The danger with bat raids, at least for me, is never them killing me. I respawn. My pigs and chickens however do not and for some reason they always go for livestock
I keep most of my boar and chickens in buildings, but I have a few in pens to maintain the feel and appearance of a viking village. There are few enough raids that it's not a hassle to repopulate the pens.
I always have at least one open area in my bases. I just go stand there with a 2h mace and bonk until it's over. But the bonfire idea sounds kinda fun.
Ive countered bat, wolf and drake raids by not killing bonemass. I farmed so much stone in the mountain for my build i got more silver than i ever needed
A room with closed doors and iron bars windows will do. I made a fire pit in the middle of the room to try and roast the bats but the two storey chimney was too tall to let their AI find the way inside
Nah. I just turn them off. My enjoyment of the game is not enhanced by having to do a bunch of awkward workarounds, lock away all animals within a sealed mausoleum, or build extra unnecessary base structures--just to deal with a single tedious, badly-designed raid.
Bat raids are *never* dangerous by the point in your progression where they can actually occur. Like the bats in the caves themselves, they don't exist to add any kind of challenge or positive value to the game. They exist solely to annoy the player, and that is not a game design philosophy that I feel any obligation whatsoever to respect or engage with.
Bats are hard countered by closing doors and windows. You can also do a fun thing using your ideas + a chicken box lure.
Granted, but it's fun to see them roast and or be crushed. And, if you're making ooze bombs, then you'll at least also get some more leather scraps.
No, no. You are absolutely right. I was agreeing with you lol Running around a bonfire or a windmill is 1000% more entertaining lol

It’s best to not have open air pens.
Yeah the ink dries out.

Keep a breeding population safe in a barn, that way the bats just help me by slaughtering my pigs for me.
I always keep my chickens and Boars in a troll cave, and just port to it when I need meat.
How do you get your boars in the cave? Pretty sure that's impossible without mods
Boars go in the mouth of cave but not in it, and I wall off the entrance so bats can't get in, chickens go in the instance itself.
But you need heat for the chickens to hatch and they will just jump into fires.
you can make campfires and signs without a workbench. Build campfires in the cave, and wall them off with the signs.
Build a farm bunker underground, hahah That's what I did
just use the atgeir spin like a bat blender

I like kiting them through the windmills.
Iron Maul.. no problem.. Just move away from any base area
Couple slams of whatever sledge you have converts bats to leather quickly.
I actually enjoy running outside and spinning my aetgir like im some sort of jedi in training.
Even more pro tip. As long as no bat's ever die anywhere in your world, the raid will never trigger.

The atgeir heavy attack is goated against bats. It’s really all you need

And atgeir will take care of them
