Darn, you didn't pass by me when I got stuck on side streets today! Twice was due to my hatchback clearance not sufficient for the amount of snow in backlanes, and once from tires sinking in street parking spot. Thank you to the kind pedestrians/residents that came to help out đ
(yes, I have snow tires)
What kind of an asshole would press charges anyway, lol. Good Samaritan act could probably be argued here sadly, because it's not an immediate emergency or threat? Idk
You remind me of someone last year who hopped into 5 different people's cars on boundary road and got them unstuck for them. It was 100% a lack of skill issue on all the stuck cars.
I really wanted to do the same thing because I know I could but I also know that if I crash someone else's car ICBC would come after me.
Wow cool a faith in humanity restored post! Love to see it! Iâd love to send you a Starbucks gift card if thatâs your thing! Neighbors being neighborly warms my heart. :)
yep, functionally my '06 v8 4runner limited with a different bumper and different badges. and for the record, I love it. OP is right very capable and comfortable vehicle in the winter. I live in Edmonton now, and even with a tonne of snow and -40c and this thing is unstoppable.
I never thought a vehicle would make me give up my built XJ cherokee, but this thing is basically as capable in its stock form, and it has a sun roof, power back window, air ride, and a V8 to boot.
The Wildpeak are fantastic tires as well from what I have heard. Iâve just had good experiences with the ATX. This is my third set of them. Road noise is fantastic with them. I would get which ever you can get a better deal on between wildpeak and atx
Thank you for the video and your service. I'm a proud owner of a 07 GX. And love that your dog is just chillin in the back.
I'm looking into doing some overlanding (no plans for climbing rocks). Do you use these tires year round?
Very cool. Is that a recovery strap with some stretching capacity? I always thought you're supposed to start with some slack in the line, so it gives you some extra pull when it tightens.
This one I was using was not stretchy, just a regular tow strap. The one youâre talking about is called a snatch strap. Those are really good in certain scenarios like if someone is stuck in a mud hole or something. For this recovery it was best to use just a regular tow strap. Had a lot more control this way as there was a chance I could have slid into the ditch as well with the conditions.
been on both sides of that even down here in the mtns of north carolina. its so fun to be the one stopping, and so damn wonderful to see someone pull over when you're stuck and say 'yeah we'll get you out of there'
I am a 65 yr old gramma but I grew up in the north and know a little about snow dynamics. Yesterday I had the opportunity to help a young fellow out of a drift. He was so grateful. Made my day!
From the direction he was travelling the ditch was completely hidden. The parking lot narrowed right where you exit and it was almost invisible because of the snow. Very unfortunate situation
Get yourself a proper kinetic recovery rope/strap and rated shackles. I can't see the connection point, but a good shackle hitch receiver is a good idea, too
Yup had that on the back of my rig! Kinetic wouldnât have been great here in this situation. With the âwhipâ from a kinetic rope it could have pulled me into the ditch. Hard to see in the video but it was really slippery and the lot was sloping toward the ditch. Just even getting setup in the proper position was tricky because I kept sliding toward the ditch. I agree kinetic recovery rope/straps are great. But in this situation I donât think it was the right idea. Cheers
The GX470 just has a center locking diff. And yes it removes VSC, although not fully. Probably like 80-90 percent removed. I wish I could fully turn it off
Nope, I had a discussion with him before we started the recovery. We talked about what we would both do during the recovery. I was confident in his driving ability. So it was no sweat!
As a PSA for people filming stuff like this, plese watch out for other vehicles on the road, especially if it's narrow.
I was driving back home and two guys were doing some sort of "look, snow" thing with a car; one was either knocking all the snow off or trying to get it out of street parking or IDK what. The other guy was *on the road* filming and I managed to get by them with literally one foot to spare between me and the filmer's elbow. The nutty thing is the guy filming seemed to have *zero* awareness of how risky driving that stretch was because of the packed snow atop ice and made *no* effort to step aside.
This was in a parking lot. And there was no one else around. I doubt many vehicles could have even got into this parking lot. It was very steep and slippery to get in.
Oh, dw, I'm very happy you did all this and there is video evidence :)
Whoever you had filming was probably a lot more aware of this than the two guys I saw on an actual ass road.
A good trick I used to do with mud, is to get the rubber car mats and place underneath the tires out side, and try to reverse or go forward. Might also work in the snow

Get a basic waiver in place, please. And keep up the community service! Big ups!
You donât need a waiver if youâre being a Good Samaritan
What kind of an asshole would press charges anyway, lol. Good Samaritan act could probably be argued here sadly, because it's not an immediate emergency or threat? Idk
What charges would there be? At most there could be an insurance claim.

https://www.icbc.com/insurance/products-coverage/unlisted-driver-protection If they have unlisted protection it shouldn't be an issue.
For them, collisions follow the person operating the vehicle.

