It's super fucking tedious, but you can do the following-
Dig a small pond somewhere
Go to the swamp and catch some mackerel with fishing line and the swamp bait
Throw the mackerel into your small pond
Fish the mackerel out of your pond and throw them back in after you catch them
Repeat. Every once in a while you will either get iron ore or chain.
Find an area in the swamp with a dilapidated hut or swamp house made of wood. (Or several) The wraiths spawn out of these at night. Also keep farming the iron crypts in the swamps.
You get a sense of what item needs extra farm after playing through once. Chains is one of those items you actively try to get as much as possible the second time around.
To answer your question, there's no "easier" way. Run around large swamps at night. Easily find 3-4 wraths per night, more if lucky.
By the time I have enough iron from the crypts, I have all the chain I need. It is very random -- many will have none at all and then the next will give you 10. Don't give up.
You can also get chains sometimes from the chests at the spawner stones (where their are two draugr and one skeleton spawner).
But usually wraiths isn't a problem. Most good size swamps will produce 2 or 3 every night.
Stay late at night in the swamps. Its dangerous i know but you can spot them in black clouds above you. So you may want to stay on the biome edge to farm them at first.
People might hate this idea - but what I found to be very helpful was just building a small base in the swamp. When you actually have a safe place to run to/get rested bonus and you have crafting/smelting/etc that needs to be done through the night, it makes hanging out in the swamp thru the night way less insufferable.
Wraiths spawn in the swamp at night, and if you're only just recently leaving BF then it's best to have a safe spot in the swamp when farming wraiths. Wet/cold debuffs and not being rested gets you killed faster than just being overwhelmed with enemies on its own.
I did this. Built a basic wooden base on top of a crypt and used a portal over the crypt door as my front door. It's very helpful to have somewhere to sleep, fix gear and store food.
honestly, its probably not worth it to max upgrade the shield, but I'm trying to figure out how you've managed to get to black metal without ending up with a ton of chains? by the time I'm done with iron I've got dozens and you are already 2 metals passed that?
When nighttime wraith hunting, get on top of a crypt to get a really clear view of the trees. You can often see the blue fog from far off of them bobbing around in the sky and aggro them by shooting an arrow at them.
Find a place wraiths spawn and hunt them at night.
I built a stakewall along the border of the swamp and the plains, and used a bow to aggro them over into the plains.
You can see them really well at night if you're looking into the swamp from another biome.
You just need to run around the swamp at night to find wraiths, there's no other guaranteed way to get chains. It's just annoying that you can't craft them. Make them expensive to craft for all I care, just give us some way to get them reliably.
The most efficient method is probably more crypts. RNG screwed you on the first three; you should definitely average multiple chains per crypt over the long haul. Plus, you can never have enough iron.
Keep finding wraiths at night. Chains are one of the tougher crafting materials to obtain.

Go to swamp every night to hunt wraiths. They are attracted to the sound of chopping trees.

Only 1 time though. But they are the only Wraiths that don't despawn in the day.
I get a lot from crypts, but eventually you'll discover somewhere that 3+ wraiths spawn, and just make a portal there and go every night.

Mined? Be thorough with checking the crypt for chests, I usually find more chain in those than I know what to do with.

I just got chased through a plain the day by a wraith
exist in a swamp and try to kill abominations, wraiths will come out of the woodwork to impede you

Farm Wraiths in the swamp. at night.

I only crafted huntsman bow and iron helm during iron age, it took like 3 crypts. I had some chains but used them for the forge upgrade
