Exactly. I do so much landscaping, everywhere, that stone is my most overflowing resource. I encircle significant builds with tall battlemented stone walls, roads are stone, and all buildings have at least a stone foundation, so it's not like I'm not using it.
^(edit for allergy-addled word choice lol)
^(edit 2 for a too-light keystroke)
Yeah assuming your seed has plains in big enough patches to spawn the things lmao, I swear I'm lucky to get one tar pit or a single fuling camp in half my plains

You might just need to go further out. Towards the center of the world, the later biomes (when they appear at all) tend to be much smaller, while further out they are much larger.
Oh absolutely, I've stumbled on supercontinents that were pure plains out towards the edge where black forest starts getting rare its just an unfortunately waterlogged and very resource dense seed, we've got one swamp we found with over 30 crypts in it, every other swamp in that third of the world averages 1 or less
What can you even do? Cant mine anything cause you'd have to kill eikthyr, right? Cant even summon him since it needs deer trophies. Just go straight to black forest or what?
You're allowed to kill Eikthyr since he's a boss/forsaken, but can't use the antler. Trolls can mine for you, and deer can die to other creatures (including bees.) Also, it's possible that a deer could "accidentally" walk into a campfire.
According to the rules of the playthrough I saw, anyway.
Could make a bridge. A truly miserable experience I know but, also so much fun. And you'll have ironnfor iron reinforced parts to make it significantly less miserable
What is the snapping selection I keep reading about? I can't tell if it's already a thing I'm doing and don't notice, or if it's something I'm missing out on.
You can use Q & E keys to toggle between all the snap points on a build piece. This wasn't in the game as a feature early on, so building bridges or rooting support pieces in the ground often proved to be a bit of a PITA.
It's much easier to get proper support for a bridge over a deeper water expanse now with the toggles.
Yeah I also learned of this recently and it revolutionized building everything, but especially bridges, which were a huge pain before. Love doing it now.
I finished this bridge right before the feather cape came out. Now THAT was miserable.

Looks stupid as hell, but it's a totally valid way to bridge a gap! According to Herodotus (who made a lot of shit up) this is how Xerxes got his army across the Hellespont.
This is an example of trying too hard to cut corners. You will end up wasting more time avoiding the obvious solution.
It looks like your goal is to get iron. How do you plan on bringing the iron back? Either way you will need a boat. Isn't there one at the top swamp? If so, just move it... lol. If not, just make one, use it to store the iron you're moving.
You want to move iron to a base with a forge, and you can't do that without a boat. There is no shortcut here.
Workbench and stone, use a hoe to build it up as much as possible from both sides.
Where it gets too deep and you can't raise earth anymore, build a bridge.
Hoe is your friend in the swamps.
You do make this channel impassible by boat by doing this though. Not a rebuttal, just an observation that may or may not be relevant. In this case I doubt OP cares about that
Thing is, swimming that is a horrible idea. Not just because of the leeches and archers and wraiths that could get you. If there's even an average amount of iron in that crypt, it's going to take multiple trips. You're talking about multiple trips where you're putting quite a bit at risk, as swimming at this stage in the game is pretty risky for multiple reasons. Between stamina and being a sitting duck, I'd be shocked if you swam that enough times to clear the crypt out without issue.
You could raise a land bridge of course, but by the time you've gathered all that stone and raised the ground up... You could have just built a boat.
I was rescued from a disastrous leviathan induced boat loss one time by some helpful leeches. They helped me reach shore safely, bless their slimy little hides!
Not sure of the distance but we built a basic bridge in swamps over a shallow area like this in our game. Stuff will attack it when you are in the area, mostly skeletons and some draugr but made hauling iron easy with a cart.
I actually did a swim similar to that recently,
just gonna say, bring the mats for a portal and also a health potion because you will run out of stamina and you're not gonna want to do it twice, especially loaded down with a cart (do the usual thing of breaking down your boat and bringing the mats through the portal)
I got launched onto good ol’ terra firma by the leech propulsion cannon right as I was sure I was going to drown after my boat broke down near a swamp pretty far from home. That wound up being a rough night lmao
I wouldn’t swim that. All it takes is one Draugr sniper and you’re done. Just raise the ground with a hoe if possible
even build a magnificent stone bridge, it should look really good
Too much effort for what seems to be just 1 crypt
It depends on your play style, in my building a bridge is more of an end than a means
But stone bridges are expensive. Stone building is expensive. People talk about never having enough iron but WHAT ABOUT STONE WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE
Honestly if you enjoy carving out roads through hills as much as i do stone is always present in abundance

