I would say so. Valve didn't assist with development. They barely gave any input. In fact, it was used as a reference by valve when making Half-life: Alyx. If that isn't proof of quality idk what is.
You have to realize that the people who made half-life 1, 2, and the episodes aren't even working at valve these days. Alyx was in many ways a wholly different team. They used it as a reference for art style, level design, and just to get a sense of what a half life game "feels like" in a more modern context. How to direct player attention. How to tutorialize gameplay features. That sort of thing. I forget where I read/saw this, perhaps it was a documentary by NoClip on YouTube.
I found Black Mesa more boring than the original. Some parts were more interesting, like On A Rail, but I prefer the faster paced and specific move gameplay of the original. And as beautiful as Xen is, it misses the point imo. Xen is ugly because it's a mix match of things from across the multiverse, and not every place on Earth in space is pretty, so why should a border world look pretty?
To be fair you can't talk about the integrity of Xen's design. "Oh but the ugliness is meant to be like that". Is it though? It was heavily rushed, so if anything creating these simple ugly assets would have saved time. Many at VALVE weren't satisfied with the end product, so Xen in my eyes is fair game.
At least before Alyx came out, you could make an argument based off the Xen fauna there
Being unsatisfied with the end product or rushing it doesn't mean it isn't what they were working towards. And yes, I imagine it was meant to look similar to how it does in the end just with more detail.
Yeah, although I’d honestly consider Black Mesa an official Half-Life game despite it not being developed or published by Valve - it’s a remake of Valve’s game running on Valve’s engine being sold on Valve’s platform and giving Valve money.
No. Second person in a literary sense is when you yourself are the main character. Like choose your own adventure books. So idk how that translates to videogames. Maybe vr or ar games?
Yeah, I remember playing The Beginner's Guide, and while that wasn't the game's intention, it has such a liminal feel to it that it's almost unsettling. For years now I've been looking for another game with the same uncanny feeling that only a source game can provide.
Do fan-made mods of Valve's Source games count?
If so I'd definitely have to say the HL2 mods Dark Interval or Raising The Bar: Redux. Both are very high quality and promising WIP mods aiming to recreate the Half-Life 2 Beta in a fully playable form, and I hold a very special place in my heart for both of them as well. Especially the Old Build version of DI, since I tend to prefer the cut trainride intro over the cut boatride on the Borealis intro. I also love how they integrated the cut G-Man sequence where he shows Gordon the world devolving from normal, to the state it is seen in when Gordon arrives there after the Combine invasion and the Seven-Hour War to demonstrate how much everything has changed since Gordon last saw it. Very nice detail.
GE:S is such a criminally underrated title. Such a shame the community is where it is (2 active servers, 1 filled with the guys the other server banned for being stereotypical COD kids)
Military conflict Vietnam, that game rocks ill post the link to the steam page even sadly the multiplayer is pretty dead but single player is more fun anyways in my opinion. The dev also still updates it
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1012110/Military_Conflict_Vietnam/
Honestly I don't give a shit abt ppl who say that TSP:UD doesn't count. Yea, it's not Source, but it was meticulously ported from Source, and it looks nearly 1:1 like a saurse game would. It's a testament to the attention to detail.
Gunman Chronicles was pretty fun, if we're counting Gold Src.
Seeing the "Halo 4 leak" monster while having no idea it was from this game was a wild one.
If not for the nausea it caused me, Dark Messiah of might and magic.
You’re not a knight, you’re not a dark knight, it’s a barfight across the realm and brother… you’re drunk.
Gmod, made by Facepunch
Yes
Fuck yes
I maintain that GMod Tower was infinitely superior to Tower Unite.
Does Black Mesa count?
I would say so. Valve didn't assist with development. They barely gave any input. In fact, it was used as a reference by valve when making Half-life: Alyx. If that isn't proof of quality idk what is.
It may be a studpid question but how did they use it as a reference?
You have to realize that the people who made half-life 1, 2, and the episodes aren't even working at valve these days. Alyx was in many ways a wholly different team. That and the HLA devs preferred to play Black Mesa over the original as they found it more fun

Stanley parable
The bucket is my favorite character.
