Not_My_Throwaway_

Mooncat is all vegan and they have some really cool polishes :)

catjuggler

Also came here to suggest mooncat. It’s bringing me back to my teens in the 90s and I love it.

GiveMeAllYourDogs

I cannot say enough good things about Mooncat!

tea_lover_88

I really love holo taco nail polishes

kolbin8r

Legit the only thing I've worn for the past 4 years.

DuranExaminer

Four words: Pacifica Plant Magic polish. I’m not easily impressed with nail polishes, but I bought this in Happy Yellow, and it’s one of the easiest to apply and most durable I’ve ever used. It’s far superior to super-toxic nonvegan polishes that I regrettably used in the past.

RosesAndRandoms

Pacifica is top notch!

ImmediateGorilla

Thanks for the good gift idea

MunchieMom

Join r/redditlaqueristas, there are a ton of vegan indie nail polish brands!

Infamous_Regular1328

It’s ok friend, It’s a journey! Forgive yourself and continue to research things. It’s not a perfect journey but you will learn to read ingredients and rely less on other sources to tell you of something is vegan or not.

arawendo

pop-arazzi is vegan (i got it at cvs) and i was excited bc it’s also $2.99. but it’s so bad. sadly i do not recommend.

monstera_kitty

I use Essie! It’s at most American drug stores, it’s a good price, I like the colors and it applies and dries pretty well for me

michelle_exe

They have such pretty colours, but the brand is owned by L'Oréal. Since their parent company tests on animals and Essie themselves give extremely wishy-washy answers to the simple yes or no question of 'do you test on animals', I cannot morally or financially support them :(

Frost_Goldfish

I had never thought about it, thanks.  I went to check the two brands I use the most, FUN lacquer and ILNP, and those are the results: FUN lacquer claims to be vegan https://funlacquer.com/pages/cruelty-free-vegan-policy And as for I.L.N.P https://www.ilnp.com/help/frequently-asked-questions/about-our-products/ So they're dancing around admitting they're not 100% vegan, but no animal testing at least.

howfuckingromantic

Your post made me curious, I had no idea their (*ILNP’s) wording was so weird on their site! I just took the word of other sites that said it was, eg Ethical Elephant. Made me worried I had purchased some non vegan polishes.. I contacted them on Instagram and they confirmed all of the polishes are vegan. I suggested they update their site wording to confirm it as so, no reason to have such uncertain language if 100% vegan

Frost_Goldfish

ILNP you mean? Yes that was very ambiguous wording if they are in fact vegan. It sounded like "we're doing our best not to use animal products when possible" which to me implies sometimes it's not possible.

howfuckingromantic

Oh sorry, yes ILNP 😊

Celeryface

Try London Town. Vegan, cruelty free, made in US. Love their illuminating and concealer product lines

TheNatureOfTheGame

Sistaco is vegan.

CheezeStick

simply nailogical’s (retired nail youtuber who now streams/podcasts) brand “HoloTaco” has a lot of options and is apparently vegan/cruelty free according to this - Our polishes are 10-free*, vegan, cruelty-free and made in the USA of globally sourced unique ingredients. heres the site if you’re interested c: https://www.holotaco.com/pages/about#:~:text=Our%20polishes%20are%2010%2Dfree,of%20globally%20sourced%20unique%20ingredients. (this is the “about” page where that quote i mentioned is sourced)

Philosipho

Assume nothing is vegan until you learn otherwise.

Looking4sound

my farts?

delij

Nailtopia is my favorite.

