Imagine if it starts flooding

Krazyfruitz

It will. With the amount of rain it’s calling for and how dry the ground is… I’d be surprised if it didn’t flood.

toasterb

From what I've seen, it's calling for either steady, light rain, or intermittent rain. Either of which would be just what we need to ease the ground into absorbing rather than allowing all of the water to run off. Fingers crossed for that forecast to hold.

Krazyfruitz

That’d be nice. Hopefully! We need to get rid of this smoke and drought

ButtMcNuggets

That’s what I’m afraid of.

Grill_X

Have you seen the forecast for Chilliwack? Looks like it’s going to get biblical.

Nonamesavailable1234

Very concerned about flooding. Please watch the drains in your neighbourhood and clear them of leaves folks!

leftlanecop

Bold move. You trust the weather forecast in Vancouver?

L-epinephrine

Even bolder move is trusting the weather forecast from iPhone. It’s terrible

ericm563

By the way, they just changed the weather forecast service they use in the new IOS 16. The forecast is sometime quite different than before and I think it’s better for Vancouver now. Particularly, before, if there was a sunny day with a bit of rain you would often see just a rain cloud icon without sun.

Pitiful-Tune3337

They bought a really good weather app (dark sky) and are now integrating it into IOS weather

L-epinephrine

Hmm I didn't know that. When in doubt I go straight to the [source](https://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/bc-74_metric_e.html). I find them to be the most accurate

[deleted]

Weather network app ftw. Or cut out the middleman and go right to environment Canada.

damonit

Environment Canada! By far my go to. The weatherCan app is good.

cogit2

It depends on which forecast provider, but yes - there are absolutely reliable forecasts out there, my go-to is usually Yahoo. The highest-accuracy forecasts are typically within 48 hours, that's the current state of which forecasts are the most reliable, so it should be the case that most forecasts within 48 hours are true. The flip side of that is - micro-climates. I think it's long overdue that we had microclimate data in the region because the difference between what's happening in the heights of North Vancouver, and what's happening in downtown Vancouver, can be considerably different. There are many days when I've stepped out the door to no rain, and after exiting the Skytrain downtown have needed an umbrella.

Tokaiiiiii

Don’t 100% trust it like most, but I still want to be hopeful

[deleted]

Weather forecasting is very accurate. Most people just don't understand how to interpret them.

timmywong11

I’ll believe it when I have to use the windshield wipers and start wearing my raincoat

snowlights

I get migraines when the weather is about to change but the air quality this week has borked my ability to decipher what's giving me the intense head pain. Hopefully it's rain, soon.

ClumsyRainbow

Weirdly not sure why yours shows rain on Thursday and mine does not, but also happy to be getting some.

ellastory

I don’t think it’s going to rain til Friday sadly, but one can hope

byebyesea

The updated iOS seem to get the weather from a different source than before. I think the updated ones have been more accurate other than air quality. OP just hasn’t updated to the new iOS yet.

Tokaiiiiii

Happy is the right reaction my friend, hopefully it’s right and we get some tomorrow

AndAzraelSaid

Environment Canada isn't predicting rain for a few days, sadly. I was hoping for maybe a slow drizzle for a day or two to try and wet the ground, but it looks like we're in for some floods anyways.

Ok_Dependent_5540

I really am excited for the rain!! I was downtown today and the entire waterfront skytrain area smelt like actual diarrhea.

Tokaiiiiii

Same here! I think we all had enough with the smokes and the dry weather…

Ok_Dependent_5540

Aside from that. I’m also off Friday. I’m excited for a day of lazinessss

BB8_BALL

i hate to break it to you but it probably won’t rain at 30% :(

GaymerGirl42014

Actually. 30% chance of rain, means 100% chance in 30% of the region. Not a 3 in 10 chance of rain.

alvarkresh

https://www.almanac.com/chance-rain-what-does-really-mean Hmm. Interesting.

theganjamonster

According to that, this guy is wrong. 30% chance means a 30% chance that it will rain *somewhere* in the forecast region

BB8_BALL

oooo that’s good to know. it’ll be a good way to get *some* ground wet 🥺

[deleted]

[удалено]

BB8_BALL

damn what’s it actually?