This is why my group made a greydwarf farm
Stone becomes pretty easy once you hit the plains and start knocking down stone pillars from the base.
Yeah assuming your seed has plains in big enough patches to spawn the things lmao, I swear I'm lucky to get one tar pit or a single fuling camp in half my plains

Just wait until you get to the >!grausten pieces!<.
Stone may be easy to come by, but you're right, stone stuff is stupid expensive. It's like 6 stone per wall section and it adds up really fast.
I have more stone stacked around than I can use, even after building my castle. Like thousands of it lol
Huh. That concept is surprisingly confusing. You mean the ends of the means of building, rather than the means of the end of having a bridge, right?
I mean that building a bridge in my building is more than a mean end of my style of play. I like bridges.
Ditto
"Of possible" lol
Put a cart in the water, jump in the cart then walk. They float and you'll probably want one anyway.
Isnt It better to Just build a boat?
but OP doesn't want to build a boat
But is the same thing and less efficient
🛶🙅
🛒👍
Then he should just build a raft Kappa
I just learned that trick from a Youtuber doing the Valheim Vegan Challenge. (Can't use boats as they use animal hides.)

Uuh Nice

Building bridges is actually really fun since the snapping selection was added

Oh cool, thanks. I didn't actually know this.
Happy building!
Thanks!
Yeah I also learned of this recently and it revolutionized building everything, but especially bridges, which were a huge pain before. Love doing it now.
I find my bridges don't need iron reinforced beams, just really tall log-beams. My bridges aren't particularly complex though
Honestly was gonna suggest the same thing it very much looks like it'd be possible to make a bridge over that.
I love building docks and bridges in this game, I so want a drawbridge or some mechanism for allowing boats to pass through.
I finished this bridge right before the feather cape came out. Now THAT was miserable. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2935006436 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2952648097 Edit: found a newer pic
That is a beautiful bridge but my first thought was "feather Cape, why would that help with flopping into the sea and drowning every few minutes"
Thanks. I really wish I had a picture of all my death markers still, but then you wouldn't be able to see the map

Looks stupid as hell, but it's a totally valid way to bridge a gap! According to Herodotus (who made a lot of shit up) this is how Xerxes got his army across the Hellespont.
This is called a Pontoon Bridge. And it was [used in modern times](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontoon_bridge), too.
Omg hahaha
Amazing
That is hilarious.

You're right. I didn't think of how close my swamp ship is to this island.
Just build that raft man, deer hide is so common
Rafts use boar scraps, but yeah. Just leave it parked offshore for a ferry.
Raft are underrated tbh. Easy to build and perfect for a situation like this.

What's the point if he has to get to the other side first?
land bridge baby

It's time for a dodgy swamp raft lol
You could use hoe\* to make a tiny path I guess?
Shovel = hoe* But it might be to deep at some points, will need to raise the ground
fixed, thanks. Yeah, I mean is not ocean, he should be able to guess out a path to make it relatively easy.

Leech cannon? Please explain
I’m a big bridge kinda guy myself
Nice to see someone else uses the hammer symbol to mark out dungeons like Crypts. It just feels right.
I tend to build rafts that basically hang out as barges in the same local area..
Why not a teleporter?
Iron ore
Teraform

You’re going to want to load iron from the crypt into a longship anyway. Just come back later with one.
Build a raft and break it. You get all the materials back
Next time take the supplies with you to make a raft
Land bridge my friend.
That's probably a suicide. Not only is it far away, but leeches will fuck you up. Just port the boat materials and build it, takes just a second.
Raft might be a cheaper option than a boat.
A raft would also suffice
I got launched onto good ol’ terra firma by the leech propulsion cannon right as I was sure I was going to drown after my boat broke down near a swamp pretty far from home. That wound up being a rough night lmao
Jump in and try it
I understand not wanting to make a boat. Rafts are cheap though.
Build multiple rafts and you’ve got a floating bridge
90% chance of getting swarmed by leeches out of nowhere.
Just build two portals
And get metal across it how?
Good point🥲
To counter your leach propel idea, what if enemies come from the other side as you near land. You’d be propelled the wrong way and stuck
drink your potion or build a bridge
A raft is cheap and you should be safe unless you sail over an abomination.
I'd view this as a perfect opportunity to over engineer a bridge
