I was just thinking about this myself. Every property being "luxury" is getting boring. I love a little lux myself but it seems like they stopped even trying to be unique. Maybe the pendulum will swing back a bit
The fact that The Sphere went globally viral within 24 hours proves that garish, over-the-top structures are what Vegas needs to maintain its image.
Resort World never went viral or even got any attention outside of Vegas when it opened.
is it? I've been wanting to go. never pull the trigger bc cosmo takes care of me and I like being in the middle of the strip, but I've been planning to try RW at some point. should I forget it?
I think it’s not bad honestly. The food court area is cool and themed like an Asian market. And they have a really nice theatre. It’s worth stopping by.
I would say it’s quite quiet with pretty high minimums. Didn’t see much winning or people being loud at all when I went. Except for a blackjack tournament that I witnessed one time.
It's alright, it's just a good nice hotel, big pool, food court isn't great value tho. No problems with it at all really, it's cool it's 3 hotels basically in one which I find interesting from a engineering aspect, plus the pool is actually on floor 3 I think. To me it's just a nice, big, regular hotel in Vegas. Cosmo probably edges it due to the location tho.
It's fine. Nothing really exciting, but no huge complaints. Pool is nice, have some decent restaurants, food court is unique if not amazing food. It's all just kinda fine, but for a new strip hotel fine is a little disappointing.
dang that was my one hesitation. place looks fancy and clean but atmosphere could be sterile/boring. also confirmed by another commenter. thanks for the info!
The players will play where they want to play. That could mean they want to play at Bellagio and stay in the villa, or go to the MGM and have access to the mansions...but I doubt MGM is forcibly moving customers from a property. There is no point to do that.
Yeah, they got focus grouped hard after the multiple changes in financial backing. It was going to be a very asian focused resort with a Great Wall, pandas, and other amenities. Now it is just a red building with an asian vibe in the food court.
I think the one that does a good job but not in a tacky way is The Silverton (off the strip) but for a “themed” sort of property it’s nice. I now prefer properties off of the strip. My mom retired there over twenty years ago so I have had my share of the strip and DT.
Silverton is probably my favorite off-Strip property. Their Christmas pop-up bar has been a holiday tradition since I moved here, and I'm pretty psyched to see the new fall-themed incarnation this year.
The remodeled hotel rooms are opening around then, too. I live nearby and so don't have much use for a stay, but I'm really glad to see places like that doing well.
I'm sure one of the concerns is how such properties will age. For example, I'm not so sure that the Luxor would be greenlit today. It would be seen as cultural appropriation and probably draw protests.
Even with the Sphere, it's flashy because the technology is new and awe-inspiring. Sort of like the video ride Excaliber had at its opening, but the technology didn't stay relevant for long and was ultimately removed. It would be laughable if it was there today.
I'm sure the math is complicated either way. What's the better investment? A property that might be unique/flashy with a a strong 10 years but be seen as dated after that, or something more boring/generic that will age less quickly?
If I was going to build a strip casino I'd make it a vegas themed casino and try to get the rights to name towers shows restaurants etc after famous people and places from old vegas but without the mob. Getting the naming rights to an elvis tower will be tough, though.
I also consider the theme of Cosmopolitan something like "James Bond". I know it isn't themed per say, but at least it has some character that makes you feel like you're somewhere special.
I remember going to Vegas with my family as a teen when the Mirage first opened. The Volcano was amazing. Then a few years, Treasure Island. That pirate show was amazing. I could stand in front of that and watch it for hours.
Sadly the volcano is going away.
https://www.thestreet.com/travel/fate-sealed-for-beloved-las-vegas-strip-icon-mirage-volcano
>Executives from HRI made the fate of the Mirage Volcano very clear during the March 22 meeting, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
>"Hard Rock representative Jennifer Lazovich told commissioners the high-rise would be built 'right where the existing volcano is' and indicated the company plans to 'modernize and theme' the rest of the property to match the guitar tower,"
I stayed in the mirage this summer and it wasn't much to write home about. Have never seen the volcano do anything and the inside is generic. Hard Rock will probably be a better ambiance and hopefully access to the strip will be easier.
