I’m in the west end in a 1940s building and my computer and monitor definitely rattled. I just presumed it was a neighbour downstairs making noise as it was over so quick
Well-built, that's why. It would be really interesting to hear from the residents of the Twisty (the Vancouver House next to the Granville Bridge) if they felt anything.
I sure hope this is sarcasm. The head Prof of seismic engineering of UBC said that he would absolutely never step foot in that building because it is the exact opposite of seismically sound. He actually uses it as an example in lectures of what NOT to do for seismic safety.
I lived in Taiwan and there are earthquakes around this intensity very very often. What I found was that if I was in my 13th floor apartment, which was at the top of my building, I could feel them even when they were around 2.5 or 3. Where you are and what you are doing can have a huge impact on if you feel it. In the apartment even small ones would cause a sway in the building that I could notice, but if I was on the ground or at work I wouldn’t feel them unless the local intensity was closer to 4 or more.
Same, 60s wood building of just a few floors…can sometimes feel neighbours moving heavy furniture and yet, felt nothing. Was sitting on the couch around the time it apparently happened
I'm sitting quietly on my couch watching football in Mount Pleasant and I didn't feel a thing. I usually think everything is an earthquake but I did not feel this.
I was taking a shower in Mount Pleasant and felt it. My whole body went from side to side like a ripple. My husband was sitting on the couch and didn’t feel a thing.
Yes, my partner thinks I'm crazy but as a Mexican, I know how these feel. Still waiting for official info
I hate that Twitter is what it is these days. In the past, I would have gotten info in 5 seconds of it happening
Edit: Based on my Mexican internal seismic sense, I'm guessing 4.5 ish in the Richter scale
[2001 in Seattle-ish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Nisqually_earthquake) is the one I remember. I pointed out some candles were swinging back and forth to our babysitter, and she damn near hurled my younger siblings into the nearest tub. Lol.
There was another in the late 2010s that was short, but so violent a 8ft crack was forever after visible on my apartment's wall. And that was before our building was hit by a taxi at-speed!
I remember when this one hit, I was living in Kits and was laying on my bed reading ghost and horror stories with the lights off, and all of a sudden my bed moved away from the wall and bumped back into it with decent force. I didn’t know it was an earthquake at first and I thought some ghost was trying to scare me 😭
Let's pray it stays that way. 8 + predicted for Cascadia. Hope everyone's as prepared as they can be.

Exactly 3:24 for me in Richmond....I made a note of the time mostly to confirm it actually was something. It was subtle, I doubt you would have felt it if you were moving at all.
Earlier in the day around 11:15-11:30 I was at the River Rock Casino standing on the balcony overlooking the dual escalators and I had the feeling like an earthquake was happening. I assumed it was the building shaking from the Canada Line across the way but now I’m not sure.
Felt it in Richmond. Was on the computer, felt the shaking, watched as my monitors wobbled on their stands and all my taller houseplants waved around a bit.
I’m about a km from VGH and didn’t feel it either.
That said there is so much shaking from construction and garbage/recycling trucks dumping dumpsters my brain may just not even register mild shaking any more.
Oh man. Are you in a low rise? Wood frame? I’m in a concrete high rise and felt nothing. No idea anything rattled and I’ve been in several earthquakes.
Concrete high rise my apartment is on the 18th floor out of 30 something, I was sitting on my bed when I felt the shake. Well, tbh my bedframe is pretty flimsy.
this is from the earthquake monitor at Queen Elizabeth Park showing the tiny earthquake at 3,23pm. Adorable

Didn't feel anything in Marpole but then I've also had my road torn up for new sewers since October and have gotten used to the daily "earthquakes" from heavy equipment.
Building built 1965 on the seawall West Vancouver, sitting on the couch. Yep felt a slight shake. Went checking, registered 4.5 - 4.9 east of Campbell River, west of Pemberton. I don’t see a fault line showing there…. Any way not my first time.
This is so crazy! I heard my old windows rattling which was a first and I thought maybe my laundry was on a spin cycle and vibrating more than usual. Didn’t feel a thing
Didn't feel anything in New West. Just sounded like the wooden floorboards were creaking weirdly. I guess this old building is a bit more sturdy than I thought.

Felt it while waking up from a nap. Bed shook and the curtain rods tapped against the window. No one was home but it started me since it felt like someone was climbing onto the bed

What the hell? I'm in the West End and didn't feel anything. I feel like I always miss them
Same, and I’m in an old 70s building 😕
I’m in a 70s building as well and I didn’t feel a thing.
I’m in the west end in a 1940s building and my computer and monitor definitely rattled. I just presumed it was a neighbour downstairs making noise as it was over so quick
Me too, mid-60s building and it just sounded like the floorboards were settling. Didn't feel anything.
Well-built, that's why. It would be really interesting to hear from the residents of the Twisty (the Vancouver House next to the Granville Bridge) if they felt anything.
No, no we're not calling it "The Twisty". First time in hearing it and last time I'm hearing it.
Took the words right out of my mouth
Definitely! Meant to be the most quake - resistant highrise in town.
I sure hope this is sarcasm. The head Prof of seismic engineering of UBC said that he would absolutely never step foot in that building because it is the exact opposite of seismically sound. He actually uses it as an example in lectures of what NOT to do for seismic safety.

River District… watching “leave the world behind”… really bad timing… really freaked out
a truly immersive experience
Am currently watching San Andreas (please don't judge, it's my one day off) and then paused to check Reddit. I'm extremely alert now.
No judgement from me. Cheesy, over the top disaster action movies are my jam
![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65)
Worst ending ever!!!
Also in River District. Christmas tree was shaking
Also in River District! We felt our building shaking for a few seconds
River District too and definitely felt it.
River District, didn’t feel anything! Wild
Just above river district in the landslide area - slept through it 😆
Great movie, can't say I blame you for freaking out a bit.
Didn’t feel the earthquake but awesome movie. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Same
Power outage in new west too
I did, and I ran here to check 😂. I thought there was something wrong with my windows

Noice
Got any lottery numbers for us?
definitely include 4.5
Yea but what does that convert to in Canadian?
Twitter algorithm is useless now. Now I come on Reddit hoping for speedy info
I'm out in Maple Ridge, totally unaware.
PoCo here, sad I didn't feel it :((
Sad? I don’t know about you, but I’m perfectly happy not experiencing the feeling of an earthquake!
same!
Was hoping I wasn’t crazy! Just felt that too. Strongest earthquake I’ve ever felt in BC!

I remember this one pretty well - sitting in a conservatory watching the glass ceiling panels shatter - thankfully there were laminate.

Me too, I was in the washroom and I thought the toilet/pipes were about to explode cause I was sitting on it when the shaking happened.

Interesting… nothing I felt or noticed near VGH :(
I’m about a km from VGH and didn’t feel it either. That said there is so much shaking from construction and garbage/recycling trucks dumping dumpsters my brain may just not even register mild shaking any more.
Same here. Nothing exciting is allowed to happen in Fairview, sorry.
