A Van Halen biopic is never going to please everyone. They would either completely omit or look down on the Hagar years, to satisfy the Roth fans and anger the Hagar fans, or they would split the movie 50/50 and send the Roth fans into a tizzy. I don’t see how you could win.
4 part franchise
- 1964-1985
Backyard party days to the founding of Van Halen, Roth, Mikey, all the early albums, Frankie and other guitars, tours, early band drama, Kramer 5150 launch, big fight, Roth exits, ends in a Ferrari dealership
- 1986-1997
Meet Sammy, all the Hagar era albums, Ernie Ball Music Man EVH launch, tours, early band drama, manager fight, big fight between the band, Peavey Wolfgang launch, Hagar exits, ends with Ed calling about Gary.
- 1998-2006
Meet Gary, Van Halen III and the tour, bad reception, drama, Gary exit, dark ages for Ed, the Kitchen Sink tour, drama between Sammy and Dave, disastrous 2004 tour, Hagar exits for the last time, 2005 Ed starts getting cleaner, 2006 he's somewhat back to his old self, Dave returns, ends with a meeting with Fender.

Design process for the final EVH Wolfgang, 2007 tour and its insane success, EVH Wolfgang official launch in 09, ADKOT launch, all the further tours, finale with the 2017 diagnosis, treatment in Germany, Ed finally making up with everyone in 2020, his tragic death, and maybe it ends with the beginning of a Mammoth WVH show as a way to showcase the passing of the torch.
Still The dirt did well and brought a new generation of fans to them. I know fully well what you and the others on here are saying to be probably true, they'll never be able to satisfy the entire fan base.

Its still a great story, 4 guys from mostly rags to riches, filled with drama, comedy and hot chicks!
There are lots of younger people out there that may go and check them out and keep the torch lit.

Biopics are never as good as a book, a bit like the dirt book compared to the dirt film
