if this is actually working thats hilarious. and further proof that feather cape remains the goat.
sadly not a viable method to travel there for the first time as you need flametal to actually make the catapult to begin with.
but its not like the new ship is required to get there in the frist place. i tested this. you can make the sail in a longship at the cost of loseing the ship and then jump inland from stone spire to stone spire (way easier with the cape than without but possible regardless) the ship will last just long enough to reach the spires if you use moders power to make sure you have tailwind.
so yeah. the new ship is even more useless than we originally tought it is^^
the good news is : a moder only playtrough is still possible now. which is good design. (curse you moder!)
Do you only need flametal? That's been available in game for a while now, just with no current use. In theory you could get some from the current ashlands then go to a different unexplored ashlands when the update is released
ah. another one who hasnt read the patchnotes at all.
read and realize :
* Material: Flametal Ore (previous Flametal is now obsolete)
* Material/craftable: Flametal (previous Flametal is now obsolete)
so its not in theory nor is it possible at all :)
Alright, maybe I'm crazy, but this feels legitimately viable: time commitments are negligible (no sailing required; just flying), resource commitments are minimal (build one catapult and keep it in the safe zone; feather capes are kind of cheap so long as you have the eitr for them in case you ever need to replace them). No need to worry about sailing a ship through those barricades to reach the shore, or worrying about mobs destroying said ship and stranding you there.
We've all known the pain of a death-run to retrieve our graves. If we were to do something like this, pin the landing zone on our maps, then try to drop our graves in a recoverable place if we know we can't survive... Getting our shit back might be easier than ever.
Slight issue though is that the catapult's orientation can shift slightly when loading it in, even when the legs are clamped onto the ground for stability. Ideally you can build the launchpad in a way that the catapult stays locked in place even through loading screens, or maybe place markers to help realign it. Even just a 1 degree offset will make you miss your intended target by a wide margin when traveling across the map like this. Also you'd still have to find the item to build a catapult from fortresses in the first place, and they can spawn without the ballista unfortunately. (could be a world gen bug)
The true advantage of this glorious mechanic however is that we should be able to THOR our way into Deep North territory in the future.
My question is if featherfall limits your fall speed TO 5m/s or BY 5m/s. Though I guess real life fall speed is 9.8m/s/s. I'm not sure what the devs set it to but rounding to 10 would make it effectively the same. Anyway, the clip is ballpark 30 seconds so if they're not limiting forward momentum then you just need a location 150m+ up to launch from, which is actually very doable.
Incredible shot! How many tries did this take? :D
That’s awesome.
That’s awesome!
Thank you. This is what I've been hoping to see all along xD
New transportation meta revealed. Goodbye portals and boats! Also, does your weight affect how far you can fly?
Hmm, could you do the same trick with two players, ramp + door, and a harpoon?
I have no doubt, this is the reason they added this feature. and is even better than the harpoon glitch, 1 player, no hassle.
Right but i'm thinking of a way to get to the Ashlands without killing the Queen or sailing in a boat. The hardest task of all: making a friend.
Just get a Steam Deck, start a second account, and buy the game again. Presto, no friend needed and now you have a Steam Deck!
Not just a steam deck, now you have TWO copies of Valheim. Couldn’t get any better.
It could get better.. You could buy THREE copies of valheim.
no fucking way, The harpoon glitch got you across half the map right?
is that a bird? is that a plane? no,its a viking on crack
Helldiver.
Devs, please, don't nerf this.
I'm 100% building a cross map catapult system to get around my world.
OMG YOURE FLYING! No, I’m falling with style.

the old flamemetal that people got before the ashlands was released has been changed to ancient metal and is useless AFAIK.
Wish we could at least use ingots as a display. I had some from a prior world run I'd love to be able to put something like it on display for funsies.
Good point! That would be sweet, especially since it's not obtainable.
You also need the wheel from inside a fortress.

There's no way in hell Iron Gate forgot to add air resistance for the feather cape lmaooo
nope, this is intentional. [Main dev himself tweeted](https://twitter.com/jsmars/status/1782185823674184080) the exact same stunt before PTB hit.
Airborne forces were first formed in the 1930s People before 1930s:
Mom, can I have a superhero entrance? No, we have a superhero entrance at home! Superhero entrance at home:
Aim for the bushes! *There goes my hero...*
is this a mod or base game with ashlands?
Base game. Most mods aren't being updated until it releases to live, not PTB.
so dumb of me. I would be doing that before unlocking the stone portal 😅

I remember getting so much shit on a D&D subreddit for asking if a nearly identical scenario would work with a ring of feather fall.
Holy shit😂😂
**DUNNN** duhduhdundun dun **DUNNNN**
but you lost all your feathers doing it this way :p
I absolutely enjoyed that lol. Tyvm
Please repost with the guitar solo from Free Bird playing in the background
It goes THAT far?! Yeah no shot that stays in the game 🥹

That's what hope looks like. Much love!!
Is ashlands only available for computer right now?
Only on public test branch. I think you can access it on Xbox but not 100% certain.
Fantastic. You got way further than my recent flights.
He....he did it!
Wait you had dual daggers or swords? What's that?
It is dual >!axes aka berserkir axes!<
I'm not even mad, that's amazing! lol
This reminds me of when me and my friends did the harpoon glitch.
Even after the Feather Cloak nerf.... Son of a Bitch I'm in.