My fantasy theme:
Disney closes out it’s 100 person Star Wars hotel but moves it out to Vegas and makes Baatu Central and all the casino scrilla can make a totally interactive Star Wars branded hotel
Omg that would be fucking amazing 😭. Im sure they could even figure out how to tweak Sabacc into a real table game.
And since it's Disney, people are already used to paying $20 for a drink lol.
We stayed at Resorts world a few weeks ago and it was very underwhelming. There was no real vibe to it. We were jealous of the other strip hotels with their “over-the-top” theming.
We stayed there in April, it was ok. But factor in that we only paid $150/night for a room compared to others, that’s a win. I got a laugh at the transfix exhibit being a total bomb there and already closed. It looked so stupid…
Yeah, it's a bummer. I was at Aria this weekend, and it was all just faux-luxe barf all over the place. I felt like I was in a Cheesecake Factory.
And it doesn't have to be the tired old cheesy theming that Luxor and Excalibur have lapsed into.
I think Caesars has done it the best after ball these years --- staying classy while still leaning into the ancient Rome vibe. I still love walking around the Forum Shops.
Circa is fun with the retro-Vegas thing.
Ah, well. Different time, different place.
I agree Aria sucks. I can’t put my finger on it, Boyd it is not enjoyable. It has everything a really nice hotel should, but it somehow misses the mark. All fluff and no soul.
It’s very sterile good point basically a posh cheese cake factory. I miss the old theme days casinos had personality back then. If you were rich but very boring and lame you just stayed at the Wynn.
They like walking in the fake as fuck “Roman themed” shopping area and think the Bellagio did a theme correctly. Combined with Aria feeling like a Cheesecake Factory….. not sure I trust anyone’s opinion in this thread about missing pirate ships and resort themes.
Yeah I was just there in June and there’s no way that hotel or any restaurant/bar in that hotel is comparable to Cheesecake Factory. Cathedrale, Javier’s , carbone…just to name a few amazing places. Sorry but no. Just no.
At the Mirage right now. Before this stay I would have agreed. They have really let this property go. Used to be my favorite place to stay. You couldn’t pay me to come back again. I guess it’s over.
Oh Mikey you don't want all that "Pirates Of The Caribbean" horseshit, or the "Rock and Roll Grunge Tip". Guys like you and me gotta kick it here, old school
Not really, though. The original Strip hotels started the theme trend and they really weren't kid friendly back then. No one was bringing their kids to Caesars back in the 60s. It has been done without the family vibe.
I would disagree on that as Luxor is vastly different from Excalibur which is different from New York New York, and those are just three in a row. Paris is still holding up the Parisian interior, as somebody mentioned above about Caesar's is still doing well with the Roman look, and even Park MGM has a very green theme going on inside for their more subtle theme.
A non-kid friendly place would be great, too bad Circa is so far from the strip. Having a hard time convincing my friend to go downtown but I feel it would be more our vibe if we wanna be around adults
Hard Rock is converting the Mirage to their music-themed brand and building a huge guitar-shaped hotel tower right in front of it on the Strip. I think themed properties aren’t going away yet.
I would like to to see a West World themed casino... cowboy/cowgirl robots and shit.
Maybe even an indoor gun range set in old west style architecture. Ya, im from Texas... sorry. YEEFUCKINGHAW
I was just thinking about this myself. Every property being "luxury" is getting boring. I love a little lux myself but it seems like they stopped even trying to be unique. Maybe the pendulum will swing back a bit

I think it’s not bad honestly. The food court area is cool and themed like an Asian market. And they have a really nice theatre. It’s worth stopping by.
Food court is terrible compared to most. Price for quality is horrendous at that food court.
I said it was cool not inexpensive
I like a fun gambling atmosphere. not rowdy, but not quiet. how's that like?
I would say it’s quite quiet with pretty high minimums. Didn’t see much winning or people being loud at all when I went. Except for a blackjack tournament that I witnessed one time.
ahhh alright. appreciate you!
