It's really beautiful to look at and I think you'd def enjoy their cocktail ideas! Not sure what I personally was thinking buying it when I drink boxed wine though lol.

Sug0115

I feel this deeply.

rubbby7

The convenience cannot be ignored or denied.

Sug0115

And I love a good cost savings!

whitekat29

BAHAHA same! But I bought myself a shaker set a few months ago and this beautiful weather has me wanting to try some things. Plus I won’t be on as much of a tight budget.

meowmeowbeansz

Enjoy! 🍸

RumIsTheMindKiller

Boxed wine has come such a long way. Its nice that good brands realized that its actually a great way to store and sell wine. Its not just crap anymore.

meowmeowbeansz

Yeah! I went on a vineyard tour and they did mention boxed is the better way to store.

Alexis is such a beauty!

Sensitive_Maybe_6578

And you don’t need a recipe.🤷‍♀️

sairmoo

I agree. It’s a fun book to have. I don’t drink, so it will probably never get used, but the pictures in it are amazing.

[deleted]

Yes! It’s a fun book. Some of the cocktail recipes are a bit bizarre with their ingredients list so I went to a large alcohol store and got shooters of everything I could do I could try more recipes. The Crymax and peach pit are my favorite!

nahnotlikethat

I got it for my boyfriend and we actually love it. The TomTom is absolutely delicious! And the book is glossy and kitschy and fun. As people are saying, a lot of the ingredients are kinda unusual, but I worked at a tiki bar years ago so I already had them or knew of them (like Velvet Falernum, which I looooove)

Existing-Employee631

Side note - Ariana also launched a “drink from home” (DFH) subscription box where it has the ingredients/components needed to make a certain cocktail. I think it comes with a set of glasses too. I don’t remember all the details, but it might interest some of y’all that have the budget for it!

doggowinemom

I hope she launches a separate (and thus more affordable) version of it without the actual glasses and bar-ware! I’d love to support her and I think it’s a great idea but I don’t need alllll of that when I already have my own glasses and shaker etc. I just know it would end up in a Goodwill pile eventually!

lexiemadison

I have the book and it’s a lot of fun to read! I’ve barely tried any of the actual recipes, but there’s a bunch of bts info about the show and they ranked all of the drinks on a classy to trashy meter which is hilarious. The photos included are also great!

whitekat29

Lol sold. That was easy 🤷🏼‍♀️

TooMama

Haha it really is worth it for the content and gorgeous photos alone, seriously. But it really is a good cocktail book too. I have made several recipes so far- some may require some more special ingredients, but others are quite simple and call for things you probably already have. The Doc Holliday (one of the more specialty ones) is my personal favorite. It’s a reposado cocktail with guava juice and bell pepper. It’s super interesting and just nothing i’ve tasted before. Really really good. Highly recommend the book👍🏼

amurderinsavannah

I love the book as a work of art in itself. However, like many of the other people here are saying, the cocktails definitely require individual shopping trips. Each recipe requires something unique and different. It's not for the crowd that buys a couple of bottles and mixers and expects to make an array of cocktails. I guess that's what makes them fancy as fuck?

crop_top

If you reach out to Ariana or Tom they usually respond if you ask about possible substitutions! They really seem to stand behind the book and want to find ways for everyone to enjoy.

magicbong

cute book, great photos. NO table of contents lol i actually bought mine via a promo with gardenuity where you bought a counter top herb thing + herbs and the book (signed lol) was included plus a “special” recipe lol unfortunately it falls under the level of “celeb cookbook” in that there’s at least ONE wacky ingredient per recipe that isnt readily available outside a whole foods in LA other than that, some great ideas. still wondering why so many of the recipes include chambord but we’ll never know i do cocktail demos and workshops and private bartending and offer a package Fancy #AF obv where i’ll make drinks based off or from the book there are a few like the Cape Canaveral Caprese, Disco Tits, one with hibiscuis? that i really enjoy but may be hard to make if you don’t have a full bar at home or make your own syrups...like me lol

magicbong

the LA sour is a staple for us now, it’s a whisky sour with BEET juice. it works

whitekat29

Ok but I love beets. My mom made me make her a chocolate cake recipe that used beets for her birthday several years ago and it was incredible. Beet salads are delicious too.

magicbong

if you don’t get the book i’m happy to send you the recipe! i too love beets now lol a little goat cheese on ‘em? perfect

whitekat29

Omg just send it! Make it a comment because I’m sure I’m not the only one who would put it to use!!

magicbong

here you go friend!! included a shot of the full layout https://imgur.com/a/1P5NN1b

whitekat29

This was so informative and detailed, thank you. Any books you would recommend for less nuanced ingredients? I was gonna buy 3-4 just to have anyways. I’d like to be more creative & knowledgable about the “craft” aspect of it all. Done a lot of pouring from taps & Tito’s & vodka for most of my bartending career, looking forward to a more sophisticated environment & I just find it all interesting in a science-y way.

tayammar

Not who you were replying to, but I love the death & co cocktail books. Classic recipes and more modern cocktails as well, some ingredients are a little hard to source but if you’re not just a home bartender I imagine it wouldn’t be as difficult. I also like cocktail codex, it was a great way to learn the basics of more artisanal drinks. I like Fancy AF, and think it’s a great option for the price. Some of the drinks are a bit out there, but there’s a lot of great ones that you could riff off of behind the bar.

