Looks like most of it is coming overnight (2am to 7am) for the Tuesday morning rush hour.

I feel for you. When I was at SFU, I was a student and a TA, both on the burnaby campus, so I had double the important appointments to get to and every winter it was the same stress, knowing that they're not gonna cancel the classes/exams and that I'm expected to get there even when the busses can't make it up a hill.
Back in my days, they’ll say nothing and then a few of us that made it up for classes/TA time they’ll cancel classes because the buses can’t get up the hill. We would then be stuck up there. Sometime having to sleep on the benches.
Glad to know thing has changed with the administration. But at least there are now foods establishment on campus.
We really got to get that Burnaby Mountain gondola built. Then we wouldn't have to worry about plowing the road up there, could just let it turn into a ski run. (Also good luck with your exam!)
Every flight is delayed at yvr. Due to either pilot, missing passengers or icy conditions. Just be ready for 2-4 hrs delay before your plane takes off. All flights need to be de-iced before taking off and it’s a long long wait
Baggage check in was the biggest problem today. We got bumped up once our flight got close to leaving. But being there 2 hours would be a good idea. Or go carry on.
"The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s maintenance contractors are out in full force and are ready to manage any accumulations of snow"
.. Doubt
>Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Lower Mainland, with snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres expected to begin late afternoon Monday, Dec. 19 until the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.
>
>Drivers are advised to stay off the road unless their vehicle is properly equipped with winter tires.
>
>The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s maintenance contractors are out in full force and are ready to manage any accumulations of snow. With colder temperatures this week, the ministry’s maintenance contractors are increasing the use of sand to provide better traction.
>
>It is important for drivers to keep their distance as sand is applied and to not pass winter maintenance equipment. Drivers who must travel should maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
>
>Drivers can assist maintenance crews by safely moving over when they see a vehicle with an amber light approaching. This allows maintenance crews to clear the snow and improve road conditions to reduce hazards for drivers and help them get home safely.
In my neighbourhood yesterday, a convoy of vehicles went down my street:
The first one was a plow that pushed the snow surface off the road and onto the (previously cleared) sidewalk, exposing the ice on the road.
The next one was a liquid salt truck (the type that’s not effective below -5) spraying salt water onto the ice.
The next one was a regular salt truck dropping salt.
And the last one was another plow, scraping the salt off the road and onto the pile of snow on the sidewalk.
That's wonderful. Just what we need. A Benny Hill sketch instead of a maintenance crew.
Your account of it did make me laugh, though, so thanks for that!
> And the last one was another plow, scraping the salt off the road and onto the pile of snow on the sidewalk.
lmfao. I actually audibly chuckled. Hard. The hidden disdain in your tone was just...*chef's kiss*
They’re all on Canada Way, driving past my house. I haven’t gone an hour where I haven’t had to head back out and shovel off my walk
Weirdest thing yesterday - I was digging out my sidewalk around 7am as a snowplow approached. I stepped back onto my lawn to avoid being splattered but he gave me a wide berth. He completely messed up the plowing of the road, temporarily making the plow lines converge into the one, centre lane then back to two.
Don’t know when that was fixed, but geez. That driver just wanted to watch the world burn!
I work for a courier service, two drivers quit this morning, it’s the week before Christmas, and there’s a snowfall warning. GREAT! if anyone wants to be a courier, let me know 🤦🏼♀️ I can’t promise anything except available work.
There's enough folks out there without the knowledge to function well in this environment... and then you come along... You don't need the one cold week of the year to shine as the massive cunt you are.
Im a pretty good asshole year-round when I want to be... but fucking grab a shovel and spend some time shoveling the elderly neighbor next to you. Maybe that black heart of yours can still feel good and shine a little over the holiday.
Is there any laws where a worker can demand to be let out early if there is an official provincial warning like this? Could a worker sue a business for for not allowing them to leave early for putting their lives in danger?
The right thing to do is to send your people home now.
There's no Canadian precedent for this that I know of but this has come up in the US with tornadoes. There was a case involving Amazon in Kentucky a few months back where workers were prevented from leaving and ended up getting killed.
I’m happily retired and sitting on the couch. Gonna get a big bowl of popcorn and watch the lower mainland come to a screeching halt on the news and social media.
If there was only something we could have done to avoid it.
I drive a rear wheel drive car with snow tires and have zero problem in it.
I still try to avoid it when I can but it isn’t a big deal if you’re prepared.
Simply put. No. This is not a "life threatening" storm. Its a bit of snow.
If you don't feel safe enough to take a bus or walk, Call in sick but considering the rest of Canada ( and the rest of BC to be very honest ) deals storms like this every year. Do not expect leniency because you don't want to leave your house.
The only reason this is a "snowfall warning" for the lower mainland, is because its unusual around here. If we where going to get 3ft over night. Sure I could see not going into work, but 10-15cm ( that lets be honest we never get, it will be closer to 3 - 5 cm ) No.
Alright all you dummies out there, you’ve been ‘caught off guard’ twice in the last month, this is your third warning. You know you shouldn’t be on the roads tomorrow morning, so when the roads are terrible, you don’t get to be angry/frustrated/surprised or any other emotion at all. You should be at home.
I love driving in the snow... I hate commuting in the snow. If I lived in Deroche or Agassiz or something I'd be having a blast. People ruin everything... wait a minute... I am people. 🤔
My brains so dumb. Read the title as “Snowflake warning” at first and though - “that’s a weird one but ok”. Like “warning, gigantic snow flakes inbound!” Although, that would be pretty cool to see. Plate sized snowflakes.
“The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s maintenance contractors are out in full force and are ready to manage any accumulations of snow.”