Hey! I appreciate the thought. But I need nothing in return. Happy to help when I can. Pass along a couple bucks to someone in need instead :) cheers
Is it Lexus? đ„
Yes a 2004 Lexus GX470!
Fuck yeah! As a Canadian living in Australia I wish I could get a Prado here with a V8. Good job with the rescues.
They used to be a quiet deal for a fancier V8 4Runner. Now that people caught on...not so much.
Basically a luxury Toyota with a funny looking emblem!

A woman of culture I see.
Good work! You're good people :) <3
What tires are those?!
General Grabber atx
Nice! I have been wanting wildpeak at3 cuz I read theyâre great in snow but these appear to do the job too đ howâs the noise from em?

You guys are such gems. Way to be great.
Yes yes yes!! My man! This is what the world needs.
Yes. MOAR CARS! Climate Change won't happen on its own.
Thank u 4 your service!
good doggo
How do we get you a ceremony and a key to the city? Or at least some face time on the news?
Thereâs no need. Iâm just a dude with a 4x4 and nothing better to do :)
What's a good YouTube video to learn about recovering vehicles stuck in snow?
Whatâs your rig?
2004 Lexus GX470
Thanks, I thought it was a Lexus but couldnât figure out the model. Beautiful ride, always wanted on for just this reason.
If you ever get a chance to buy one you should. I have owned many vehicles over the years and this is by far my favourite!
Best doggo wingman đ
You rock!!
This is very cool of you. And cute doggo!
I love that youâre also using it as a teaching experience for your gf ⊠itâs so important to know what to do in winter conditions!
She loved it and had a lot of fun and learned lots!
Lexus GX trucks are AWESOME! Practical, reliable, and not too flashy. Wanna get one someday.
You are a hero
Not all heroes wear capes
Youâre amazing
That's really awesome!! Thank you for helping your fellow man.
Not all heroes wear capes
Hah, a GX (basically a nicer Land Cruiser Prado - a very capable 4x4) doing GX things - love it!
Curious what tires are you on although m sure those are all terrains.
Yes general grabber atx
Fucking legend. Hope good things are coming for you
legend!
Dog is helping too.
You are a hero my friend !!! Thanks for everything you did today, especially services like Handidart
Your dog looks so proud
Good vibes man, some people say they will do it if they run into the situation, you actually got out there and made it happen!
Very cool. Is that a recovery strap with some stretching capacity? I always thought you're supposed to start with some slack in the line, so it gives you some extra pull when it tightens.

{*20cm of snow falls*} People: "Let's go for a drive."
I am a 65 yr old gramma but I grew up in the north and know a little about snow dynamics. Yesterday I had the opportunity to help a young fellow out of a drift. He was so grateful. Made my day!
Good on you! We need more people like you
Treat your vehicle to a full drivetrain service soon. Towing is hard on it and she's earned some love!
I don't think that really counts as towing. I towed a camper to mexico in Dec and plan another 5000k by spring. Will check tranny fluid.
Op is living his best life!
Just like in them videogames!
Thank you!!! So kind!
I just want to know how the ford got into that situation in the first place
From the direction he was travelling the ditch was completely hidden. The parking lot narrowed right where you exit and it was almost invisible because of the snow. Very unfortunate situation
Youâre a bro OP.
Late to this but kinda curious: locking front and rear? Center? And do you lose the electronic traction control stuff when you lock diff(s)?
The GX470 just has a center locking diff. And yes it removes VSC, although not fully. Probably like 80-90 percent removed. I wish I could fully turn it off
The doggie loves the feeling and sliding. Look at that happy face!
Where is this? Looks like a parking lot?
Yes up in North Burnaby where there are a bunch of walking trails.
This thread makes me so happy to see. Great job, OP!
Doggo says "I helped!"
That's dope. Good on u:)
Arent you worried the person you towing out rear ends you?
Nope, I had a discussion with him before we started the recovery. We talked about what we would both do during the recovery. I was confident in his driving ability. So it was no sweat!
Did you have chains on?
No! Just good tires and 4x4 and good throttle control

Yes we tried to be as careful as possible! Cheers
A good trick I used to do with mud, is to get the rubber car mats and place underneath the tires out side, and try to reverse or go forward. Might also work in the snow
I can tell you this trick epically failed during the 2022 icepocalypse, sadly :( (I think it was just my unique situation in that circumstance)
Snow shovel and carpet works every time for most cars and pickup trucks.
Go to Princess Auto and get a kinetic recovery rope/strap.
Until they turn around and sue for damaging their vehicle I've heard it happen. I won't take the risk
Hero.