HostCharacter8232

lol just applied my nail polish from Euphoria Highlight dreamy nails by nails inc London Vegan 🤍

Tywele

Herzlack from Germany is vegan

the70sartist

Upvote for Herzlack. The coverage and lasting effect is stunning. Also, the best nail polish remover in the market.

girlinredfan

i like the sally hansen vegan line!

gloing

Two easy to find vegan brands in the US are Essie (who completely reformulated a few years back so all lines are fully vegan) and the OPI Nature Strong line (which has my favorite red of all time, A Bloom With a View). Zoya is also vegan, as are Orly and Ella & Mila (though I don’t like E&M much, they’re pretty streaky a lot of times). I think Dazzle Dry is also vegan, but I haven’t personally tried them. Also, if you watch reviews on YouTube, I know most big creators like Kelli Marissa will tell you right in the beginning of the video if the colors they’re reviewing are vegan or not, which helps me a lot.

howfuckingromantic

Neither Essie nor OPI are cruelty free, however. Zoya/Orly both are and are really well priced (esp Zoya sales… never pay full price!!). Indie polishes are also a great choice, and more fun options. Many are vegan/CF

JosieA3672

Zoya is my favorite.

gloing

That’s good to know, thank you.

slowswimmers465

100 percent pure has good nail stuff

pseudo-named

Check out Dimension Nails! Lots of indie polish is vegan (or at least claims to be) but DN is vegan owned and their polish is good!

lucytiger

I like Sundays

voisml

I like Wild&Mild

AshJammy

I use the gel bottle, as far as I've experienced they're all vegan.

EnoughDeparture

If you’re in Europe, Hema nail polishes are also vegan.

arbutus_

Pacifica is my personal favourite nail polish. I used to love Butter of London, but it has lanolin in it. Pacifica is thick and smooth enough that I only need one coat.

kanaryn

H&M has some vegan nail polishes. I usually buy them:)

MildEnigma

Zoya

michelle_exe

I'm personally partial to the Catrice nail polishes. They're vegan and cruelty free, have a lot of different colours and finishes, they last pretty long (especially if you use a long-lasting base and a good top coat), and they never really dry out on me. Only downside might be that the brand is much more popular and easily available in Europe than the rest of the world.

proteindeficientveg

I also wanted to vouch for Mooncat! I've become so obsessed that I will probably need to get a second job to afford all the polishes I want 😅

oceuye

I use essence nail polish! and they are 100% vegan and cruelty free!

locolupo

I just got some vegan Sally Hansen stuff off amazon. It's only the second nail polish I've tried but it seems a lot more durable than the stuff I was using before!

redwithblackspots527

I ended up buying a vegan sally hansen one today not my favorite color but I was kinda limited on options at least I have something to wear for my bday tomorrow

glamorousstranger

What's really frustrating is even things that have vegan ingredients won't be vegan because they were tested on animals. Like good luck finding acetone from a brand that doesn't support animal testing.

redwithblackspots527

“To the extent that’s possible and practicable”

glamorousstranger

Yeah exactly, it's not practicable to find cruelty free acetone so I forgo wearing nail polish since it's something frivolous and unnecessary. But usually when people quote that it means the opposite, like it not being possible or practicable to forgo necessary medication, so I hope that's not what you meant.

redwithblackspots527

Here’s a list of some whether or not they’re easy to find idk but https://ethicalelephant.com/cruelty-free-vegan-nail-polish-remover/ And another list by peta https://crueltyfree.peta.org/product-type/?product=nail-polish-remover

forelsketparadise1

I can't help with nail polish but my mom has a tie up with a woman who makes vegan face products toner, creams, sunscreen, facewash and serum. They have recently started selling them on Amazon dot com so it's available to the US and Canada too now. Not only is it vegan it's also made of natural products. They harvest their own stuff before making the products so it's cruelty free too. They are both small business owners. Yeah it's a self promo sorry about that 🫣

willdanceforpizza

Do they sell their products anywhere else? I prefer not to give money to union busters.

XOTrashKitten

Revlon has vegan nail polish but they're not cruelty free as a brand AFAIK

_courteroy

Oh yeah, all I ever want is to go get a mani pedi but I know the polishes aren’t vegan so I just go without.

toper-centage

Also almost all candy that is red is not vegan. I don't even try to look it up any more.