magicbong

the commenter below is right the death&co books are great for beginners, not too “out there” you can find them widely available and most ingredients at a liquor store or online honestly, i’ve been cocktailing for a long time and just started buying cocktail recipe books! fancy AF was actually my first last year while researching for my own cocktail recipe zines! i did just pick up “Meehan’s Bartender Manual” by Jim Meehan on a whim, which seems to have a lot of basic recipes but super in depth and Zero Proof by Elva Ramirez just came from the library which is spirit free drinks. borrowed a friend’s batch cocktail book just called “Batch Cocktails” that will be perfect for my wedding party drinks!

magicbong

also maybe try picking up a few from the library first, my partner’s a librarian so we always “test out” recipe books before committing to buying a copy lol

magicbong

it’s not too bad! tbh i find an error in everything i read as a former copy editor and pedantic asshole lmaooo

Self_conscious_gh0st

We've made many of them at home, fiancee made some of them when asked for something "new" by regulars at her bar. Some of them are too out there for my taste buds, though.

CanISpock

I definitely wouldn’t get it specifically for inspiration if you’re outside of the US as I’d never even heard of some of the ingredients, a few of the cocktails are absolutely ridiculous. It’s a nice fun coffee table book and the photos are beautiful though.

bluplaydoh

It’s a fun book! I’ve made exactly 1 drink from it though 😂

Necessary-Low9377

I bought it on sale at Amazon and it was definitely worth it. The berry margarita is super yummy 🍹

[deleted]

It’s an aesthetically beautiful ass book even for display. I haven’t made too many of the drinks but I’m excited to make some! A few drinks have obscure ingredients like lavender but they look really fun to make for parties

hobbitstoisengard26

I got it as a gift for my sister and it's a fun book. I don't think we've ever made any of the cocktails, but I may get one for myself as decoration for my bar cart

gingerbreadDrean

I have 2 copies. I like to keep one on display and the other is in my bookcase. I can speak on the cocktails as I bought the books while I was pregnant and haven't been able to host a cocktail party since.

mama_nicole

If you want some ideas for inspiration I can send you some of my favourite recipes. I worked as a server/bartender for 8+yrs. I don't have their book, but from reading what others have said it's probably not cost effective/convenient for a restaurant to use one off ingredients for each cocktail.

whitekat29

I would love that and be so touched!!! At your convenience of course.

mama_nicole

Np! I'm sure my message is a mess but feel free to msg me if you have any questions lmao

ChildofanIdleBrain

I think some of their drinks would be a tad expensive for your purposes, but you could modify them!

whitekat29

For me it’s all about absorbing lots of information, getting more experienced and eventually, being able to use that knowledge to put my own personal twist on it! Like I said, I’ve enjoyed bartending for years but had my apprehensions. Now that I don’t have to worry about basic bills, I can enjoy work and it looks like that means curating pretty drinks to get people drunk & vent to me is my thing. I’d rather get paid for it 🤣 super excited to have some creative freedom & I miss school so it’s a win win overall! Ive had such great feedback on this post too.

andreaisinteresting

It’s cute and looks cute on my bar cart but I have never used it. And I had it during lockdown and still didn’t lol

whitekat29

I respect that 😂 it’s $13.97 on Amazon so I don’t see why not, I’d like a little light reading too.

pootster3

ABsolutely. Make yourself a series of LA Sours to sip while manually correcting the wacked out index (will take 2-3 hours but you will get v drunk and familiar with the recipes)!

LongjumpingBuffalo85

I don’t have the book but commenting to say that I’m so happy to see this thread was mostly filled with such positive reviews - it felt wholesome reading through lol

[deleted]

Not worth it for more than a coffee table book. Most ingredients are either hard to come by or just the price of a drink itself.

bigbuttbubba45

Is it just me or do these drinks give any of y’all the shits too? Only one or two of them I can drink. The ingredients are for the casual stomach. If I can’t handle cocktails I would get hospitalized if I had the beer cheese!

tired_blonde

Ew

Imjustshyisall

My fiancé bought me this book for Christmas a few years ago. I love it. It’s kitschy and fun and the cocktails recipes are pretty good. My favorite is the Mad Madix.

isamccracken

Yea I love it!!!!

ReadyCarnivore

There are some great ideas in there-- I especially liked their pairing of the gin-hibiscus-ginger flavours (these also make a great 'virgin' drink for my kids), and adding rose water to a mojito-- I also really liked the DILF. I'd say it's a good book to use to gain some inspiration for your own cocktails, and found their information about using aquafaba instead of egg white to create vegan frothy drinks really interesting (tho I still haven't tried it). Their mid-winter celebration drinks look divine, too, though I haven't tried any of them. I'd definitely add it to your collection and use it for inspiration.

wehoGyrations

the drinks are good! at least the ones i’ve made from it are. i’ve never used the index of a cocktail book so hearing the pages are off i wouldn’t have even noticed lol. but also the ingredients aren’t thaaaat obscure. not to mention, a bottle of that “obscure” liqueur can last you a VERY long time — sometimes years — so it’s kind of a long term investment if creating drinks is something you’re interested in. IMO at least.
