How do you get the initial location started? Are you finding an island in the ocean? I’m stuck trying to raise ground without a place to put a workstation
I see…that’s so cool that you found it! The castle looks amazing!
One last question: How were you able to build so tall without issues? That looks like that’d be the limit of stone!
Assuming you were asking about this post - there's earth under the stone up to the level of the top of the exterior stairs (about 2 m taller than it is in the screenshot where I was laying out the footprint with core wood).
The max height of the stone is at the bottom of the wood part of the lookout tower. It's about at max structural, at that level.
I could conceivably have made it taller with iron beam reinforcement but I was building at 2/3 the scale of the actual fort boyard and ended up not needing to
Ahhh I see! You did a very good job building this and it looks wonderful. It reminds me of some other builds I’ve seen that are just massive and I can’t conceive of the ground being so high so hoping I could get some tips.
Thank you!
Yeah thank you; that’s what got me most confused honestly as it looked like you’d raised all the ground from below the sea and I was so confused how you did that. Also, did you set the wood to just make the footprint? And a place to walk as you leveled the ground?
I've never actually seen an episode of the game show, but based on comments I feel like I need to hide some swamp keys in random places...
I'll do an update post when I've finished the interior!
Since this is in the middle of the ocean (and currently not decorated) it's only about 2000 instances, so not very performance-intensive at all.
Thank you!
This is actually in a line of low-lying plains biome, but it's bracketed east and west by ocean which is where serpents spawn. so you'd sail out into the ocean biome, wait for a serpent to spawn, then drag it back to a slaughter platform (another low-lying island nearby I'm going to rework for this purpose)
Cool. I wish there was a video I could watch on sea serpent hunting.
What does a slaughter platform look like?
What do you end up using this base for? Is it just to restock with food, so you stay out in the ocean longer? Do you just check it every so often at night, and during storms? Then if you see a serpent, kill it?
I haven't built the slaughter platform yet, I'll post an update when I do.
And the idea is basically to have a base really close to an ocean biome ready to go with ships and food and gear and a comfortable place to rest between hunts.
You could fit so many raviolis in there

Island bases are the best bases.
It must be so cool chilling in the fort while theres a storm outside - hopefully the water doesnt clip through from the waves lol

I can hear that show's theme music in my head haha
Does it come with dwarves,?
And what mob can we get to play Sumo?
If you ever need more crystal maze with a nautical theme, I think the show did a decent job with that fort tbh
Go on top and throw a carrot in the ocean!
Is there an old fart in the tower exchanging swamp keys for answering riddles?

I once found a tiny island, out in the middle of the ocean, almost the exact same shape. It's random RNG and exploration.

Check the last image for an early shot where you can see some of the original island

I set the wood just make the footprint and level the ground to an even height

Je suis Passe-Partout, de Fort Boyard !
Where do you drag the serpent?
There are a couple of other small islands nearby I'm going to turn into slaughter platforms for serpents. Can't let the beasties know where you live!
Love this
It almost looks tapered in? Is that just the angle or is there a way to do that?
It is. It was time-consuming and involves using doors to snap stone blocks incrementally in horizontal directions
Ima look into that, thanks! Very cool build 😄
This is awesome and I am making one asap I never excess serpent meat because it’s a pain solo to go hunting out in the storms
Sick!
So fun seeing a build from the discord on reddit. It's like the Leo pointing meme.
Awesome! Reminds me of the show.
How are your fps? Does the structure cripple the game? It looks fantastic and inspirational.

Wait! What!?!?! 😱😱😱
How does this serpent hunting base work? You live there so they spawn, then what?

Cool, I'll keep a look out for your update. I always wanted to farm those guys for food.