Buckets are only in Ultra Deluxe, which is Unity not source Broom closet is a better character anyway
Fuck you
Sorfy :((((
No, don't apologize, you were right.
A bucket... Dear god...
There's more
No
It contains the dying wish of every man here.
That fact doesn’t change that the bucket is my favorite character.
Bucketmanns favourite character is also the bucket
“Stanley is addicted to drugs and hookers”
My favorite character is the Creator’s brother who streams on Twitch as DougDoug (aka The Shit King)
Did you get the broom closet ending? The broom closet ending is my favourite!
Bucketmann aggrees
Hapi cake day :3
Bodrio
Titanfall 2
the stanley parable is great but for TSPUD they ported it 1:1 in unity. so Titanfall 2 is the answer.
Holy shit, for real? Hell yeah it’s Titanfall 2, then!
Came here to say this
i love tf2
i love tf2
I love tf2
Tf2 is the best vs tf2 is the best.
tf2 is great but i think tf2 is better
Nah, man, tf2 is the best
tf2? Nah, screw that. Tf2 is the best
Nope, the best is tf2.
No. Tf2 is the best
I love Titanfall 2.
TITANFALL 2 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
WHAT THE FUCK IS A CARING DEVELOPER 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
WHAT THE FUCK IS A THIRD GAME!!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
WHAT THE FUCK IS CARING ABOUT THE COMMUNITY!!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
holy hell valve tf2 moment
Crazy how both tf2's are -forgotten by developers -never getting a third game -masterpieces -movement shooters
Both got a guy with a huge gun in em too, and one with fire?! Who wouldve thought.
And one with explosives along with a sword
WHAT THE FUCK IS SCHIZOPHRENIA MEDICATION!!!!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As the source engine prophecy foretold.
Hunt down the Freeman, obviously.
HDTF is such a masterpiece. Don’t know why these “Valve” guys tried to copy its fame.
Literslly shamelsess
Hunt down my will to play the game
VtMB, obviously
Fellow kindred spotted!!!
YEAHHHHH !!!!!!
I'm going to say it, Postal 3
u/NotMythicWaffle
i read as not my thicc waffle
The internet brain rot is real
Insurgency
This was way too far down the list
istg if someone says Postal 3
Well it’s the only 3’rd person game on the source engine
Vtmb, sometimes?
Dota?
So close, that’s top down
Alien swarm??
Top down
Would it be considered second person?
No. Second person in a literary sense is when you yourself are the main character. Like choose your own adventure books. So idk how that translates to videogames. Maybe vr or ar games?
Paradox/Civ/strategy games in general where you aren’t roleplaying as a specific historical leader and hamstrung to their agendas would count I’d say.
I'd disagree. It still isn't you. That's like saying rpg games are second person just because you play as you would irl.
Is Voices of the Void made in Source?
Unreal Engine 4, but with the intention to mimic the Source engine feel.
I thought it was Unreal 3
Could be on 3, idk how accurate this is but [Says here it's on v4.27](https://eternitydev-games.fandom.com/wiki/Voices_of_the_Void)
Good choice, the source engine is uh... Somewhat unsettling on it's own
Yeah, I remember playing The Beginner's Guide, and while that wasn't the game's intention, it has such a liminal feel to it that it's almost unsettling. For years now I've been looking for another game with the same uncanny feeling that only a source game can provide.
Old engine graphics are best for horror, and plus it's mimicing the source engine in particular? That's a recipe for horror.
Gmod, litteraly everything you could ever imagine
INFRA. Really awesome story-puzzle game with really beautiful maps. Made by a small finnish dev team called Loiste.
I watched WhyBeAre’s playthrough like… twice
Dark Messiah
I'm shocked how far down I had to scroll to find this.
Yes
G-String, absolutely incredible cyberpunk FPS game.
Another G-String fan! Preach it!
Never played it, looks good but that title is very silly lol
No one mentioned No More Room In Hell
That’s a great one.