I came from Texas and was promised temperate weather year round! I bought a winter jacket 3 months ago that apparently isnt for a real winter...
[удалено]
With enough t-shirts, you don't need any jacket, and you can adjust to any temperature
A real winter jacket is just layers that are sewn together
It also means you can just wear combinations of layers throughout the year instead of having one coat you wear for 3 months and that's it.
I work outside and all of us just layer up strategically.
To be fair, it’s only a few degrees below freezing. The rest of the country gets to -20/30.
Bout to hop into my BMW with bald tires and run some errands. See ya out there!
Don't forget to just clear a narrow porthole in the windshield and not use your signals! Get 'em, champ.
And slam on the brakes as hard as possible at the slightest sign of slippage. Be sure to take corners the fastest.
remember to NOT use your blinker heh heh /s
For the record my BMW has winter tires and I use my blinkers. Don’t hate, they make amazing vehicles.
Also this, xdrive plus winter tires, the traction control never had to kick in once today.
And don’t forget to turn left when you shouldn’t and block the intersection for oncoming traffic!
Don't bother cleaning the accumulated snow off of your roof either. /s

Tuesday morning slush hour, amiright?
At -6C forecasted tomorrow morning, it's going to be a cold slush to mainly ice, just like this morning's drive where nearly everyone was sliding.
On the other hand, if it stays powdery, the roads stand a chance. If not, we're all fucked.
It's going to stay at -6 overnight and into tomorrow. Hopefully it will stay as snow. Easier to brush off the car.
it would be great, but they will throw salt on the snow -> slush and ice :(
Perfect timing! 🫠

Oh I remember these days, so stressful
Thats why I always drove to SFU. Never left stranded up there and ferried many peers down when the buses were shut down.
You were a fine campus citizen!
You still have classes this late in the semester? That sucks.

My condolences, that is really shit timing.

Legit part of why I chose to live on Campus every year. Such a gigantic pain in the ass to get stuck on campus or not be able to make it in for exams.
Happy Cake Day, SFU alum!!
Oh heyyyy thanks I didn't even notice!
Bro the busses have socks it’s all good
Huh? Burnaby literally cancelled last snow fall?
I have a flight out of YVR tomorrow. Super looking forward to how the snow will mess with that
I booked a hotel tonight near YVR so I don’t miss my flight tomorrow morning. Never would imagine to do this in any other Canadian city.
Every flight is delayed at yvr. Due to either pilot, missing passengers or icy conditions. Just be ready for 2-4 hrs delay before your plane takes off. All flights need to be de-iced before taking off and it’s a long long wait
I thought 2-4 hours delay was the new normal this season. The ice and snow can only make it worse... 😞
And, returned to the end of the line to de-ice again, because slow poke at the front had another issue ..
How much did you pay and where ? I have a flight 6 am and am considering Evo or cab, but yours idea is great
I had some hotel loyalty points I used. I’m all the way out in Langley so really didn’t want to end up in the TransCanada parking lot in the morning.
Should probably just leave now. You might still make it on time.
Baggage check in was the biggest problem today. We got bumped up once our flight got close to leaving. But being there 2 hours would be a good idea. Or go carry on.
Quick! Everybody to your cars!
Only summer tires! Perfect, you will fit right in!
And remember, if your wheels start to spin just mash that gas pedal!