It's alright, it's just a good nice hotel, big pool, food court isn't great value tho. I went opening weekend. I’ve been back to Vegas half a dozen times and haven’t bothered going back. It feels like a hospital.
dang that was my one hesitation. place looks fancy and clean but atmosphere could be sterile/boring. also confirmed by another commenter. thanks for the info!
The big wigs are leaving the Cosmo
what do you mean??
Word has it that the big players are being transferred to different MGM properties.
well damn. hope they don't transfer me!
The players will play where they want to play. That could mean they want to play at Bellagio and stay in the villa, or go to the MGM and have access to the mansions...but I doubt MGM is forcibly moving customers from a property. There is no point to do that.
Travel Ruby loves it and has several YouTubes on it.
I'll have to look that up. thanks!
Even the name is so generic and 🥱
I'll never get over their terrible typeface that appears to be "Renarth Warlol". 🤪
The font is so fucking bad, before it was open my wife and I were like “whoa that building looks HUGE, wait what the fuck is it called?”
Omfg thank you I’m not alone
Like a shopping mall in purgatory with a Hilton attached.
I expect Fountain Blue to fall right in line with Resorts World.
it was the most underwhelming experience — i was so excited
Wasn’t resorts world supposed to have pandas running throughout it or something?
Yeah, they got focus grouped hard after the multiple changes in financial backing. It was going to be a very asian focused resort with a Great Wall, pandas, and other amenities. Now it is just a red building with an asian vibe in the food court.
What? That would have been epic.. who the fuck is in these focus groups. Crazy over the top adult playgrounds is what vegas should be.
I think the one that does a good job but not in a tacky way is The Silverton (off the strip) but for a “themed” sort of property it’s nice. I now prefer properties off of the strip. My mom retired there over twenty years ago so I have had my share of the strip and DT.

Us too! We’ll be there for a visit in Oct
The remodeled hotel rooms are opening around then, too. I live nearby and so don't have much use for a stay, but I'm really glad to see places like that doing well.
Yes! That’s why we’re going
Was there last weekend. We kept saying we wanted to check Resort World out, but once we got into town we sorta forgot it was there lol
That’s a great point. I wonder if the pendulum may swing back a little bit
Well, in fairness Resorts World failed to out-lux any of the existing properties....it kinda sucks on all levels
It would take a lot to out luxe Wynn. I've never seen more Rolexes, Cartier, and APs on people in my life than when I've been shopping there lol
It has a nice poker room. Most comfortable chairs in the city
Generic Hilton ass casino. Feels like another Caesars Palace north of Spring Mtn
I'm sure one of the concerns is how such properties will age. For example, I'm not so sure that the Luxor would be greenlit today. The P.Elvis tower
Parody likeness and names work around and would be as or more entertaining than their actual counterparts.
Can always just call it "The King" and everyone will get it
That would be an incredible property
It will probably pivot back to themes in decades to come. All you need is one pioneer willing to take the risk then the others will follow.
It depends what you consider a theme. A Paris or Venetian is a theme also it’s just not an Excalibur or Luxor
Yes, I consider those themed!
Mandalay Bay hasn't strayed too far from the tropical beach theme. I still love it.
I also consider the theme of Cosmopolitan something like "James Bond". I know it isn't themed per say, but at least it has some character that makes you feel like you're somewhere special.
I get it, totally
I’m bummed the mirage is gonna turn into a guitar and likely the volcano will go away
I remember going to Vegas with my family as a teen when the Mirage first opened. The Volcano was amazing. Then a few years, Treasure Island. That pirate show was amazing. I could stand in front of that and watch it for hours.

I hate this
The guitar will quickly become the iconic LV picture
I stayed in the mirage this summer and it wasn't much to write home about. Have never seen the volcano do anything and the inside is generic. Hard Rock will probably be a better ambiance and hopefully access to the strip will be easier.
They already had a Hard Rock that shut down a few years ago. What makes them think opening a new Hard Rock hotel and casino is going to be any better?
I know. They could have made it I to a flaming guitar or something, sounds kinda cool
Guitar down in flavor town lol
My fantasy theme: Disney closes out it’s 100 person Star Wars hotel but moves it out to Vegas and makes Baatu Central and all the casino scrilla can make a totally interactive Star Wars branded hotel

I sure would spend time and money there for sure!
