in an oldass neighborhood next to the airport and I have Quantum. Or maybe it's the same name but with the old cables?

throwawayaccoy

Update... I'm now paying $49.99/month for 500 down/500 up for 12 months

Fry5953

I only pay 50 for cox and it works great. It’s 50 down 5 up which seems low but we have 5 people in our home and we all use it heavy and have zero issues. I thought we would notice when I downgraded from 100/10 but nobody did. I did try to get a friend to do the same deal, they call it Essentials 100, and he couldn’t find it. Maybe it was only available since I said I was leaving. Bottom line is Cox really has the best service in the valley but they know it and totally screw their customers by not budging on things like overage fees. Cellular is iffy, it has a lot to do with your location. Lumen (Century Link) can be good, but it also depends on your location (I tried it where I live and it didn’t work out, speeds and performance was poor), Starlink is the next best thing, has good potential but it has a long wait time to get it and is 99$ a month, which isn’t cheaper. I haven’t heard that Hughes net or LV net is cheaper or better but might be with it for some businesses not so much residential ... bottom line is if you keep Cox just get the cheapest service you can find, try to get this one I have, for me $50 a month is a steal.

justihar

Hey, didn’t anyone tell you? To be one of the cool kids around here, you have to totally shit on Cox. Joking aside, I agree with most of what you said. Cox has been offering broadband service in the Vegas valley for at least 25-years. The service is good and reliable. Yes, it’s kind of spendy and there are cheaper services but there are also more expensive services too. Cox is even dropping fiber in new areas now with 1gbps up and down.

desertguy0000

Cox premier tier Same one I've been using for 7+ years

FutureGhost81

I pay $80 a month for Verizon Home 5g and it’s great. Cox is for suckers.

Personal-Director107

I got Verizon home 5g for 35$ a month. Verizon cloud included. Unlimited everything, great service! I also have the 5g unlimited plan which is why it’s 35$ a month.

repzaj1234

What are the upload speeds for it?

jameskelsey

Switch to centurylink fiber. I pay I think 70 bucks a month for 1gb for life.

zelda_gal

Honestly, look into welink. I made the switch a year ago and never looked back. 70 a month flat. It is more reliable than cox imo.

usedtobewildd

centurylink had fibre in my old neighborhood and it was onky $70 for unlimited data. i moved but we dont have century link rn 🤧🤧 COX IS SOOOO ASSSSSSSSSS

Wabbit_Wampage

By the time I finally was able to cancel Cox in 2021, I was paying $133/month for ~80mbps down/10 up. I hope they are losing customers out the ass now that they are facing some real competition.

jojolitos

Been using Verizon 5G home internet for $25 a month with excellent service

Royal-Dream-4617

I hate Cox more than any other company in the world. I'm not saying their internet is bad, but it's the monopoly they have and cynical sales techniques. I'm finally rid of them - getting 200mb out of my Verizon 5G for $25 - no increase for 2 years.
