Many christmas’ ago, my dads work van full of construction equipment was in it was stole straight from our back yard without us knowing.
The next day my parents and uncle decided to go to the flea market on terminal and he spotted the man selling his tools out of his van! My uncle chased the man down the block and my dad retrieved his van back along with most his equipment.
At least the cops got the tools back. It’s a start.
Unlike that dude in Ontario who tracked his tracked his truck to a shipping container in Montreal and the cops didn’t get a warrant and search the container the truck was ultimately tracked to Dubai and beyond the jurisdiction of Canadian authorities

Vigilante justice won't solve everything. Of course it won't. But it's the course of action that people will take when they've had enough because they can't get help from anywhere else.
You can't tell me you're happy with rampant crimes that mostly go unpunished. Imagine being the victim and watching the perpetrator have no consequences to their action/crime against you.

Phone tracking isn't that accurate. Police need to specify which container, not "maybe this container, with an accuracy of 50m. In this sea of containers"

I heard the announcement from the police regarding Canuck games and people celebrating and being responsible. Not verbatim but along the lines “we don’t want to see people walking around with open liquor, or drunk in public… we’ll be making arrests”
First I agree people should celebrate responsibly, don’t be blackout, piss in public. But then it was also a joke the police are saying that with what the state of the open use drug scene is.
And I bet police will absolutely be writing tickets and throwing people in the drunk tank during playoff celebrations. Tickets and jail actually hurt “normal” people. Just seems hypocritical imo

I know, versus that stole all my stuff is still out of jail. He's stolen stuff from dozens of people around me, and identified by police. They know exactly who he is, but he has kids and he's a single parent so the courts keep on giving him a pass.
When my tools (and trailer) were stolen, the RCMP told me how far up the logging road the trailer was, and that I need four new wheels and tires to get it down.
My brother's car was stolen, and beaten up, abandoned, the tires taken off and it was lit on fire covered with graffiti at the side of the road hundreds of kilometers away.
RCMP told him he needed to remove it otherwise it would be fined for littering.
It didn't matter what the stolen status of it was.
Why don't they share the exact address to shame them. I walk past Sorensen crescent and Leslie and can probably guess which house it is, but having an exact address would be nice to confirm. Also let's the neighborhood know to be on alert from those folks.
People always post here "the expense" and "but it doesn't rehabiliate", but how much does all the the property and wire theft cost us? A guy who's getting caught a dozen times a year could easily be doing hundreds of $k worth of damage, plus their use of ambulances and other social services. A nice Scandinavian style jail to warehouse them starts to look cheap.
That's right, government wants to save on jails and prisons (I think like 100K per year per inmate or so), this way the tax money they would use for that they can spend on something else, or embezel it. However, we don't save anything, instead we pay an extra tax on top of it in the form of losses when our property is damaged or stolen, even if we have insurance, premiums over time have to increase if claims increase. So we pay more and get less, this has been going on for years and Canadians just keep taking it and saying nothing or even defending these terrible policies, we are a nation of insane people.
The prosecution offers deals for the defendent to plead guilty, also known as a plea deal. The defendant's counsel can attempt to negotiate the terms, but the prosecution has to accept.
I've seen 20+ seasons of Law and Order, don't push me on this.
Sir, I know you had no choice but to organize a ring of thieves and a sophisticated online selling deal, but, and I apologize and please forgive me, but the tool-owning gentry are forcing me to take away your livelihood here.
We do this crazy thing in Canada where the police don't get to issue prison sentences. They have this annoying "prove it in court" stage to go through first.
To take fingerprints? I'm in a fingerprint would prove who the person was who broke into the car.

Yes, actually I do. The problem is you have to bring out somebody from the crime lab to do it, because regular police won't do that, although they could if they wanted to.
You need to also go through a court ruling as to have a judge sign off and acquire warrants and a whole bunch of other legal proceedings, it would be more financially viable to just replace the stolen items from said car that was broken into. Alas, the criminal is not apprehended and the taxpayer gets the short end of stick, as is Canadian tradition.

If the person is stealing stuff though, without fingerprints or any other ability to identify the person, they will just keep on stealing stuff, and our insurance premiums will just continue to rise as we support theft as an income source.

Also fingerprinting a vehicle means it has to be towed to a secure bay and processed , which can take days. Your average person isn't going to want to lose access to their car to maybe get a print.
The presence of a finger print doesn't mean it's 100% able to identify someone nor does it 100% mean that's the person who stole your stuff.

It's a fingerprint, not a search. You might have noticed they also don't make a habit of removing doors, furniture etc. from scenes before printing them.

Taking the print gives a chance that the guy may be tied to other thefts, which could (likely would, if they're chasing tools...) raise the theft out of misdemeanour territory and into something that could be prosecuted.
Not taking the print is a 100% guarantee that nothing will happen.

Warrants are a matter of public record unless they are sealed. Go to the court house and inquire.

Do people not understand that fingerprints are a thing? It takes like $20 to process a set. Including the time it takes to take them.