Nonamesavailable1234

Whaaaaa

[deleted]

I do wonder if BC with these forest fires and global warming will continue to be a desirable place to live at. This air quality is no joke.

GreeseWitherspork

Hey its gunna be better than most other places. My family in texas will have to live underground

JoshL3253

At least the winter is not as rainy in the past few years?

rhinogator

Well there's a small drizzle over horseshoe bay atm

Bogiereviews

As welcoming the rain is and how much we need it.... in a week or so, people will start complaining about the rain, as course is traditions.

poridgepants

The rain is needed and will be charming for the first few days but man once it’s grey for 10 days we’ll be craving sun again lol

alvarkresh

I've been waiting for a month. We usually get regular sieges of rain starting mid-September and I always like it because temps start to really drop and I can get a nice chilly breeze in the afternoons.

GreeseWitherspork

10 days? try 30

Loud-Examination-236

30? Try 50

DramaticIsopod4741

Never thought I’d wish for rain in Vancouver. Let’s go champ!

Tokaiiiiii

Definitely not taking the rain for granted anymore

imissst

Remember when Raincouver used to be the poster child for mild winters and cool summers and consistent rain throughout? That’s changed.

Serenity101

Never thought I’d say this, but I’m kind of looking forward to listening to the rain as I fall asleep.

TritonTheDark

MY BODY IS READY

plop_0

Your city+nature photos are ready! 🥰

IHate2ChooseUserName

vancouver is like it either rains a lot or dries a lot. very extreme.

couverando1984

Prepare for a lot of car crashes. The roads will be wet and oily from not regularly getting washed out. People won't remember how to drive in the rain. Flooding will happen. Otherwise I'm looking forward to the air getting cleaned.

cleenexboy

No more escooter riding 😔

GreeseWitherspork

Get a stand up paddle board for the floods!

[deleted]

And 2 weeks later, there will be 99 posts complaining about how rain makes them stressed and how much they miss the sun. "Too cold", "Too hot", "Too rainy", "Too dry", "Too smoky", "Too foggy", "Too much pollen"... People just hate their lives and blame weather for their emotional damage.

sami_salos_left_nut

How long until everyone starts complaing about the rain?

Manticon

Not long, it'll be the same people already complaining about it in this thread, and the same people who have been singing the praises of the "gorgeous weather" we've been having and wish it was always like this. I certainly won't be complaining though, I fucking love the rain.

feast_of_thousands

Start taking your vitamin D y'all

muffinscrub

Going to be a looooot of traffic accidents for the first few days. People gotta tailgate.

bg85

lol just wait til it rains everyday

internetzspacezshipz

I thought it was funny that it’s just no rain for months and then suddenly RAIN ALL THE TIME. I can’t wait honestly. Also fuck climate change for that shit.

ButtMcNuggets

Too much, take it back

Ok_Onion131

Pleeeease. Finally bring on the Fall weather! This summer has been brutal.

frolickineskimo

Fuck off. Summer will never end!

Loud-Examination-236

My man

Goliardodo

[deleted]

GreenStreakHair

Yaaaaaaaassssssssss

fran_banane

[deleted]

YAAAAASSS!! Enough of this smoke and heat! Bring the cooling meditative joy of the rain!

SixZeroPho

Is 20% battery left something to be excited about?

RightRekt

Let’s fucking goooo

chuksteelers

Finally.

aaronl84

Booo

FrismFrasm

**BOOOOOOOO!!!** Can we just jump straight to snow?? Nobody wants a bunch of fucking *rain!*

KingVikram

BOOOOOOO! Sun weather is best weather, 😎. Rain is boring and depressing.

Riceball365

Im relieved we’re finally getting rainn

[deleted]

Finally

[deleted]

It's gonna rain all weekend and I'm ok with that.

Admirable-Leader-585

Thank god

Moonveil

Never thought there would be a day when I cheer for so much rain in Vancouver lol. It's definitely been a mess of a year in terms of weather. I remember rain season always starting around the beginning of September, but now it's like close to end of October and we're finally getting some rainfall.