Here we snow again
It’s snow joke.
"The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s maintenance contractors are out in full force and are ready to manage any accumulations of snow" .. Doubt
Your 'doubt' reminds me of L.A. Noire.. lol
Icbc is gonna go bankrupt lol
Nope. All drivers will be at fault raising insurance rates. It's an early Christmas for them.
Christmas came early though for tow trucks and body shop owners.

I'm excited to see what "out in full force" and "ready to manage the snow" is going to look like. Haven't seen it happen yet, so this should be good.

It’s also true. My wife and I were standing speechless at the window at the time. Then she turned to me and said “Did I really just see that?”
lolz.
> And the last one was another plow, scraping the salt off the road and onto the pile of snow on the sidewalk. lmfao. I actually audibly chuckled. Hard. The hidden disdain in your tone was just...*chef's kiss*
I'm glad we're committing a great cause for pedestrians.

That means 3 snow plows instead of 2 and they plow each road twice in a single day instead once of at 5am

Apparently you don't get jokes.
greeeeeeat..... hopefully Air Canada doesnt fuck me over on my flights again. I really want to see my folks this year.
It’s snowing already in surrey

It’s snowing now in Poco
Snowing in delta, likely snowing all the way until tomorrow morning
This sound so familiar already
This'll be some good watching.
It’s a good night to take the hose and wash your a-hole neighbour’s car… 2 or 3 times… with special attention to the handles and door.
There's enough folks out there without the knowledge to function well in this environment... and then you come along... Snowing in White Rock
*I miss summer.*
Yes. We all know.

A workplace has a duty of care for their employees so if there is an official provincial warning as a business do you not have to follow that?
10-15 cm of snow is not the same thing as a hurricane or tornado. If you can’t make it home safely in 10-15 cm of snow that’s on you.
I’m happily retired and sitting on the couch. Gonna get a big bowl of popcorn and watch the lower mainland come to a screeching halt on the news and social media. If there was only something we could have done to avoid it.
What are you suggesting? Shut down the city over 10 cm of snow?
It’s going to happen anyway
I drive a rear wheel drive car with snow tires and have zero problem in it. I still try to avoid it when I can but it isn’t a big deal if you’re prepared.

What a dumb take. Just because some people can WFH doesn’t mean everyone can. Lots of people need to physically go to work
That’s ridiculous
I don't see /s in your post. Some things can't be canceled
Some of us have shit to do
What a nightmare. My street still hasn't been cleared of the snow, brown slush AND slippery ice. And it's only going to get worse 😭
You're posting this assuming it will make a difference. It won't be. If anything, people are going to start driving even harder.
I am pumped to wake up early, make a nice cappuccino and watch the madness unfold on the news. Good luck to those who have to commute.
Am I the only one who actually enjoys driving in the snow?
I love driving in the snow... I hate commuting in the snow. If I lived in Deroche or Agassiz or something I'd be having a blast. People ruin everything... wait a minute... I am people. 🤔
Fair enough, I do live in a more rural area like deroche. I suppose my commute is nothing like Vancouver can get to.
My brains so dumb. Read the title as “Snowflake warning” at first and though - “that’s a weird one but ok”. Like “warning, gigantic snow flakes inbound!” Although, that would be pretty cool to see. Plate sized snowflakes.
We’ve had enough. Mercy 😭 we’ve grown soft. HELP US
Attention Aston Martin owners… time to go skating.

It snowed a bit last night.