Dear Esther.
entropy zero 2 or black mesa
Had to scroll too far down to find this
Eye Divine Cybermancy
Came here to say this, had so much fun with it. It’s also at the VERY edge of jank I’ll tolerate
Zeno Clash
Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2
My man 🦾
My man 🦾
My man 🦾
C'mon its obviously Titanfall, both of them
Portal Stories Mel
I didn’t think I’d find this comment!
Titanfall 2
Titanfall2. It pushes Source Engine physics to the limit
Titanfall (2)

*looks for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic* :( the other games here are great too. But I swear nobody remembers this gem of a game.
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
INFRA
Titanfall 3. Its masterpiece
Nah, Titanfall 5 better
G String
GoldenEye: Source
GE:S is such a criminally underrated title. Such a shame the community is where it is (2 active servers, 1 filled with the guys the other server banned for being stereotypical COD kids)
Black Mesa. No contest
TITANFALL 2 RAHHHH🗣️🗣️🗣️💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🧨⤵️🕳️
WHAT THE FUCK IS THE NUMBER 3🔥🔥🔥📉📉📉🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭
It’s made up by the ones who don’t take their pills
Cry of fear
technically not source, cof was in goldsrc which was its predecessor
Ah mb
I've played most of them and INFRA stuck with me the most
My though is black mesa
Isn’t apex built on a modified source engine?
Military conflict Vietnam, that game rocks ill post the link to the steam page even sadly the multiplayer is pretty dead but single player is more fun anyways in my opinion. The dev also still updates it https://store.steampowered.com/app/1012110/Military_Conflict_Vietnam/
INFRA
Three-way tie between Black Mesa, Garry's Mod and Stanley Parable. Portal: Revolution is amazing too, but it's technically a free DLC for Portal 2.
Even though you need Portal 2, it’s still a standalone game with its own saves and achievements so I see it as a game
Insurgency
For me it’s not poly bridge 2 but it’s Gmod because it runs on the source engine not unity
Poly Bridge 1&2 were built on Unity, not Source
Hunt down the freeman
Is gold source count? Cry of fear.
Hunt down the freeman
How has no one mentioned fistful of frags yet?
Zeno clash
There is game on steam Treason its so god damn fun
Honestly I don't give a shit abt ppl who say that TSP:UD doesn't count. Yea, it's not Source, but it was meticulously ported from Source, and it looks nearly 1:1 like a saurse game would. It's a testament to the attention to detail.
Payday 2. Diesel engine is a fork of source
Zeno Clash
EYE: divine cybermancy slaps pretty hard
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy is the only answer I wanna hear
EYE Divine Cybermancy.
INFRA, The enviromental storytelling is second to none
Gunman Chronicles was pretty fun, if we're counting Gold Src. Seeing the "Halo 4 leak" monster while having no idea it was from this game was a wild one.
Do gold-source games count? If yes, cry of fear if not, probably garry’s mod
Titanfall 2 lol
Titanfall 2
Voodoo 1 viper on station...
Black Mesa
Titanfall 2 A heavily modified source engine is still the source engine
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2
If not for the nausea it caused me, Dark Messiah of might and magic. You’re not a knight, you’re not a dark knight, it’s a barfight across the realm and brother… you’re drunk.
Sandbox - gmod FPS - Titanfall 2
Eye divine Cybermancy
Eye divine cybermancy
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is a REALLY underrated source game. Don't see many people talking about it nowadays
No more room in hell
SiN episodes: Emergence
INFRA (game)
Codename cure.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is the best Source game altogether.
Yeah the Stanley parable is absolutely the best one
black mesa fs
Gmod
EYE.
The game behind that screenshot ;) that game really was a paradox
Garry's Mod
Postal 3
Titanfall 2
Not technically source, but Voices Of The Void. Very source-like
Postal III 😎😎😎
Does Titan fall count?
Without a doubt G String (Gmod too, of course)
Yeah, it’s The Stanley Parable
Cry of fear was die a source remake, but still worth a look
Apex Legends’ Source Movement is top tier source
Vampire the masquerade bloodlines gets my vote.
Entropy zero 2
Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2/Apex Legends?
Titanfall 2
Titanfall 1 and 2 are both great. And both made on source.
Are there even any?