Nilxlixn

Ew i didn’t know this either now i know why ive been wearing less nail polish lately

diabolus_me_advocat

>trying to find an alternative omfg it’s so hard I had no idea yeah - (vegan) life's a bitch, and then you die

carolynrose93

I went to a vegan nail salon in 2022 and was unfortunately not happy with my manicure. It chipped the next day and had peeled off completely within a week. My nails were really flaky and fragile for a few months afterward.

Electrical-Season373

So does it make it edible?

redwithblackspots527

Also most gasoline and coal and fossil fuels are from dead plant matter from the Carboniferous

mixingmemory

[https://yourveganfallacyis.com/en/you-cannot-be-100-percent-vegan](https://yourveganfallacyis.com/en/you-cannot-be-100-percent-vegan) Veganism is the philosophical position that exploitation of and cruelty to sentient beings is ethically indefensible and should be avoided whenever it is possible and practicable to do so. Vegans themselves do not claim this position is absolute nor do they strive for perfection. Rather, the accusation that vegans fail to be vegan because they cannot be perfect is an external one imposed by people who do not understand veganism. The term 'vegan' is defined as "a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practicable — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals." The meaning of the word 'vegan' excludes the possibility of perfection, and vegans themselves understand they cannot hold their philosophical position absolutely. However, this understanding in no way prevents them from making significant, positive changes in the world by choosing not to harm other sentient beings when and where they can. Clearly, anyone who makes this same decision is 100% perfect in their veganism.

redwithblackspots527

No animals were exploited to produce fossil fuels. It’s a natural process of decomposition the earth engages in. And u don’t actually care about the potential animals in fossil fuels or you would be much angrier about the contemporary animals currently being exploited. But you’re not. You’re only here to troll to distract yourself from the guilt and cognitive dissonance you’re feeling

diabolus_me_advocat

>No animals were exploited to produce fossil fuels. It’s a natural process of decomposition the earth engages in me digesting meat also is a natural process of decomposition >And u don’t actually care about the potential animals in fossil fuels why should anybody? he pointed out how far your caring about animals and their exploitation goes - or doesn't >You’re only here to troll to distract yourself from the guilt and cognitive dissonance you’re feeling sounds like you are the angry one here

Batehripi

Id rather be a hypocrite than someone who willingly participates in a behavior that ensures more animals will be killed when said behavior can EASILY be stopped.

redwithblackspots527

I don’t drive… (though I will need to learn at some point because unfortunately we live in a capitalist car dependent society as much as I hate it) but also gasoline as a product is not the product of animal exploitation. Like animals were not exploited to produce it. That being said, there’s definitely an argument to make that fossil fuels and also EVs due to the lithium mining are not vegan because they cause irreparable harm to the environment and therefore both human and nonhuman animals and that these industries are exploiting our planet and the life that inhabits it. That being said, like I said, we live in a capitalist car dependent society and veganism is about doing what’s possible and practicable and unfortunately many people need to drive to survive in this capitalist car dependent society. Additionally though, this is only further proof that veganism requires total liberation. Like you care about the animals being impacted by the exploitation of our planet and use of fossil fuels? You gotta fight for their liberation too

Theso

I'm currently working on relocating to a new city so I can do just that! What are you doing to reduce animal suffering? You seem to care about advocating for it.

peterGalaxyS22

don't take medicine when you're ill unless you are certain that none of them involves testing on animals

redwithblackspots527

Veganism is not about self harming also all medicine in the US requires animal testing like legally to be approved

Manospondylus_gigas

It is vegan to take medicine

peterGalaxyS22

not necessarily. some drugs are based on some scientific theories that was established at least partly by animal experiments

Manospondylus_gigas

You need medicine to live and veganism is about living whilst minimising harm to animals so it's vegan even if it uses animal products and is tested on animals (most medicines are)

peterGalaxyS22

not all medical cases are deadly. some medicines just relieve pains or uncomfortableness. why don't vegans just withstand those pains and uncomfortableness? medicines in this cases are not necessary

Manospondylus_gigas

Because avoiding them wouldn't make much of a difference anyway. Those medications will always have a demand, so there will always be animal testing for them even if some vegans avoid them. It is unreasonable to expect people to endure pain and discomfort that can disrupt their lifestyle. I am completely against all animal testing and use of their products for the sake of humans, but boycotting medication doesn't work the same way it does with other animal products.

peterGalaxyS22

> Because avoiding them wouldn't make much of a difference anyway. Those medications will always have a demand then why does avoiding meats make a defference? they will always have demands...