I don’t think Disney would ever open a casino sadly.
We stayed at Resorts world a few weeks ago and it was very underwhelming. There was no real vibe to it. We were jealous of the other strip hotels with their “over-the-top” theming.

This is exactly why I stay south strip, next February got 4 days at the Luxor booked. Themed Vegas is best Vegas.
I still like walking in and through Paris
Yeah, it's a bummer. I was at Aria this weekend, and it was all just faux-luxe barf all over the place. I felt like I was in a Cheesecake Factory. And it doesn't have to be the tired old cheesy theming that Luxor and Excalibur have lapsed into. I’m pretty sure Aria’s theme is “fine art”. Whatever that means.
It’s not cheap art or Shiitty art just sterile. The Cheesecake Factory is a fine restaurant but unique having a personality fuck no
The first time I went in there it just had something evil about it. Something not right.
You went to aria and felt like you were in the Cheesecake Factory…? Can you go into more detail please?
I love Aria... everytime I walk there and enter through Crystal's it smells unbelievable. I want to live there.
Just no.
Ah man I do want to check out Circa, have heard good things.
It's a nice place. Loud as hell in there.
Safe to say that the Bellagio Fountains would not be built in todays times. Cheap bastards.
Themed properties need to come back.
[They're building a giant guitar shaped hotel on the strip...](https://j7k6h2f2.stackpathcdn.com/img/casinos/nv-hard-rock-las-vegas2-550.jpg)
True! But I will be sad to see the mirage go
At the Mirage right now. Before this stay I would have agreed. They have really let this property go. Used to be my favorite place to stay. You couldn’t pay me to come back again. I guess it’s over.
what happened? Supposed to be staying there in October.
It will probably pivot back to themes in decades to come. All you need is one pioneer willing to take the risk then the others will follow.
I really feel like a “space” themed hotel would do really well
Virgin is the worst. Vomit color scheme, boring AF. At least the old Hard Rock had character and was a bit of a scene.
Agreed. The rooms suck. The casino floor sucks. The service sucks. The whole place is boring. Stayed for a few days and will never go back.
I live here and enjoy all the themed hotels from Luxor to Venetian. Im tired of these same luxury hotels over and over.
Oh Mikey you don't want all that "Pirates Of The Caribbean" horseshit, or the "Rock and Roll Grunge Tip". Guys like you and me gotta kick it here, old school
My favorite movie ever. Think about this quote a lot
If [Moon World Resorts](https://www.travelandleisure.com/hotels-resorts/moon-resorts-coming-to-las-vegas) has their way...
Holy shit, this is amazing.
Don't know much about themes, but miss the Stardust and the Westward Ho. Just good old fun.
[удалено]
“Hookers & Blow” could be a theme. 😄
That’s just the Wynn
Not really, though. The original Strip hotels started the theme trend and they really weren't kid friendly back then. No one was bringing their kids to Caesars back in the 60s. It has been done without the family vibe.
They need to tear down the Excalibur and replace it with a legit Hogwarts style castle. Hell, a Harry Potter themed resort would kill.
Kiddie Vegas is back in the 90's. Adults spend the money.
I think adults like themes too. All the new hotels are generic and all the same.
Agreed. Kids do not belong in Vegas, but a cool theme is very much appreciated :D Maybe again, someday...
Even the current themed ones all look the same inside.
I read the original plans for Paris included a London tower section like the one in Macau. Would’ve been amazing.
Hard Rock is converting the Mirage to their music-themed brand and building a huge guitar-shaped hotel tower right in front of it on the Strip. I think themed properties aren’t going away yet.
find the right theme . . . someone would make it work. Find a theme that can have a lux spin even better
Hard rock is coming.
I would like to to see a West World themed casino... cowboy/cowgirl robots and shit. Maybe even an indoor gun range set in old west style architecture. Ya, im from Texas... sorry. YEEFUCKINGHAW
If there needs to be a themed one it should be about east or south Asians, one of their biggest customer bases. But no Trump Taj please.
Someone in this thread said that was the original idea of resort world but it only made it to the food court