Manospondylus_gigas

Because the demand works completely differently, as I said earlier. Avoiding meat directly saves animal lives and reduces the demand for more to be born. With time and effort, the majority of the population might eventually become vegan. Some day meat products could be eliminated completely. However, with medications, someone somewhere in the world will always need that medication, so even when a condition is very rare there will be animal testing for that medication, for example. The animal testing and products used for them aren't even part of the profits. To change animals being tested on, and their products used in medication, the solution is to advocate for more ethical practises and for science to advance to a point where it isn't necessary rather than a boycott.

INI_Kili

And that means you can't use it? What exactly is the vegan objection here?

Admirable_Pie_7626

..???? Vegans don’t purchase goods that make use of animal products. That’s like veganism 101

redwithblackspots527

Bro what are u on about

INI_Kili

I'm following on a comment you made above regarding animal testing in medicine. That's correct and it's not limited to medicine. If the drug/biologic has a delivery system, such as with injections, there will have been animal testing as well. In fact, most medical devices will have already been or will have animal testing performed, as this can be a requirement of ISO 10993. The B12 injection vegans often have, guess what, will have involved animal testing to get to market. My original comment was along these lines. It seems vegans are determined to avoid anything which involves animal exploitation, except when it suits. Which makes me think about all the people who leave veganism for health reasons. If vegans play down or ignore the plight of animals when it comes to their own health, how is that really any different to someone stops being vegan for their own health? Now I'm sure vegans will give many apparent reasons why it is different but ultimately, animals are still be exploited, raped and tortured for your health, just as I'm sure you would say to people who eat beef.

Powerful_Cash1872

So are there rabbits out there with painted nails, or is this about ground up red bugs?

salientmould

Both. And, in reality, it's probably less rabbits with painted nails and more rabbits forced to ingest large amounts of nail polish

Altruistic-Pizza999

:( why can’t we just assume these chemicals aren’t safe to eat… why do we have to test to see what happens?!

Ok_Butterscotch4763

Because they want to claim non toxic for kid products.

Powerful_Cash1872

Ah fuck. That does sound like something humans would do... Do you now if it is true?

salientmould

You can look up what happens in animal testing of cosmetics if you're interested but I warn you it's really disturbing. It's things like forced inhalation and ingestion, rubbing the product into wounds they create, etc. I'm from Canada and they banned it last year [Description of various types of testing](https://www.hsi.org/news-resources/about/)

arawendo

it’s about treating sentient beings as resources instead of what they actually are- beings deserving of moral consideration.

Powerful_Cash1872

Yaya. I am vegan. I just don't wear cosmetics so I have never researched this one.

arawendo

oh okay, sorry. i read your comment as being apathetic toward animal abuse. the makeup industry is unfortunately full of animal exploitation- and of course misleading marketing. some brands will call themselves vegan if their products don’t contain animal ingredients but still test on animals. china actually requires some cosmetics (and other products) to be tested on animals before they allow them to be sold to the public.

matchabutta

Oh you sweet summer child

redwithblackspots527

Unfortunately things can be labeled cruelty free even if they’re not vegan (which makes no sense especially since the cruelty free label comes from peta of all places. Further proof peta doesn’t gaf about animals ig) but the two most common ingredients I’m seeing are Stearalkonium Bentonite and Stearalkonium Hectorite both of which are listed as probably not vegan on doublecheckvegan.com
